Personality: He was never one to stand apart from the crowd. Maybe with a shave, a haircut, and a good night’s sleep Brighton could be yet another decent-looking thirty-something, but the fact of the matter is that he usually can't be bothered. Most days it doesn’t seem he’s looked in a mirror much less brushed his hair, and the dark circles beneath eyes attest to many a sleepless night. Out of uniform, he doesn’t dress to impress. Undercover (often to infiltrate drug and human trafficking rings), his only distinguishing features are a complete and total lack thereof.

He is exceedingly private, with a tendency to get lost inside his own thoughts, but one would be hard-pressed to meet a more calm or level-headed person. He has an unadvertised passion for books and music, and an impressive collection of both hard covers and vinyl. He’s never habitually smoked, and nowadays doesn’t drink nearly as much as he probably should. He routinely forgets that coffee doesn't taste as good as it smells, and has a habit of leaving barely touched styrofoam cups all over the department.

History: Brighton wasn't born in a barn, but he all but grew up in one. Hailing from central Texas, he was the oldest of two children but generally preferred the company of farm animals to that of his rambunctious little sister (or other people in general). He was a reserved child, gentle and certainly not the biggest, but he did play football, if only so the tiny county school could field a team.

Athletics were never going to win him any college scholarships, however, nor were his mediocre grades, so upon graduation Brighton did the logical thing and enlisted with the army. Eleven years and several combat tours later, he was medically discharged. He spent nearly a year in a psychiatric hospital, and upon his release pursued a career in law enforcement.

Some days, it's difficult to gauge whether his heart is truly in it - but given his track record, no one could ever accuse him of doing a less than exemplary job.

Personality: James is a soft and gentle soul with a sharp edge to him when the occasion calls for it. Relatively quiet, he prefers a peaceful life and a calm existence. He appreciates knowledge and kindness, while he also admires strength and determination. He sees people for more than what they set themselves up to be. He expects more from people and offers a hand to help them achieve it. Everyone has potential for greatness, but he can also see the potential for corruption in those who gorge themselves on power or prove false in their bonds of friendship.

He is steadfast, loyal and studious. Intelligent and generally pleasant, he is slow to anger, but forceful and focused when the need comes. His morals guide him more than anything and he’s not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. While his occupation is social, he also enjoys many solitary pursuits. He’s never one to mind being alone with his thoughts.

History: The Atwoods have a long and lavish history, not just in New Orleans but throughout the world. Hailing from Ireland, the Atwoods migrated over a century ago, though unlike others, it wasn’t to find a better life. The Atwoods were a well-off family, strong in magic from their homeland. The migration came at a time when the new world was still flourishing and the magic of the country was ripe. They sought a peaceful life, along with prosperity and innovation, and upon hearing about a little town where the supernatural dwelled unharmed and in harmony, a branch of the Atwoods decided to call it home.

Born and raised in New Orleans, James is the eldest of the Atwood siblings. Though he has spent a large amount of time abroad with other factions of his family in Ireland, he always returned to call the French Quarter his home. A prominent name in the society of witches, the Atwoods— and James specifically— are well known for their helpful nature and their powerfully strong, warm magic. The Atwoods have always prized knowledge and subtlety over the flaunting and hoarding of power, as a teacher of magic, James takes that to heart. For decades he’s spent his time devoted to teaching the younger generation of witches the techniques needed to control their magic and keep it prosperous.

A man of morals, James takes pride in his work and treats everyone the same no matter their lineage or heritage. He’s never been one to stick strictly to the coven witches; before the segregation of the supernatural creatures, James was known by others in the community as a helping hand and a listening ear. He didn’t have the ability to teach magic to the wolf cubs, but control of magic and control of shifting often came from the same unstable place. Help was something he offered freely.

When the war started and the witches and the wolves parted company at the behest of the hunters, leading to the coven betraying their alliance, James was the face of a small but vocal dissenting minority. He remains the voice of reason to this day, as much as he can. The coven has changed in the time since the war; it’s no longer accepting and understanding like it had been when the Atwoods first joined. War has changed it, blackened it and rotted it. With the leader of the coven a power hungry and selfish witch, James needs to advocate for tolerance and cooperation more than ever to plant the seed of defiance in their followers. The war isn’t over, but the stalemate isn’t likely to last forever, he knows this. They all know this. It’s only a matter of time before the war starts again. When it does, he knows where his loyalties belong.

