“ I’LL STAY WITH YOU ” PROMPTS. / regardless of the fact that newt is scared of hurting his friends after turning , he’s almost more scared of dying alone. becoming a crank on his own has basically been what he’s been doing this whole time , but his personal fight with it couldn’t be hidden forever. he’s got the infection swirling through every vein in his body. black - tinted ones seem to become more prominent with time , showcased specifically on his neck and arms. the poor boy’s been rotting from the inside out for a long , long time. HE DESERVES TO BE AT PEACE , DOESN’T HE ? maybe that’s why he doesn’t stop the knife from being shoved into his chest. instead , features soften almost instantly , and a smile can even be made out through ebony liquid - stained lips and deteriorating skin. hitting the ground never felt like more of a relief to him.
❛ stiles. ❜ a name barely choked out , eyebrows furrowing just momentarily as the crank inside of him shines through once again. a snarl uprises , a demonic and low growl building in the back of his throat. THE INFECTION WAS NOT READY TO DIE. then , all traces of anger are replaced with sad eyes , body soon being cradled in the other’s arms as newt just tries to think of the right words to say. what does a dying boy say to someone ? he’s never been great with words. ❛ you gotta ... ❜ breathing began to hurt , became a chore. chest rose and fell at alarmingly unsettling rates , pain making an appearance in closed lips and winces. ❛ take care of yourself , mate. ––– and ... them. take care of everyone else , too. please. ❜ he will not cry. TEARS ARE FOR TRAGEDIES. newt’s story is not a tragedy , but an inevitability. he would never wish it upon anyone else , and part of him is glad they chose him to be the non - immune one. it meant nobody else had to suffer like he did. it’s not long before everything fails and body falls limp. lips part only slightly , but eyes remain almost wide open. THEY SEEM MORE AT REST THAN BEFORE. maybe because his war has finally come to a end. and , his last breath is taken. chest doesn’t rise and fall anymore. and , newt is finally at peace again.

EBONY DRIPPED FROM THE CORNERS OF HIS MOUTH and for a split second he fought against the rational voice inside his mind to just IGNORE IT. the blonde haired boy would’ve wanted him to shrug it off, disliking the attention that this illness caused him to have but this was THOMAS. he went against all rational – especially for newt. ‘ HERE – here, ‘ urgent hands shoved the torn piece of fabric stuffed inside his pant pocket at the boy, soft whiskey eyes assuring him that he meant NO HARM by the gesture. it was only the two of them for now, he didn’t have to HIDE this from him. ‘ please… JUST TAKE IT. ‘

back rests easily against the wall of the tunnel , mind racing with about sixty different thoughts as newt somehow seems to fall from reality for a split second. fingernails curl into black - veined skin hidden by his jacket , evidence of the flare inevitably irritating him in the slightest. HE’S SO OUT OF IT. he doesn’t even notice the black liquid staining his lips until thomas is handing him something to wipe it off with. ❛ ––– yeah , good call. ❜ there’s something bitter about his tone , but newt isn’t sure why that’s the reaction given when reaching for the fabric. soon enough , the liquid is gone , no trace of it left behind as the crank - infected boy avoids meeting tommy’s gaze. ❛ wouldn’t want gally knowin’ about it , huh ? might end up like chuck. ❜ fabric is dropped , scowl evident as newt just shakes his head. ––– please , don’t be fooled. that’s not him. the bitterness , the spite ... that’s the crank speaking. but , it’s not long before features soften , regret boiling in his blood as newt lets his jaw fall slack momentarily. ❛ i’m sorry. i didn’t mean that. ❜

IT WASN’T TOO LATE. they’d gotten to him in time , but newt still doesn’t trust himself. he sometimes still gets the feeling that he’s turning , feeling the inner crank crawling back to the surface every now and again. DEAR BOY , PLEASE ACCEPT YOUR HUMANITY. the lack of belief that he’s been cured completely is what makes newt begin to distance himself from the rest , almost afraid the infection may resurface and spread. he fails to hear someone approach at first , not bothering to turn and see who’s treading the sand to be by his side. it’s a muffled sentence that snaps him back into reality , head turning slowly as the boy glances up their way. ❛ you say something , mate ? wasn’t paying attention , sorry. ❜
