Just saw the anon about how they would bring Wally’s back. Honestly if we did ever get a s5 i would prefer if they did a similar thing to what The Flash tv show did, where he comes back from the Speed Force but not quite right, due to the timeless nature of there (repeating previous/future conversations and perhaps even a reference to Jai and Irey too), gets some good angst out of that then he finally snaps out of it when the team is in mortal danger and makes a badass entrance to help save them

i think this would be a good way of doing it too! especially since they could then have an excuse to boost his powers and make him the most powerful/fastest speedster like he is in the comics. but for some reason in my head i have a memory of greg saying the speedforce doesn’t exist on earth 16? someone fact check this for me pls idk what’s real and what i made up 😖😖

but let’s pretend it’s real for the sake of this response. i think for young justice especially this would actually work so well. we’ve already had so many quality moments dedicated to the mental/emotional load of being a superhero (think: kaldur, gar, dick…) so it’s not out of the show’s nature to spend a good chunk of time on wally being “not quite right” as u said. and knowing how greg and brandon write, it would be time VERY well spent. i’m sure they could really get into the nitty gritty of it all, the nuances, the super specific experience of the speedforce. ugh it would be so good.

If YJ does get a s5 (delusional thinking i know), how would you want Wally’s return to be handled? I’m impartial to the idea of him being the compulsory “hero under the control of the villains” for the season. Plus think of the angst of the team finding out its him, artemis would be so pissed at Zatanna and M’gaan. Potential fic idea👀

in the nicest way possible, i’m concerned they’ve wasted the “beloved hero returns dramatically after they were presumed dead for a long time and was influenced to work with villains during this time” story on conner. well, ‘wasted’ is the wrong word. but they’ve used it already — quite well, might i add. this is Not me hating on conner or YJ: phantoms at ALL — but if (when) they bring back wally it would feel too repetitive to do the exact same thing with him. they’d have to do something new and they’d have to do it quickly too. that is, if they decide to hold off (if, say, we are potentially renewed for another three or so seasons and wally doesn’t return in season 5), it will likely be too late to bring him back at all.

now, on artemis, zatanna and m’gann…

i maintain that zatanna and m’gann were extremely wrong in that episode with artemis. i’ve always said this. they manipulated her. however, i’ve had this discussion a few times and i’ve come to understand and respect that they really did have the best intentions. they wanted her to heal and to move on, but they absolutely went about it the wrong way. if wally returns, i fully expect artemis to be furious with them. they had NO business interfering with her feelings and her reality. if you (zatanna) can’t reach out to a spirit, just say so. and what was the point of raquel even being there? trust is such a huge thing to artemis - it’s not fair that she should have to doubt not two but THREE of her friends. she will definitely not take their lies lightly if she finds out.

saw a few responses/comments on this and some good points were raised. zatanna does discourage artemis from following through and she does warn her of what limitations exist. it’s clear that she (and m’gann and raquel) care and have their hearts in the right place, but unfortunately they still end up deceiving artemis. i know they genuinely believed they were helping her, and i get that, but would a true friend lie about what she was doing just so the other party could maybe move on? (not to mention grief is different for everyone and it really hasn’t been that long since wally ‘died’ when this episode takes place).

the key issue i have with this entire situation is that artemis genuinely, wholeheartedly believed that she was meeting with wally’s spirit, which she was NOT. zatanna and m’gann straight up lied to her. summoning a spirit, even halfway, is much different than what they did. and i think during their attempt to be helpful, they didn’t really understand that. okay, so the outcome was probably going to be the same even if artemis HAD communicated with wally for real. i’m sure he’d want her to get her life back together. and i know that everything artemis heard and experienced “in limbo” was herself trying to heal and get through the grief. somewhere deep down she knows she should move on and it just took wally telling her that for it to actually happen. i respect that she had the ability to heal within herself already and just needed that little push to get to it. she worked through her pain by herself — through her manifestation of wally and his words.

but that’s not the point.

the point is she thought wally was ACTUALLY telling her these things. the point is she got closure when she shouldn’t have. (this sounds bad. let me explain. of course i don’t want artemis to be stuck in a depressed state forever after losing the love of her life, but in her continued process of grieving and healing — as paula says, two whole years — it’s a huge moment for her to have “spoken to wally” and been guided to move on. now imagine that was anyone else saying it to her. it would be pretty jarring if she was suddenly be okay with everything because someone told her to stop grieving. and the fact that wally did NOT tell her these things means that that closure was not real.) putting this fabricated closure in front of her will ultimately just mess up her entire process of grieving. but grieving takes time and zatanna and m’gann tried to rush it when it didn’t need to be rushed. it really hadn’t been that long since artemis lost wally when she asked zatanna for this.