Other distinguishing features: Vaughn wears a battered gold band on the fourth finger of his left hand, the medals of several saints on plain cords and chains around his neck, and a rosary and a broken watch around his left wrist. His upper body is liberally decorated with monochromatic tattoos.

Personality: Vaughn has never believed in luck, but there’s no denying that things usually break his way. Embroiled in either his business or his beverage, he seldom appears interested in the goings-on around him, yet has an uncanny knack for being at the right place at the right time. Planning ahead just enough to make it all seem effortless, the speed and accuracy at which he operates (when he can be arsed) often comes as a shock to those witnessing it for the first time. To the hunting community, he’s a living legend. To the supernatural creatures he hunts, he’s a nightmare. To all others, he’s simply an likable local, his accent mostly faded and his laissez-faire attitude textbook New Orleanian.

History: Vaughn’s exact origins are a mystery to most. Saying he’s from a large Catholic family in Ireland doesn’t really narrow the range of possibilities, but it’s all he’ll willingly divulge. Rumor has it he began his career as a soldier of fortune when he was just fifteen years old. Against the odds, he survived, and eventually found his niche in smuggling and arms dealing. It was a line of work that brought him into frequent contact with beings that supposedly didn’t exist. In fact, some of his most lucrative contracts were with vampires, and he was comfortable turning a blind eye to their machinations as long as he was getting paid.

He’s known, always, that it was a high-risk, high-reward venture, but naively assumed it was only his own life on the line. Unfortunately, the supernatural underworld is a dark place, and when it comes to power plays, it seldom discriminates. Vaughn was out of the country on business when his wife and two young children were murdered. When he discovered that the killings were not a retribution against him but against his employer, by a competitor, something inside him snapped. Forced to reconcile with how many innocent lives he himself had played an indirect role in ending, he began to break free of the tangled web he’d submitted to ensnaring him years ago.

Initially, Vaughn’s intentions were only to avenge his family, assassinating the kingpin responsible for handing down the order and as many of his vampire lackeys as possible. That alone might’ve seemed like a suicide mission, but years spent in the presence of such creatures apparently made him very good at killing them. Legend has it he accomplished his goal in less than a week, and after meeting similarly aggrieved parties decided to continue his crusade against the evil beings that saw human lives as dispensable. His efforts led him to New Orleans, where he still resides today, ensuring there’s at least one place, one city, that’s free of such murderous, meddling influences.

Personality: Taraglen Kamdyn is a mixed bag of personality traits. She’s frenetic and hyper most of the time. She’s bubbly and happy but also someone that has no trouble telling someone off. She lives on coffee and other people. She loves being active and social. She makes friends easily and fast and is often ride or die for them. Once she decides someone is her friend there are no limits that she won’t go to for them.

Prone to nicknames, Tara often has an arsenal of them in her back pocket for her friends and people she meets. They typically stem from interactions or observations she has with the person. Try not to be offended, she doesn’t mean it to be mean. She’s small, both in height and weight but do not be fooled by her size, she takes no shit from anyone and will put someone in their place if she decides it needs to happen.

History: The youngest of the Kamdyn clan, Taraglen should have grown up in the shadow of her older sister. Instead, she grew up mostly an only child. At a very young age, her sister was sent away and Tara was let on her own with two parents that were at times far too protective of the small witch. She had never been a fan of the overbearing behavior, learning to fend for herself and toe lines only when she absolutely had to.

Her mother was strict and unyielding while her father was a pushover. It was a dichotomy Tara had no time for. She had been told so many times about the fire that nearly killed her, the fire that her sister had started. Her mother was so quick to blame Xera, but Tara, for as young as she was, had a feeling that a five-year-old couldn’t possibly have made a conscious effort to kill their sister.

She still didn’t really know why or how she had survived, but she’d always suspected that it had something to do with the fact that she was a water witch and not an air witch like most of the Kamdyn’s. She could control the wind, much like the rest of her family, but the water was where her strength lay. Water was an ever-changing and yet stagnant element. It stayed exactly where it was and destroyed anything in its path at the same time. Large canyons had been created simply by the sheer persistence of water.

This was often how Taraglen approached life, in truth. She was not a person that backed down. She stayed where she was, immovable and expected people to move around her. A tomboy while growing up, Tara played rough and tumble and garnered respect from her peers. She pulled no punches and often made her feelings known in grandiose ways.

