This doujin is so cute, but the ending was so frustrating since it's kinda ambiguous on purpose, i think Rohan did consider returning his feelings, but he just wanted Josuke to be more assertive about his own feelings towards him first.

Unrequited feelings?

Josuke developed a small crush on Rohan after highway star and decided to not act on those feelings thinking he’d be straight up rejected, and he’d be right about that, so decided to ignore those feelings and focuses on gain his friendship the very least.

Even if Josuke and Rohan are not in amiccable terms they tolerate each other much more after Kira’s death, plus they are kinda forced to be civil around each other for Koichis sake, they still bicker and fight but this time they’re more open to each others presence.

Around 2001 their relationship begins to change, their serious bickering starts becoming more lighthearted, even playful at times, Josuke actually listens to Rohan when he shares interesting trivia or experiences he’s had, and Rohan begins to find Josukes selfless and brave attitude endearing (and foolish). He won’t admit it out loud but he believes he’d be a good manga protagonist, the thought surprises Rohan, he never thought he’d see Josuke in a positive light, ever.

Rohan slowly develops feelings for Josuke, and this realization is not sentimental nor cute, it’s catastrophic and a punch to Rohan’s ego, he wants to escape and hide, he will avoid these feelings at all cost, because the only thing that matters is his manga right? Not a stupid foolish brat.

He tries to delude himself into thinking it’s a temporary infatuation, but it’s useless, for the first time in his life he is thinking in something other than his manga, he’s into deep.

Highway Star truly was the arc that made me fall in love with JosuHan

Josuke and Rohan fighting and disliking one another since they met to later RISKING THEIR LIFE to save each other is just mwah! cheffs kiss, of course Rohan didn't SAVE Josuke because he likes him, he did it because he knows it's the right thing to do (and to spite HS obviously) however...

Both of them were clearly moved by the others actions, it's so clear, despite their feud they still wanna team up to defeat a common enemy, they still want to help one another, they matched each others wavelengths at that moment and saw a side of them they didn't see before, they were willing to risk their life to save on another despite their differences.

It's so funny that highway star even mocks the idea of them being lovers (yes, in Japanese he did imply a romantic relationship between the two).

And despite everything Josuke still wanted to befriend him, to start again, but unfortunately Rohans pride is big and he was still mad about Josuke trying to scam him (rightfully so).

The whole scene was so soft then Rohan ruined it (made it more fun)

Even Jotaro had to witness these two brats bickering about it, it was very shippy coded, not gonna lie, david pro did that on purpose for sure.

And this is where i saw the potential of them becoming something more in the future, i can't see them dating right away, they'd have to experience an ''enemies'' to lovers slow burn that could last a couple of years until they finally accept their feelings.
