The company I work for is... Intense, by human standards. In my defense! I didn't know to question it when I was starting out. And in their defense, a lot of the c-suite aren't human. The Illuminati have had an intimate business relationship with the Hell Dimensions going back thousands of years.

We have a certain reputation - for power, money, control - and anyone who wants a piece of that has has to be willing to fight their way into the ranks. It's. Very competitive. And people are very easily replaced. Anyone who can't keep up or handle the pressure...
People get culled pretty regularly. You screw up, you lose your edge, a higher up is in a bad mood, a higher up is hungry... Plenty of reasons people end just disappearing. And office policy is to never mention them again.
I got 'lucky.' I was offered my position without ever knowing the company actually existed! But I'm still.
I'm still replaceable. And nobody actually leaves when the company is done with them.
One of my few perks is that I'm super annoying to get rid of least! But. That does mean my employers will turn to... other avenues of motivation.
A few years ago, I got myself in trouble serious enough that they told me they'd taken my pets, and one of them - my Galvantula, Theraphosa - had resisted and been killed in the process. There was a video and everything, haha. I really thought. There wouldn't be anyone waiting for me at home. Until I got there and everyone was fine.
I. Whatever I think. About what I need to do or what's best for me, that isn't how the company works. The threats have been made. I'm running out of chance before they're followed through with, and they start ticking down the list of anyone I've ever had so much as a pleasant conversation with and making an example out of them to bring me back into line.
I can't do that, to any of them. The needs of the many, right? It is my job, and I agreed to it. I have a responsibility to everyone here.
Today's wasp of the day is the yellow-headed hairy flower wasp (Scolia verticalis)!

This wasp can often be found rooting around in mulch or woodchips in search of beetle grubs to lay her eggs on. Her other extracurriculars include slurping nectar from native flowers (and by proxy pollinating them) and finding a nice stick or reed to curl up around or dangle off of.
This is my home. I can't just abandon it or the people here.
And that's what 'breaking free' would cost. My kind aren't exactly allowed to run around unsupervised, and the company I work for isn't the type to let anyone go. I'd be burning a lot of bridges for next to no gain.
Mm. I can't say that it would never happen, but it's something we'd need to talk about and I don't have anyone in mind at the moment. Nor am I particularly looking.