As she grew up, life changed a little. Her sister came back and some of her best friends left. Not because they were no longer there, but because of the change in the way the supernatural world worked. She watched as those from the pack she went to school with were pulled away and she we left trying to find a new group of friends. Gone were the rough and tumble guys that she could play football with. Gone were the boys she got down and dirty with. She was left with the society witches and had to find a way to fit in. She found makeup and clothing and cheerleading. She found popularity, which largely stemmed from her looks and her last name.

Taraglen missed her old friends, but she made a name for herself and used it to propel herself into other circles. By the time she was 18, she was off to California where she had been accepted to design school. By the time she had graduated, Tara was already tucked under a big name designer and working for a company that specialized in interiors. She’d always had an eye for making a space gorgeous and had finally found her calling.

While away, she found other things she enjoyed as well. Still the tomboy and up for anything, she found herself enjoying outdoorsy things like rock climbing and cross country running as well as things that kept her in shape like boxing and martial arts. Perhaps, though, her favorite of past times was tattoos. A small woman in a very prestigious line of work like she was, most would expect that she would remain professional in how she looked, but it was Taraglen and she always did like to cross lines.

Personality: She’s a petite wisp of a thing, and on the surface her personality reflects that. She’s shy and quiet, timid at times, her wide eyes taking in far more than she comments on. With those she’s close to, she’s sweet and affectionate. Part of her drive to please people comes from her past, but naturally she’s is legitimately caring and compassionate, with an inborn empathy that makes her gentle and sympathetic to the struggles of others.

There’s more beneath that naive surface. She might come across as an ingenue, but that belies the sharp intellect that lurks beneath. Phaedra’s a quick study, able to discern patterns and motives if she puts her mind to it. She’s a survivor, and she’s stronger than she’ll admit to herself. One of her most useful attributes has been her ability to adapt, to change herself to fit the situation she finds herself in. There’s depths to her that she hasn’t begun to explore; she’s locked them away, her curiosity tempered by fear. But as she’s coming of age, it’s becoming harder to deny that she’s more than soft and demure.

History: Phaedra wasn’t born a Salveggio. It’s unusual—a witch, the adopted daughter of a werewolf, especially in times like this. But she’d say it’s the only life she’s ever known. She was rescued as a child from a group of hunters who were using her for her powers, and the wolf who found her fought to keep her within the pack, knowing that she had nowhere else to go. Slowly, he became a father to her, and the pack became a family—most of it at least. Some of them never became comfortable with having a witch in their midst, taking their cues from their Alpha, who while she was never cruel to Phaedra, also never accepted her as a real part of the pack.

There was some calls to have her returned to a proper coven when she was a young teenager, but though the Alpha considered it, her adopted father wouldn’t hear of it, putting his foot down and insisting she stay. Phaedra was grateful for this—the wolves are the closest thing to family that she remembers, and ever since her time with the hunters she’s been wary of humans, mistrusting them. She doesn’t remember being with other witches at all, though it stands to reason that she had to have a family once Even once she turned eighteen, she showed no signs of wanting to leave the pack that had taken her in, opting instead to stay with them, working as a healer for the pack and their allies.

Though she’d been given every opportunity to pursue other interests, it’s healing that she’s always seen as her calling. It comes as naturally to her as breathing, and she’s worked to hone that skill as much as she can. Her other powers are either absent or neglected. Her other pursuits mostly revolve around the academic: she’s a quick study for languages, collecting them one after another with quiet determination born as much from curiosity as any real need.

She’s currently leading a careful life, not engaging in much beyond her duties as a healer. Her father has been encouraging her to branch out, and she realizes to some degree that she’s been clinging to the safety of the pack, afraid to venture outside it’s borders. But as she puts more distance between herself and her childhood—most of which she insists she doesn’t remember—she’s started to toy with the idea of doing something more. What that might be, she hasn’t figured out.

Personality: Maya’s always been a fighter. She’s willing to stand up for her what she thinks, and has in the past been a bit rash to make judgements, though as a leader she attempts to not let that affect her as much. Her heart is her family and her pack, and she’s constantly attempting to protect them. She’s loyal, but also stubborn, and can be slow to admit when she’s misjudged a situation or made a mistake. While she can be cool-headed and capable as a leader, when it comes to her personal life she’s far less put together. Relating to people has been difficult ever since she became the alpha, and she tends to just not try at this point, keeping a cool distance. Her sense of duty is strong, as is her desire to prove herself. She keeps all her doubts and insecurities tight to the chest, not letting anyone see her as anything other than a confident leader.

