The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang (2018)⁣⁣

⁣⁣

A dark military fantasy. I mostly listened to this one on audio (which is very well done), though it got to a certain point where I couldn’t listen to some of the more horrific moments. So, at the tail-end, I switched to the ebook. ⁣⁣⁣

This world was expansive and well-thought out, entrenched in war and surrounded by gods, though I expect we’ll learn more about that in book 2. I’m not sure when I’ll get to the second as I feel I need a break from the series for now.⁣⁣

I’ll be honest, there are a lot of content warnings for this one:⁣⁣

Sexual assault, torture, extreme violence and descriptive gore (including descriptions about children), drug use and addiction and probably many more things that have escaped me currently. ⁣⁣
