Castiel came off the belt with a crack in his chassis. But when he came to earth, he learned that not all things broken are devoid of beauty. And when he turned away from heaven, he started his journey anew. Broken cogs spoke to him on a deeper level and from that one time on earth where his vessel wore a pretty dress, he's loved hats and waistcoats. So he made himself both and adorned them with all the broken pieces he could find.