History: Maya St. Romain grew up as pack royalty. She was the alpha’s favorite granddaughter, taken in at a young age and raised as his own. He realized her aptitude for leadership by the time she was a young adult, and started grooming her to one day become alpha in her own right. He didn’t go easier on her because she was his family—if anything, he was tougher because he knew that she could be great and thought that being soft with her would be a disservice. And his training worked. Maya’s very young for an alpha, but on the whole she’s been successful.

She never expected to take the position this young. She’d thought she had decades in front of her to prepare, but then a war started. And the man who raised her was dead. Filled with grief and uncertainty, but also with the solemn determination not to let anyone else take this from her, she won the challenges, took over as alpha, and tried to lead them through a war that was quickly going off the rails. They put up a heroic fight, but after the witches surrendered, they were just outnumbered—and their numbers were dwindling every moment.

After a few staggering defeats, Maya couldn’t take it anymore. She withdrew her pack to the bayou and set upon a new strategy, one of lying low and regrouping until they were strong enough that they wouldn’t keep bleeding numbers. She wasn’t going to lose any more of her pack when there wasn’t a clear victory in sight. The pack took in many young wolves who’d been displaced, trying to regroup and rebuild. It took a toll, to lose so many of there members, and that toll was felt especially by the pack’s alpha. She’s perhaps overly cautious now, not wanting to take any unnecessary risks, but at her heart she only wants what’s best for her pack. At times she still has doubts as to whether she was ready to take up the mantle of command, but she’s devoted her life to this pack, and she’ll continue to do it up to the bitter end.

Personality: Jade is mercurial and an excellent manipulator. She realized long ago that if she changes her personality to reflect what people respond best to, it’s a lot easier to get her way, so that’s what she’s done. Typically, she comes off as sweet and vivacious, if a little vapid and materialistic. She’s always down for a fun time—the worst thing in the world to her is boredom. She also has expensive tastes and appreciates the finer things in life, but if need be she can change her whole demeanor on a dime. The price just has to be right.

History: Once upon a time, there were two hunters who dedicated their lives to eradicating the world of the supernatural predators who make humans their prey. They fell in love, and as is the way of the world, a baby came along. But they had no time for a little girl. The child was raised with indifference, until one night when the hunters realized that there was no subtler weapon than a child, and that perhaps she could be an asset rather than a burden.

But that was long ago, ancient history better left unsaid. Few people know who Jade’s parents are, and they’ve parted ways long ago. Jade didn’t give up hunting, though. As she got older she developed a knack for it, and started taking on more and more difficult cases, trying her hand and wanting to see how far she could go. That started netting her a nice paycheck, and she discovered that she really liked getting paid.

She’s not native to New Orleans, but it’s a place where people are willing to pay top dollar to get rid of their supernatural enemies, and Jade doesn’t have any sort of moral code that would stop her from taking advantage of that. She herself doesn’t have any grudge against supernaturals, but she does have a talent for killing, and at the end of the day it’s all about the commission to her. She has few acquaintances, keeping most people at arms length — though some don’t realize it, given her multiple personas. For now she’s planning on staying in New Orleans until she gets bored enough to move on, or until the money dries up — whichever comes first.

Full Name: Nicoli ‘Nico’ Salveggio Occupation: Pack Beta/Primary School Teacher Species: Werewolf Age: 502

Personality: As of right now, Nico could easily be described as a gentle giant. He is large and imposing with a deep voice and a glare to make anyone cower, but he has a laugh on his lips most days and the smile he offers lights up his face. He’s warm and calm. He’s often happy and laid back. When he’s working, he’s soft and kind. The kids mellow him out and give him a reason to be something he never was. Human.

While he is kind and gentle, there is also a savagery about Nico that most see. It’s why they shy away from the glare. They don’t understand his savagery nor do they know the kind of man he truly is, but they know It’s still there. He’s still the warrior he’s always been but he lacks the war to channel that need. He wants to be fine with that, but living on the line of neutrality is creating within him an ache. The wars he fought, the sides he stood on were all for the little people. He was a good guy but he’s left it all behind. If you chose no side then you chose the side of the oppressor.

