“…Zero…” Alia sighed. Why did he have to be so stubborn?

“You’re not doing anyone a favor by doing this, nor are you proving anything with it. Please…” She placed her hand gently on his shoulder, he eyes pleading, “I’m worried about you. At least do it as a favor for me.”

 Glimmering eyes looked away from her’s, innards beginning to slip deeper down into the pits of the abyssal body of scars and messy repairs (most done all by himself, fear stricken hands pulling and tearing at wires, he retched at the sight of his innards now). ‘I’m doing the world a favor so that they won’t test me and use me as a lab rat,’ the words slipped out faster than he could think. It bounced off the walls, rolled across the earth, and howled at the moon. His anger and fear was practically palpable. ‘I can fix myself up just fine.’ The aches in his body began to roar with pain.

A quick glance across the street tells it all. The police headquarters? The grin of his disappeared almost immediately. It’s really that close? He really thought he was further away than that, but….

“That was on purpose!” An obvious bluff. “Duh! Why would I even bother writing something if I didn’t want anyone to see it?!”

 A smug look would have soon plastered itself upon his face if he hadn’t swallowed seeing the child taken aback by his comment. Lips settled as a small grin, obviously in humor of the child’s misfortune. 

 ‘Right, of course--- how STUPID of me to assume you didn’t want to get caught.’ There was a slight shift of his posture, limbs becoming just a little less tense. ‘At least you made our little walk to the station lots shorter.’

“You know, you have to come to terms with it eventually, Zero.” The navigator sighed. His attitude was starting to make her doubt whether he was actually an adult, age regardless, ”I scheduled more checkups for your own good, so please make it easier for all of us and go.”

 ‘I don’t need more checkups, I’m fine.’ He lies, sometimes his joints ache, rust forms, the pulse in his cores fade. There were times where he laid charging and he felt his life slip through his fingers-- almost like he was slowly killing himself from neglect. He liked to believe, at least for the moment, that nothing was wrong with him.  ‘I don’t need any doctor.’

"Beep berp."

 The thing looked like it had just jumped out of a video game, manifested from an age’s past. He craned his head, shuffling from one end to the other as if trying to look at the thing from behind to no avail. ‘What… is this?’ There was a single digit that began to almost prod the thing that beeped at him.

 There’s an undignified scoff as arms cross almost childishly. ‘I’m not old,’ and he states this as fact when the not-quite-Reploid knew for a fact that he was possibly older than X. What made her comment worse was that Zero most definitely felt old, but one would possibly feel old from having died so many times and haphazardly place each body part together in a barren wasteland (but he wasn’t going to admit nor say that). ‘I’m still young.’

 ‘I’m not much of a card player but,’ his eyes do a once over of the motorcycle, ‘don’t you think that’s a little too much?’ The set up looked almost too serious to be taken seriously, and the legitimate thought of card games on motorcycles almost sent him into a fit. One could almost hear it in his voice--- almost.

“Shit!” 

He curses under his breath as he tosses the paint can away. How the hell did the police get here so quickly? Had they really gotten better over the years, or has he just gotten worse? He bites his lip. It’s obviously much too late to pretend he hadn’t done this, but why would he want to pretend anyway? 

“As if I’d just let you do that.” The boy scoffs; smirking as he turns to face the supposed officer. “Subtle’s no good. Idiots like you don’t get subtle.”

 There was a roll of his eyes, typical that the other would say that. A thought came across to humor the kid and give him a three-second head start, but of course he couldn’t do that. Folded arms turn to a hand on his hip and a slight lean. ‘Right,’ he says absentmindedly. ‘and kids like you don’t get OBVIOUS.’ It was then that he points across the street, somewhat diagonally to a nice little building they liked to call “the gay baby jail” “a Maverick Hunter outpost”. 

 ‘Nice try kid, but you got a long way to go.’

The voice sounds like death, to one a normal person it might have been an angel singing; yet he who had danced with the thick black robes of smog retched at the sound. The touch, however soft it might have been, his soul recoiled from-- acid felt like it was pouring all around him, he was becoming blind.

He stood, tempted to shove the other away from the Reploid’s weak form. Mind shook from the ashes of the past and so he began to speak. ‘Where am I?’
