A giant among Rome’s dwarfs
A President, a giant.
Emma Bonino for President
Cattelan dares the world to take offence, and then redeems himself through impishness. His jokes lack punchlines, and his homilies refuse to offer lessons. That means the viewer can choose how seriously to take him – whether to praise him as a prophet, get into a lather of outrage, or merely smile indulgently.
In the meantime the horse is turning gray...
On White II, 1923 Wassily Kandinsky Oil on canvas, 105 x 98 cm
Look closely. Despite the many colors in this work, it really is a play off of two colors: white and black. Triangles, squares, and other geometrical shapes of bright colors virtually explode from the center, creating an energetic, almost joyful composition. They proclaim the limitless opportunities of life. Black cuts through the background with violent effect, shattering the peace of the colorful combination. It’s a grim reminder of how these opportunities can be taken away in an instant. Don’t see it? No wonder Kandinsky is credited as one of the first pure abstract painters.
Tate Pink III, 2012 Paul Catherall Linocut, 28 x 28 cm Paul Catherall reinvents the familiar with his colourful prints, putting a contemporary spin on icons of modern architecture. Classic and cutting-edge in equal measure, his linocuts draw on the golden age of poster design. This print celebrates London's magnificent Tate Modern, the power station-come-modern art gallery which is the most visited in the world.
Here we go! Cristina has just graduated and now she is thinking about her future staring into nothingness like a cat.

Lightwork by Conrad Shawcross
These hypnotic light machines often look and move like robots found in a car factory, but these elaborate kinetic sculptures have bright lights attached to their limbs and as they rotate their arms they create wonderful geometric shapes out of the light trails. Conrad has created many of these installations and all of them are fascinating, his website is linked below, where you can find the entire “Lightwork” series.
“Looking back is something that I’ve avoided for quite a while. I like looking forward because the possibilities are infinite.”
Damien Hirst, Tate Modern, London.
"L’arte rinnova i popoli e ne rivela la vita. Vano delle scene il diletto ove non miri a preparar l’avvenire."
Teatro Massimo, Palermo.
I CAN'T SEE THE FUTURE
We are about to vote next month and many key issues are utterly absent:
1) Environment: What are their plans to address climate change? What do they think about sustainable development?
2) Energy: What role do they see wind, solar, and other renewable energy sources playing in our energy future? What should Italy do about it?
3) Education: How to enhance public education? Do they intent to support the right to education? How to make the best with owr human capital?