History: 500 years is a long time to live. 500 years means a lot of things done and even more things seen. Not much is forgotten in that time but a lot is learned. Survival is the greatest skill of all when it comes to natural selection. If there is one thing Nicoli Salveggio knows better than anything, it’s survival. He has been many things in his numerous lifetimes and he has done and seen many horrors that would put weaker men to shame. He has none, though. While he is not proud of what he has done, he is not ashamed because, in the face of adaptation or death, he did what he had to.

Born in a remote area of the world no one even remembers the name of, Nico grew up in a typical family for the time but his family was anything but typical. In a settlement of farm hands and hard-working folk, the Salveggio’s were the only hunters of the land and the only ones to bear the wolf gene, his family was one of a kind. While the villagers tilled the land and planted the crops, his father hunted. The best the town had ever seen and he did it all by himself. They never asked how and the how was never offered up. The town fell on hard times as so many did back in those days. Nicoli was the youngest of 7 siblings and the only one to reach the age of wolf maturity. One by one disease and the elements took his siblings from him yet he persevered.

When he was of age and his first shift finally happened, he gained the strength and the ability to heal. His father, leader of their little pack taught him everything he knew, but Nicoli was not very good at listening and he wanted to see the what was beyond the borders of his village. Not a difficult task to be had considering the wars of villages around them had started to bleed into their lands. He took up arms and defended his land and village before moving south and into other territories. Nicoli found something he was good at that wasn’t just hunting for food to sell to other villagers. Nicoli was good at fighting and killing. He was good at using his bare hands to take what needed to be taken and end what needed to be stopped. For years he moved around, adapting to his new surroundings and learning how to survive. Wars came and went and with it Nico followed. His hands are covered in the blood of wars long since past and not so long past.

Red is a color he is used to seeing on his hands.

Even now, years after he’s hung up his title as a warmonger and hired guns, red is a color that stains his knuckles. He’s a warrior at heart and always will be, but he spends his time teaching and not killing now. When he needs the taste of blood coating his tongue and the feel of bone breaking under expertly thrown punches, he finds himself in the gym working over the punching bags or in a few of the sparring rings training a new class of warrior for the pack. The taste for blood is a strong desire that he’s never been able to fully walk away from, the pack he lives with now is docile, almost house trained. It’s an unfortunate side effect of letting fear rule them. He understands it, though he does not like it. Their dwindling numbers and their adult to children ratio heavily influence how much they can achieve, but one day that will all change.

History: Roman is a born wolf and one of the only surviving members of the now defunct Canadian Pack, which relocated to New Orleans shortly before Savoie debacle and the resulting purge. His parents (alpha Liam and den mother Sonya, respectively) moved the pack to escape a pestilential war for territory that had claimed too many of their members and now threatened their only child. Unfortunately, after just three peaceful years in the United States, their small clan was targeted by hunters. His parents were killed in one of the very first ambushes, after holding off the attackers as long as they could so that others had a chance to slip away.

Like many other orphans of the time, Roman was eventually adopted into the Pontchartrain Pack, which withdrew from the city and regrouped in the Bayou Sauvage. It is there that he learned how to be a wolf, and a man. Though he was a rambunctious, competitive, willful child, he matured quickly to give back and pull his own weight. He became the defender of smaller, weaker packmates that were often overlooked in the chaos of the pack house. He also cultivated an unlikely but much-needed talent for technology, which he’s since developed into a valuable tool for monitoring happenings within the city and keeping the pack connected to the world at large.

Also able to remotely work for freelance clients that are as a rule ignorant to his true nature, his income helps to keep the whole pack afloat. His obvious penchant for ink might initially seem like a waste of extremely limited resources, but through connecting to like-minded individuals across the web, he’s found alternative ways of paying for a number of things, including his extensive body modifications. His network of allies is small but critical, offering another line of defense when a single tip-off can literally be the difference between life and death.

Tulane University in New Orleans was the first acceptance letter she got back and the only one she needed to see before she was gone. Luckily when she left her parents made the promise to pay her way, which was a blessing for sure. It meant all she had to was call and say she needed something and the money would be placed where it needed to go. Perfect.

Now Midori wanders around New Orleans in her free time, enjoying the slight freedom she has stumbled upon but within the more or less ignorant bliss of her upper class status. She has no idea what she has stepped into and knowing her, she isn’t ready for it either.
