11/28 - 교사가 되기

미래 = future

항상 = always

곳 = place

외국어 = foreign language

가르치다 = to teach

조금 = a little (bit)

낯을 가리지다 = to be shy 

열심히 = hard/diligently 

교사 = teacher (profession)

아들 = son

우리 친구의 아들은 미래에 교사가 되고 싶어요. 학교는 항상 그가 행복한 곳이었어요. 그는 외국어 실력이 좋고 책읽기를 많이 좋아해요. 그는 아이를 가르치기가 재미있다고 생각해요. 지금 우리 친구의 아들은 조금 낯을 가리지만 많이 웃고 매우 좋은 사람이에요. 저는 그가 열심히 일하면 미래에 매우 좋은 교사가 될 것을 알아요.

My friend’s son wants to become a teacher a lot. School has always been his favourite place. He is good at foreign languages and likes reading a lot. He thinks that teaching kids is fun. My friend’s son is a little shy now, but he laughs a lot and is a very good person. I know that if he works hard, he will be a very good teacher in the future. See a mistake? Let me know!

제프는 서올에 학생이고 나이에 비해 키가 크다. 운동하지 많이 좋아한다 그래서 이 소년의 남방들과 바지들을 너무 작다. 제프는 음악감상도 좋아한다. 악기를 배운 싶다. 새 기타를 원하지만 내년까지 기다려야 한다. 제프 그의 할머니에 편지는 써었다. 할머니가 그에게 새 기타를 빨리 살지 알고 싶다. 할머니는 "난 돈을 없어요."라고 썼다. 제프는 지금 슬프다.

Jeff is a student in Seoul and is tall for his age. He likes to exercise a lot, so the boy’s shirts and pants are too small. Jeff likes to listen to music, too. He wants to learn to play on an instrument. He wants a new guitar, but he has to wait until next year. Sad Jeff wrote a letter to his grandmother. He wants to know if she will buy him a new guitar sooner. Grandma wrote “I don’t have money”. Jeff is sad now.

Daily Vocab Challenge #2

Today’s words actually work pretty well together, so it was quite easy to write something that has some sense. I decided to practice the diary verb conjugation as well.

매일 - everyday

들어보다 - to listen

역속하다 - to promise

듣다 - to hear

느리다 - to be slow

놀라다 - to be surprised

노력하다 - to try

노래 - song

매일 나는 한국어를 공부하러 노력한다. 한국어는 어렵지만 나는 이가 좋아한다. 나는 많은 한국 노래들을 들어보와 드라마들을 본다. 한국어를 듣기는 좋은 연습을 있는다. 가끔 나는 내가 얼마나 이해할 수 있는지 놀란다. 내가 읽기는 느리지만 내일 나는 “곰돌이 퓨”라는 책을 읽고 싶은데. 이 책은 재미있고 나는 이거를 좋아한다. 나는 한국어를 더 연습할 것을 약속한다.

I try to study Korean everyday. Korean is difficult but I like it. I listen to a lot of Korean songs and watch dramas. Hearing Korean is a good practice. Sometimes I am surprised by how much I can understand.

My reading is slow, but tomorrow I want to read a book called “Winnie the Pooh”. This book is very funny and I like it. I promise to practice Korean more.

I removed 2 words from today’s list ( 만지다 = to touch and 운동하다 = to exercise), as I ran out of ideas how to use them here. I will make sure to add them to tomorrow’s list, though!

🔥 불꽃 🔥

This is definitely my new favorite Korean word! When you put 불 (fire) and 꽃 (flower) together, you get a fire flower (불꽃) = fireworks / a flame. Isn’t it beautiful? Additionally, when you put 불 (fire) and 길 (road) together, you get a fire road (불길) = a flame, too!

Oh, how much I enjoy discovering gems like these! It makes learning Korean so much more fun and enjoyable.

Daily Vocab Challenge #1

Every day I aim for learning  ~ 10 new words using Anki and have to get better at building my own sentences. It's a bit tricky, because the words come up so randomly. Why not to create little stories that use all the words of the day, I thought. They might not be complex or poetic, since I’ve started to learn Korean literally 2 months ago, but here I go!

수도 - capital city

선물 - gift

신발 - shoe

종이 - paper

야채 - vegetables

손목시계 - wristwatch (시계 - clock 손목 - wrist )

끝나다 / 끝내다 - to be finished / to finish

자다 - to sleep

앉다 - to sit

기대하다 - to expect

약속하다 - to promise

아래 - bottom

오늘 전 수도에 우리 어머니의 위한 선물을 사러 가요. 전 그녀의 위한 신발이나 손목시계를 사고 싶어요. 엄마는 비싼 선물을 기대하지 않지만 전 우리 오빠를 아름다운 그것이 사러 약속했어요. 전 아침식사로 야채고 그림을 그리기 위해 종이를도 사요. 이제 모든 것이 제 가방 아래에 있어요. 5시간 후에 전 피곤하니까 쇼핑을 끝내요. 오늘 전 기차로 집에 가요. 여기 앉을 자리가 없어요. 저는 집에 가고 나서 잘 거예요. 제 침대가 그리워!

I'm going to the capital city to buy a gift for our mother today. I want to buy her shoes or a wristwatch. Mom doesn’t expect an expensive gift, but I promised my older brother that I will buy something beautiful. I buy vegetables for breakfast and paper for drawing, too. After 5 hours I am tired, so I finish shopping. Today I go home by train. There’s no place to sit here. I’m going to sleep when I get home. I miss my bed!

Ufff... it was a bit of a challenge to put some of the words in context. I bet there’s a lot of mistakes and it sounds clumsy, but I think it’s the longest text (with any kind of story anyway) that I wrote since I’ve started learning Korean, so I’m pretty proud of myself. I had to check some grammar here and there but tried to use only the things I know/remember already.