also, to me it feels like a crazy invasion of privacy from zatanna and m’gann as well. idk how mind playgrounds work but wouldn’t they have to be pulling strings to keep everything running smoothly? were they watching the entire thing? if you can’t bring two spirits together, just say so. tell her directly that even though its not real, she can still experience a little more time with him. idk. maybe i’m being way too dramatic about one single episode of a show with much larger stories to focus on.

all i know is that it would definitely create some resentment and distrust if artemis ever found out about it all. ESPECIALLY if wally were to come back and the “limbo” experience happened to come up.

i’ve been thinking about artemis and her role as tigress in season 2 and it kinda just hit me recently that she had to be/do everything she never wanted to be/do. she's always had a desire to be a hero even though her entire family were villains, she was always interested in other public heroes her age (when she was younger) and their influence, and then suddenly she's asked to go undercover as a villain and she ends up spending like three full months right in the position her dad always said she would end up in.

and man, that's gotta be tough.

like, i guess i never really clocked that she would've been experiencing how it is to be a villain. kaldur too, of course. but the fact that artemis specifically distanced herself from all that (even though her dad was so adamant on her joining his operation) and then in the end she has to live it for three whole months.

and to go from all of this (not to mention losing the love of her life like 24 hours after this whole debacle ended) to then seeing her in season 3 where she's helping so many young people... it's a really nice direction they took with her character. it’s a really big thing and it really sticks with me. you’ve gotta be an incredible person for that and she's such a fascinating character for doing so. i love that they had her take an extra heroic role in season 3 helping so many young people and season 4 as leader of the team.

not only is it so nice to see someone who's been through so much shit actively trying to help others so they never go through what she did, but she does all of this because she wants to and because it's the right thing to do. no revenge, no angst, just genuine goodness.

guys i'm so sad rn i've been thinking about wally and artemis all day and i just cannot shake this deeply sickening feeling at the knowledge that once they finally found something quiet for themselves after so fucking long, they only had twenty four hours to savour it without even knowing those were their last moments together unmasked. the last time she saw him he was wearing a mask bro i cannot fucking do this they didn't even get to say goodbye properly. they had to bury an empty casket she didn't even get to let him go properly i can't fucking believe this. and then she walks into the fucking watchtower and someone else is wearing the same fucking uniform oh god i actually feel unwell i don't think u guys get how gut wrenchingly horrid that is. everything they'd known for the last five years bundled up and forced onto the too-small shoulders of someone who shouldn't have even been there, or hidden in boxes because "artemis was wally's parter" and she can't even separate herself from the persona that stood beside the yellow and red oh god. and then they don't even get to say goodbye properly fucking zatanna and m'gann give her this fake closure that's kind of just a reminder of the fact that she will never ever have what she truly wanted. because all she really wanted was a life with him. simple and quiet and structured because they were meant to finish college together and they had a house and a family and a life and yet they only had twenty four fucking hours do u guys understand this it was not even a whole day before they were ripped apart again i cannot deal with this i'm about to burst into tears literally all artemis wanted was the one thing that was taken from her. how can i go on knowing all of this and having no way to rectify it. how the fuck. why. what the hell.

keep in mind that it wasn’t even a full 24hrs. they had 12hrs MAX together before suiting back up. im physically ill.

without forgetting that everyone in artemis’ life always ends up leaving whether they want to or not and wally was the only constant in her life. also pretty sure greg weisman said that they were planning on getting married after college and having kids but now that hope is demolished bcs the writers killed wally off for some reason.

all she (and he, too) wanted was that little family and a quiet life and they TOOK IT FROM HER AHHHHH.. and then she throws herself into being a hero and a mentor and separating herself from who she was when wally was still around and nobody even cares. putting on the tigris suit instead of her iconic green. taking on responsibilities for the team that she definitely doesn’t have time or energy for. pushing herself to study more and get higher degrees/certifications to keep herself busy. looking after her niece….

give my girl a break. give her wally back.
