From 1995, a couple of ads from the health and beauty aisle.
- Full-size scans -
“...you basically have to race around various tracks and win.” - Bytes, a column that really had its finger on the pulse of mid 90′s gaming. Also, don’t worry about the 3DO; it’s going to be just fine.
The Den Magazine - December 1995, Pages 8-9
The wait is finally over!
*crickets*
The Den Magazine Issue 9 in it’s entirety Yeah! Woo! Get hyped.

In this issue: All the hot scoops about Nightmare Before Christmas and Nintendo's replacement for Super Mario Kart (???); searing festive insights from Ant & Dec; the gripping conclusion of The Work's A-Z of the Human Body; an even less cool environmentally-themed super hero than Captain Planet; a crossword that I'm pretty sure is unfinishable, despite this issue carrying the lamest apology for last months's one also being unfinishable; and, for those looking to chill out at Christmas, boy, does this magazine have the Bon Jovi and East 17 VHS tapes for you! Please enjoy.
Searching for that perfect look for the holiday season? While also being trapped in 1994, and a child? Boy, have I got you covered!
I love how defiantly one of the kids must have protested the outfit he had chosen for him for it to get mentioned twice. Rory Murphy: truly the hero The Den Magazine needed.
Also, what’s with the quotation marks around The Prodigy but nothing else? *air quotes* Dance music? Whatever, kid. Now Boyzone: there’s real talent for you.

It’s only by scanning in these old magazines that I’ve been reminded of the travesty that Bird’s Double Thick Milkshake Mix is no longer a product. I never had the chocolate one much, but hot damn, the strawberry was freakin’ delicious, genuinely thick, AND you got to use a plastic shaker to mix it up like a cocktail. This was highly exciting stuff for an eleven-year-old fat kid. :D
Tragically, I don’t think this was actually available for very long though, maybe just a year or so, but it certainly left an impression - so much so that I’ve been desperately craving some ever since I laid eyes on this.
I wonder if thin Angel Delight would would do the trick. I’m guessing that’s pretty much what this was anyway...... Don’t judge me!
Den Magazine Issue 9 - December 1994, Page 25
“What’s cool for Christmas?” Well, certainly nothing going on on this page.
Here’s a 1995 ad for Bootleg shoes - a shoe brand I can’t say I remember, but maybe I’m just not “street cred“ enough.
Den Magazine Issue 17 - December 1995, Page 22
Dad jokes! You know, for kids!
Den Magazine Issue 9 - December 1994, Page 35
An RTÉ promo for a airing of the original Planet of the Apes as part of their Last Picture Show slot. As far I know, that was a film critic introducing classic movies late at night. I don’t think I was ever even allowed to stay up for it. :D
An ad for the Krups 3 Mix from the 90′s. An even older model of which we had for years when I was a kid. Pretty sure it even made it a few years into the 00′s.
The Man from Del Monte chooses only the most EXTREME of 90's camera angles.
The great Den Magazine digitization continues. So, who want’s to win a fantastic CD-I system?..... Anyone?
Squadala!

So, my quest to scan all the copies The Den Magazine I have is proceeding pretty slowly (much like everything else on this blog lately :D), but for the time of year that’s in it, how about a little 4 page teaser from the December 1994 issue? What are Boyzone’s holiday plans? What’s the deal with Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas? Does Dec like all the stuff on TV at Christmas? All will be revealed, and more!
Sure, a discontinued Lynx fragrance from the early 90′s. Who else is going to photograph that? At least two other people as it turns out, according to Google Image Search.
Well, screw them; they’re not bringing the hot scent scoop on this, which is: vaguely spicy, a descriptor I feel sums up at least a third of all the fragrances Lynx/Axe have ever put out.
Eye of the Tiger? Really?
You know, this ad I kind of like. It's a clever, well-done McCarthy hearings spoof from around 1995. Maybe a few too many mentions of the word "Carlsberg", but still.
Now where was I? Ah yes, ham.
From 1995-ish, this is an ad for Galtee's new fangled snap packs - packaging I can't ever remember closing properly after being opened.
