How can you bear it?
worldsbuildâ:
When the Doctor said they made stuff of quality in the 60âČs, Chuck turned to look at the police box again and smiled. âThey sure did,â he agreed. âCassette tapes⊠The Beatles⊠the freaking moon landingâŠâ He trailed off, and squinted at the police box for a couple more seconds, before turning back to her. âYeah, the 60âČs was a great decade. One of the best.â He didnât realise heâd totally insulted her until she said it sounded pretentious, and he actually felt bad. He liked this lady. Beyond her intriguing mystery, he actually liked her. âOh, no, I didnât mean it like that,â he said, awkwardly. âDoctorâs a cool title. Be proud of it. You earned it, right?â He gave her a quick, apologetic, smile, and hoped that covered it. She wasnât really bothered, but he didnât want any hard feelings between them.
She offered to go for a drink, and he jumped on the chance. âThat sounds great,â he said. âWe canât exactly stay here, right?â He glanced around the warehouse. It wasnât the most comfortable place to have a chat. When she reached into the box and pulled out her coat, he frowned a little, but didnât question it. It was hardly the weirdest thing about her. He was used to her energy by now â it wasnât distracting anymore. He followed her out into the open area, away from the blue box, and listened patiently as she talked. âCustard creams, huh?â he said. âYeah, I donât know anywhere youâd get those.â He frowned into the distance, thinking for a second. It was a pretty risky move, but now it had crossed his mind, he couldnât shake it. Chuck loved showing off his powers casually, and, whatever this woman was, she wasnât human. He figured she was used to seeing weird things. A parlour trick probably wouldnât phase her. And maybe itâd be like a âyou show me yours if I show you mineâ sort of deal? If he revealed just a little of his powers, maybe she would open up?
Screw it. âBut donât worry, Doctor,â he said. âI got it.â He reached behind his back like a magician and conjured a packet of custard creams, and held them out to her with a grin. âIâm not just a pretty face, you know. Iâve got a few tricks up my sleeve.â He ripped open the packet, and ate one, to prove they werenât poisoned, or whatever. âGo ahead, try one,â he said, with his mouth full. âTheyâre edible. My girlfriend hates eating stuff I conjure, but itâs just as good as store bought stuff. I swear.â He held the packet out to her with an expectant smile.
The Doctor frowned when he said he didnât know where to get them either. She sighed, untucking her hair from her coat, the sun catching the blonde in her hair as it leaked through the broken glass of the buildingâs windows. Maybe she should just try something new. The employee at the shop mentioned that Chips Ahoy was a good brand. It was only when the man spoke up that she turned, her hands sliding into her trouser pockets as she watched.Â
When she saw the familiar wrapping appear from behind him, she stood silent...Well that was definitely not human. The Doctor, for the first time in a long while, was speechless. What was he? She hadnât felt this for ages. Curiosity. It was so easy to give into it again. The need to know what and when and how.Â
The Timelord stepped forward, the sound of her boots echoing the only noise she made as she reached out, gently plucking a biscuit from the plastic container and bringing it up to her lips. She took a bite, happy to finally have something that was familiar to her. She finished her chewing, looking at the man with such interest. She had to know what was up. âI knew it. I knew I felt something different about you.â The Doctor looked him over once more, trying to decide how to react to this. âSorry if this seems a bit impolite, but...â she pulled her sonic out from her pocket. âMind if I give ya a scan? Nothinâ that will hurt. Promise. Just want to get some readings.â she held out the device, pointing it towards her and pressing the button just to assure him. âSee? Harmless.â

