In all seriousness, this is a HUGE service to everyone in the LA area and a fantastically tangible way to help. Rebuilding is going to be a long, arduous task and people are already looking to take advantage in any way they can.

I have nothing but bad news for y'all
We were supposed to have until April to leave comments, but the cdc has officially ended the 5 day isolation period as of today, March 1st, 2024.
They're saying as long as it's been 24hrs and your symptoms are improving, you're good.
Nothing about covid has changed. Medical professionals are obviously slamming this decision. All this does is make it even more difficult to avoid long covid, because now workers will have to fight for sick days and time off they already barely have just to fucking heal from an organ damaging virus.
Idk what to say for this one.
this is a nightmarish, indefensible abdication of responsibility to a nation the CDC has already comprehensively failed. im not surprised but i am incredibly fucking disappointed.
Given the CDC's complete lack of regard and care for ME/CFS -- a condition known in many cases to be brought on by viral infections and which is almost entirely indistinguishable from long-Covid -- and the massively harmful treatment guidelines that they have pushed for DECADES with regards to ME/CFS, I am not surprised that they are condemning more and more people to a lifetime of disability, medical neglect and gaslighting.
And yet, some small part of me still had hope that they might listen this time.
This isn't negligence anymore. It hasn't been for a while. This is violence.
Not knowing that you have a villain inside you, a hero, and a bystander is a lesson that everyone should learn.
What is the quote from Jingo, by Sir Terry Pratchett, to the effect of "when someone does something terrible, we want it to be one of Them, because if it isn't Them, then it is Us?"
“It was because he wanted there to be conspirators. It was much better to imagine men in some smoky room somewhere, made mad and cynical by privilege and power, plotting over the brandy. You had to cling to this sort of image, because if you didn’t then you might have to face the fact that bad things happened because ordinary people, the kind who brushed the dog and told their children bedtime stories, were capable of then going out and doing horrible things to other ordinary people. It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do the bad things.”
Jingo. 1997. Pratchett, Terry. NY, London, and Ankh-Morpork: Harper-Collins. p. 205

Happy Midsummer!
I’m sure this will hit the news soon but just in case it’s not out yet — the Governor of Maryland just signed an executive order tonight declaring Maryland a sanctuary state for trans people seeking gender-affirming care, and for all people who provide such care or help trans people access such care. This executive order includes an explicit refusal to cooperate with law enforcement/prosecutors in any other state where accessing, providing, or helping people access such care is now or will soon be criminalized.
Yes it is absolutely a privilege to be able to travel or to think about moving but if someone can access the resources to move or visit to get what they need to survive and be less likely to be actively targeted for LITERAL EUGENICS AND GENOCIDE, then they should and we should support them.
Please spread the word.

Marlene Dietrich is detained at a train station in Paris in 1933 for violating the ban on women wearing trousers.
As with all german actors in the 30's, you always gotta check the World War II section of their Wikipedia page. Well im happy to report that Marlene Dietrich was in open opposition to the Nazi regime, and in 1937 donated her entire salary for a film (over 9 million dollars in todays money) to helping Jewish refugees :)
actually i experience “body horror” every day. because. um. i have one
Progress photos for the applique quilt im working on. Im almost positive I've chosen the second worst assembly strategy possible. Right now the whole thing is just incredibly pointy and takes up my entire floor. Technique is -3 out of 10, dont recommended if you enjoy having floor space and not worrying about getting pins in the bottom of your foot
I disagree that periods *aren't* gross, but they're also no more gross than other bodily fluids and waste like urine, feces and vomit. Sometimes life is gross and that's nothing to be ashamed of. If you treat periods any differently from the above then that's a problem and a double standard.
some people have responded to this saying "period blood is as sanitary as venous blood" which, yes is true, but you still wouldn't want to sit in it on the bus or something, ESPECIALLY since blood-borne illnesses could still be transferred this way. Also, same with urine, while it is "sterile" inside of your body, the openings of your body are not! Once it leaves your body it has already been contaminated by the germs and bacteria around your genitals. The whole point is that, bodies are kinda gross, and that's ok. Having an accident or a bleed-through happens and it's nothing to be ashamed of, but it also isn't a pleasant experience for anyone involved and thats! okay!
The moment period blood becomes this "sacred, holy substance", that's when you get into misogynist, new-age trad bullshit that's usually also ableist and transphobic.
Period blood is just blood. If someone next to you on the subway started bleeding, sure, you might get squeamish, but you'd want to help them right? Same with a bleed-through.
It's okay to be concerned about the hygiene of period blood, because after all, it's bodily fluids. It's just not okay to treat people who menstruate like they're dirty or shameful. You wouldn't treat someone with a nosebleed like that, right?
Just....stop treating period blood like it's different, whether it's treating it like it's shameful or sacred. Both stigmatize menstruation and lead to harm.
