@creeperinavan
me when I reblog a post specifically for my mutuals
Crazy this joke hasn't aged in almost 20 years since the episode aired
THE MUPPET SHOW (2026)
It's slow going but The Pile CAN be smallened!
Hell yeah! Progress is incremental! And that's ok!
It sure is! And as I said in the blog post I wrote about The Pile, if it's been built up over many years it's unrealistic and unfair to yourself to expect to finish all those things quickly.
Also I added 2 more things to The Pile in 2024, but none in 2025, so I'm getting much better at finishing things before moving on to new things! It gets easier and easier to pick up old projects the more of them I do too!
I love this so much for you!!! But also it is okay to leave things! I am very strongly against "I can't finish this because my brainweasels say no, but that means I can't start anything new, so therefore I cannot do Activity™ even though it would make my life better if I could" which I see a lot in my role as a facilitator of making and so forth?
I love a finished project (don't fact check me) but I also love Doing the thing because the thing makes life better
I hope that makes sense? I am also VERY impressed with the Pile Progress though and very delighted this is still happening because friends send me these regularly and say "it you" and I'm always so honoured
Oh yes I agree! That's the same kind of thinking that makes people not read new books if they're stubbornly trying to finish one they don't like. I've had to not finish plenty of projects, mostly because they would never fit me now, or because I started them when I was not as good at sewing. I'm not aiming for 1 project at a time always forever, because it's nice to have a longer term embroidery or patchwork project going along with quicker stuff, and I also like to keep something at work for slow days.
The thing I recommend in the blog post is making firm decisions about all the projects so you can count all the ones you definitely want to finish on The Pile, and then the rest you can move to the scrap box and stop worrying about.
When I officially started counting The Pile the number got a bit higher at first, and it's gone slightly up instead of down a few times here and there, but generally it's shrinking. I still haven't finished my year in review video & blog post but I'm not adding Reduce The Pile as an official goal like I did the last 2 years. 25 was a distressing number but 5 feels fine and manageable.