The Doctor needed a lab. Or at least a place that had the tools she needed. It was almost impossible trying to find out what was wrong with the TARDIS when she couldnât even access the rooms that held any equipment. So finally she caved in, heading out into the town and trying to find some place that had at least a microscope. Despite being limited to the time periodâs technology, she knew that she could work out something from nothing, like she always did. Stepping through the door, she pulled her psychic paper from her coat pocket, ready. âExcuse me.â she called to the first person she saw. âI was wondering if you could help me. I just started workinâ today.â she held out the paper, making it out to be an I.D. badge. âIâm...Rose.â she finished, chewing on her bottom lip. Why did she choose that name of all names?
irresistiiblesâ:
She had not given up her search for the Doctor, though she had had to slow down the hunt considerably. It was frustrating, but with no idea where she box was she was contained to the limits of the human body she was stuck in, which meant keeping her feet from falling off. Despite that she was pushing her limits today. In a way maybe she knew. It was harder, outside of the box and having a more linear progression through time, to keep track of everything that would be happening. Maybe thatâs why she had been so on edge, unable to parse through everything and know where the Doctor was, know her Doctor was safe with everything going on. Still, it was a feeling that had her pushing forward still wandering through the city while being plenty ready to call it a day. It felt worth it though when she was knocked into, the familiarity of the body that hit her enough that she barely registered herself stumbling back a step, truly lucky that she didnât completely fall over in the act.
âHello.â She breathed, not even replying to the apology she had been given. It didnât really matter anyway. The Taris had taken much worse than a light bumping from the Doctor before, even if it had made the ache in her legs and feet worse. She wasnât going to mess things up this time, forget her greeting until she was already leaving. âYou always have to try and run off without me donât you.â The words werenât really harsh, nor completely true, even if she did get left alone in frequent bursts. She always felt confident in the fact that the Doctor would eventually return to her. âIâm surprised you havenât picked anyone up here yet. Canât offer to show anyone the universe without a ride I suppose.â She stood up on her toes, glancing over the Doctorâs shoulder, as if looking for a tiny companion following behind her.
She wasnât sure what to make of the girl in front of her. It had been a while since someone talked to her that way before. It put the blonde off, and she took a single step back, trying to process what was happening. It reminded her slightly of Clara, and a small ache in her chest bloomed, but faded as quick as it appeared. âSorry,â she started, because the Timelord knew she had to say something, âDo I know ya?â The Doctor finished as her personal space was invaded. Okay. Something was obviously up. And thatâs when she sensed it; a familiarity that clung to her hearts. It was as if she was sending energy singles directly to her. A psychic link...As if she were Gallifreyan. But that wasnât quite it...There was something else. Something The Doctor was missing. âIt feels like I do. You...arenât human, are you?â she pulled her sonic from the breast pocket of her coat. âMind if I have a scan? Just a quick one.â
â itâs okay , iâm here . iâll always be here . â (from the tardis)
The Doctor looked at the girl in front of her. She was still trying to process...all of this. Even if this wasnât the first time it had happened. âI know you will.â she spoke softly, looking down at her hands. âYou are my constant. Always have been.â The blondeâs voice faded as she spoke, as if she were barely running on anything at all. âIâll get us out of this mess. I always do, donât I?â That was when she cracked a small smile, reaching out and placing her hand over the otherâs. The contrast was very apparent. The Doctorâs hands were rough and callused from her adventures, while this body her ship inhabited had soft and smooth skin. âI always do.â she repeated.Â

âoh, i donât break that easily.â trick? manipulate? those depended on the day. âthe doctor? thatâs cool. can i go by the jedi then?â that joke wouldnât make sense to her. or anyone else, save from hera and the others. but when he would retell it later, it wouldnât be nearly as funny as he thought it was now. âsorry- i wouldnât even be the jedi, i donât think. lots before and after, i existed in sort of a weird time-,â why was he telling this stranger all this? âdoesnât matter. iâm ezra bridger.âÂ
The Doctor wasnât sure what the other meant by that, but the word sounded vaguely familiar...like some knowledge she had long ago. Probably an Earth title she had never heard of before, as if that were possible. âIâm not really a Doctor. Well not a doctor doctor. Iâm more of a...â she paused, trying to find the right words...as if they existed. No words could describe her fully. âAh, nice to meet ya, Ezra! Even if it was cause I was being careless.â The Doctor smiled brightly, looking around the store. âActually, Ezra, could I ask you for a favor?â
Always an awkward situation to be in.Â

ezra was staring down on his phone when he ran in to the other. he had started making a small grocery list the night before, because he knew he would end back up at the store and only remember to get anchovies, he and his cat jabbaâs favorite snack. but he was an adult now he needed things like limes and apple cider vinegar and corn- admittedly, ezra was here for ingredients to make pickled corn. and anchovies. both kept well.Â
âahhhhhhh- woah. iâm sorry.â what kind of jedi couldnât even sense the person in front of them? the galaxyâs worst one. or at least- dcâs worst one. âare you alright?â
âMe? oh yeah. Totes fine. Absolutely fantastic--â she let out a small laugh, rubbing the back of her neck. âAre you alright though? I havenât hurt ya have I?â she checked him over, feeling the twitch in her fingers that wanted to grab at her sonic. Sonics werenât blending in. Sonics were screaming âlook at me, Iâm pointing a strange object at you.â She looked him over though, and he seemed physically okay, as well as the items in his possession. âIâm The Doctor, by the way.âÂ
