Percy Jackson and the Olympians | Rick Riordan
It’s hard to enjoy practical jokes when your whole life feels like one.
You do not know when it is time to cut your losses. To save a friend, you would sacrifice the world.
Sadly, in any industry and in any work-related environment, females always strive to achieve a certain amount of perfection, whether that be skinny or pretty. It’s a constant, in our society.
A lot of people say if you can’t love yourself, then you can’t love others. It’s always different, but I definitely have loved a lot in my life.
And then I realized that the reason that I couldn’t stop thinking about you was because I didn’t want to.
I ’ v e n e v e r s t o p p e d t h i n k i n g a b o u t y o u .
I wanna spend every moment I can with you.
I got the idea from our family’s plant book. The place where we recorded those things you cannot trust to memory. The page begins with the person’s picture. A photo if we can find it. If not, a sketch or painting by Peeta. Then, in my most careful handwriting, come all the details it would be a crime to forget. Lady licking Prim’s cheek. My father’s laugh. Peeta’s father with the cookies. The color of Finnick’s eyes. What Cinna could do with a length of silk. Boggs reprogramming the Holo. Rue poised on her toes, arms slightly extended, like a bird about to take flight. On and on. We seal the pages with salt water and promises to live well to make their deaths count. Haymitch finally joins us, contributing twenty-three years of tributes he was forced to mentor. Additions become smaller. An old memory that surfaces. A late primrose preserved between the pages. Strange bits of happiness, like the photo of Finnick and Annie’s newborn son.
Michelle, for the past twenty-five years, you’ve been not only my wife and mother of my children, but my best friend. You took on a role you didn’t ask for and made it your own with grace and grit and style and good humor. You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody. And a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. You’ve made me proud. You’ve made the country proud.
“I have been Princess Leia exclusively. It’s been a part of my life for 40 years.”

With this pen I take in hand my selves and with these dead disciples I will grapple. Though rain curses the window let the poem be made. - Anne Sexton
