Wipeout | Anthony + Wednesday
-
Anthony supposed it was the fact that the girl was younger than he, that she was clearly a child and therefore imaginative. He supposed it was because she looked like something out of a haunted house. He supposed it was just the curiosity to find out whether or not she believed him. Anthony didn’t know exactly the reasoning, but he decided to tell her the truth.
"A ghost."
He pointed it out with a black-painted nail.
"Just behind you."
-- " Hm. "
Wednesday knew her family, and she knew that things like that really did happen. Her grandmama's spells worked, her pet was a severed hand, her cousin was a lieral giant hairball.
-- " I believe you . "
Wipeout | Anthony + Wednesday
-
Anthony heaved out a scowl, glaring at the ghost behind the little girl, willing it away before he trudged up the edge of the bowl. Now that he stood closer to the black-clad little girl, he gestured to his bleeding knees with his good arm. “It’ just a scrape,” he revealed. “I’ll be fine. I’ve fallen off plenty of times.”
Truthfully, he was just a little… wary of the haunted little girl who had decided to watch him skate. As tough as Anthony liked to believe he was, he did have to admit that he found her somewhat unnerving. There was just a… thing about her that he couldn’t quite place and it either had little, or everything to do with the ghost he’d seen.
Wednesday nodded, but still stayed put. She wondered what the boy could see, and decided to ask.
-- " What can you see ? " Wednesday was genuinely curious.

Anthony carefully rose to his feet, mindful of his elbow. He cradled his left arm and stared down at the holes in his jeans, kneecaps slicked with blood, blotting through where the fabric covered. “I’m fine,” he hissed, glancing off in the same direction he had before. The dark-haired boy narrowed his eyes at something only he could see, something flitting just at the edge of his vision. He scoffed, muttering something under his breath before walking over to retrieve his board.
With an air of annoyance, Anthony stamped down on the nose of his skateboard, sending the tail end of it upward and into his waiting hand. He gripped the deck tightly and then tucked the entire board under his arm, hissing as the scrapes on his knees began to sting.
By now he was starting to feel as if he was being watched. Anthony looked to his left, dull eyes peering through long lashes at the young girl who stood at the edge of the bowl. He stared through eyes that were rimmed with sloppy makeup, red and black eyeshadow smeared on heavily over eyelids and underneath his eyes. His lips were pale and pouting, a silver ring glinting through the bottom.
There was something about the girl, she looked as if she’d stepped out of one of Anthony’s favourite slasher flicks. She was like the creepy little kid who’d end up knifing some poor sap at the end of a long hallway— he kind of liked it. More surprisingly so was what took up the space behind her. It was the vision from before, the ghost who’d been trying to get his attention. For some reason, he stuck close to her.
Maybe he was just playing a trick.
"Uh…"
Anthony lift one finger to point out the spirit, teeth sinking into his bottom lip, thin brows knotting in concern. His nails were painted black, chipped and rough around the edges. He wore fingerless gloves, screen printed with the bones of a human skeleton.
Remembering that ghosts were only something he could see, the boy abandoned any thoughts of warning her. Instead, his nose scrunched with displeasure and he turned his head away.
"Piss off, kid. I’m fine."
Wednesday saw the punk kid glaring, but not at her. Apparently, there was something behind her! She twised her head back as far as she could, but she just didn't see it. He was probably concussed.
-- " But ... you don't look alright. "
It was true, and Wednesday decided to stay right where she was, even sitting on the ground to signify she wasn't gonna move.

It was a brisk morning.
In Anthony’s opinion, it was a perfect weekend for spending some time outside and enjoying the autumn air; soaking up all the fresh air he could before the sharpness of winter froze everything over. The scent of fallen leaves came up from the ground, color rained down from the network of branched belonging to the trees surrounding the park. It was still early, the sun’s rays casting gold through the spaces in trees as it rose. The boy was still alone, which suited him fine.
Armed with a hoodie, his skateboard and a cigarette he’d snuck from the top of his step-father’s dresser, Anthony propelled himself along the gravel path, hands in his pockets. He stopped when he reached the bowl, staring down into it with a satisfied grin. The whole skate park would be his for an hour if he was lucky— he’d timed himself well. Anthony had known by now that if he’d gotten his ass out of bed early enough, he could get out here before parents brought their kids on scooters and roller skates. He could practice his tricks in peace for the most part.
The boy pulled his headphones down from his head, letting them sit comfortably around his neck, the thrashing guitars still blaring. So far, so good… He felt like a kid in a candy store. Giving another kick, Anthony rolled to the edge of the bowl, pressing his foot gently against the nose of the board, shifting his weight so that the wheels rolled forward. A breeze whipping through his two-toned air, Anthony dropped into the bowl and sped towards the other side. When he reached the opposite edge, he crouched slightly, shoulders tensing as he prepared for the jump. He wanted to execute a simple kickflip, a basic trick that Anthony had preformed one hundred times over. Just as he was beginning to lift, the boy felt a sharp flash of pain behind his eyes, white spots clouding the corners of his vision, directly in front of him, he saw something familiar. Something that didn’t belong.
"Fuck!"
On instinct, the boy reached to clutch his head. ‘Not now, not fucking now,’ was all he could think as he lost control of the board and crashed against the side of the bowl. With a sickening noise, Anthony’s small body rolled down to the center, his skate board clattering after him.
It wasn’t as if he hadn’t fallen off his board before. Hell, he’d fallen plenty of times when he was still learning. What’d shaken him the most was what had happened just before the fall. The… visions as he was calling them were getting much too frequent for his liking. The voices he heard that no one else could, the people he saw that weren’t really there. All of it was definitely not normal and worst of all, it was making even the most basic of tasks difficult for Anthony.
"Ow…"
He whined, gingerly picking himself up and cradling his elbow. He hissed when he saw his knees, the denim torn and skin ripped down to bleeding. His elbow ached and his head was throbbing. He cursed again, let out a deep breath and was about to lie back and wallow when he heard the sound of branches snapping. He wasn’t alone in the park.
The eighteen year-old frowned, tugging on his lip ring with his teeth, cheeks heating up in embarrassment. Damnit. If someone was here, that means they saw him wipe out.
"Hah. Hah. Yeah, I fell. Okay? Don’t rub it in!"
He called out, scoffing.
Autumn was Wednesday's favorite time of the year, when the sky was nearly always cloudy, Halloween was right around the corner, and of course it was getting cooler. The idyllic little town was safe enough for her to walk at any time, but she preferred midday when it was warmer. It was fun for her to people watch, as well. Not that she didn't get a few stares, but hey, she was an Addams, and Addamses never let that get them down. Wednesday was never one to flinch at gore, but the kid's skateboarding accident was one for the ages. He had flipped off magnificently, the board itself skidding ten, twenty feet away from him when he landed on the ground.
-- " Are you okay ? "
The thirteen year old didn't sound genuinely concerned, but it was better than ignoring it.

"Do you spook easily, [name]?"
"Just do your job but never forget what [he/she/you] [is/are]."
"Oh, [he’s/she’s/you’re] a monster. A pure psychopath."
"His pulse never got above 85. Even when he ate her tongue."
"When she’s finished, bring her out."
"But are you strong enough to point that high powered perception at yourself?"
"A census-taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti."
"What I want is a view. I want a window where I can see a tree, or even water."
"Quid pro quo. I tell you things, you tell me things."
