EXPECTATIONS

What exactly do we call or consider as "VALUES"?

Are they laws?

Rules?

Or just the way we are told to act?

What are we supposed to believe in?

Who are we to trust?

Are we to do what we really want or are we to follow their will because they have seen life and we have not?

Are we to keep hope burning?

Should we just follow the path they laid for us?

They say obedience is a sacrifice...some sacrifices are not meant to be made.

They define what is desirable, important, or morally right, helping individuals determine priorities and evaluate actions. These core principles shape personalities and dictate how people interact with the world.

Paper doesn't like rain.

Tomi always sat by the window in German class, folding paper into tiny stars whenever the lesson got too quiet. Most people ignored it. Tristan didn’t.

He watched the way Tomi’s fingers moved, quick and careful, like the world was loud and this was the only thing that didn’t overwhelm him. One Tuesday afternoon, after the bell rang, Tristan finally spoke.

“You know,” he said, leaning over Tomi’s desk, “you make those like you’re trying to build a galaxy.”

Tomi blinked, startled. “I just… like them.”

“I didn’t say that was a bad thing.”

Tomi hesitated, then slid one of the stars across the table. Pale yellow. Edges sharp. “You can have it, if you want.” Tristan took it like it was something fragile. “Thanks.”

They started walking out together after that. Not on purpose at first. Then one day it was on purpose, and neither of them admitted it.

One rainy afternoon, Tristan found Tomi sitting under the old tree behind school, hoodie up, shoes muddy, paper in hand. Trying to fold, but the raindrops kept ruining the edges.

“Bad day?” Tristan asked.

Tomi shrugged. “Paper doesn’t like rain.”

“Good thing I do,” Tristan said, sitting beside him. He took the soggy paper gently, smoothing it as best he could. “Here. Try again.”

Tomi folded it slowly this time, almost like he wanted Tristan to watch. And Tristan did—because there was something soft about the moment, something that didn’t need explaining.

When Tomi handed him the new star, Tristan didn’t let it fall into his palm. He took Tomi’s hand instead, closing their fingers around it together.

“You’re not building a galaxy alone,” Tristan said quietly.

Tomi didn’t pull away. The rain eased a little, as if giving them space.

And for the first time, Tomi smiled like the sky wasn’t too heavy anymore.

I told the night I wasn’t afraid of it. It laughed like it knew something I didn’t. Turns out it did, and I still walked in anyway.
