Fashionista Darlin’

The throngs of people didn’t bother Ken in the least. In fact, he sort of enjoyed the feeling of being in the middle of a crowd where no one noticed him or paid any attention to the kid in very swagalicious clothes. It was very different from when he had been 11 years old and everyone flocked to the boy genius.

A small smile came to him as he started browsing through the store windows; it was safe for him to come out and simply enjoy himself now instead of having his mother shop for him just in case he got mobbed. His dark blue orbs critically judged a pair of jeans before catching a glimpse of someone moving towards him on reflection of the window pane.

Turning over his shoulder slightly, Ken greeted the one who had called him out today. “Hey Mimi.”

Since it was the fall season, Ken had taken his clothing research to a whole new level. His style wasn’t gaudy or attention seeking, but rather mute and tasteful. Classy. He was dressed in a Craig’s dark rinse jeans (slim fit), a white Bertigo button up shirt, and a red Armani jacket.

Fashion. Fashion and shopping. Mimi enjoyed both things immensely—to anyone that actually knew her, that much would be very, very clear. She was always on the cutting edge of fashion and her parents made it a point, almost, that she got what she wanted. Spending so many years in New York City, one of the world’s many fashion hubs, certainly didn’t help her calm down about it all. If anything, it took her obsession to different extremes; after all, for the longest while, she had stars stuck in her hair and used that as part of her usual ensemble… and even more, for a bit, it was pink!

She’d never admit it to anyone unless it was Miyako, but Mimi kind of missed the pink hair. It was some difficult upkeep, but it looked amazing. She looked amazing with it. She had to make a note to go back to it one day, somehow, some way, even if it was only for a short time. But any, so of course, when Halloween came around… Mimi had no trouble going all out.

In New York she ruled the holiday. Here it was going to be the same.

But this year, she needed a sort of partner in crime. And she had the perfect one. Why him, in particular, some might have asked? Well, Mimi didn’t really know the boy genius all that well, but he was pretty. And pretty was exactly what she needed right now. So, she called him, and now she was walking through the streets—wearing things that were fashionable, but lowkey. A pastel pink dress with a red jacket over top of it, cowboy boots, and her (in)famous hat. Her hair was pulled back into a loose, low ponytail.

“Ken! Good, you didn’t flake out on me. You ready?”

He chuckled at Mimi’s greeting, but he supposed that was something she did. He wasn’t quite sure since they’ve never really talked to each other one on one. But as far as Ken could tell from how everyone in the group talked about her, the kind boy sort of knew how she was. “Why would you think I would something like that?” Truth be told, Ken had been waiting for this. In his recent interest in fashion, he wanted to know what Mimi thought of the clothes he had in mind. There were some he was iffy with and he was sure that she would set him straight. Nodding and offering his arm like a gentleman, he said, “Of course. Shall we go?”

Mimi took Ken’s arm. She could definitely see what Miyako saw in him. She shipped it. She totally shipped it, almost as much as she shipped Takeru and Hikari. The imperative word here, at this moment, was almost. She was a fan of the two youngsters together since they were all children… they just clicked, if that made sense? There was no better complimentary couple than the two of them– who Mimi had dubbed ‘Takari.’ If Brangelina could be a thing, so could they.

What would she call Ken and Miyako? Kenyako? Yeah, that sounded about right.

“Well, I don’t really know you very well, to be honest.” She shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know many of Takeru and Hikari’s friends well, but I feel like I know you the least out of all the others. So… you could be flakey! Who knows,” She clapped and started drudging forward– the first stop was going to be a general store, for some skin paint. Hopefully Ken didn’t guess what she had in mind. “So… do you normally dress up for Halloween?”

All he did was smile at her comment. It was quite understandable, really. As he had lamented before, he didn’t know her that well either and this was a chance to remedy that. Plus, he heard that she was quite the chatterbox so if he felt any qualms about keeping a conversation going, he was sure that Mimi would fill that up for him. And he wouldn’t mind simply kicking back and listening to her, offering his opinion whenever needed.

“Haha. That’s alright,” he replied with a shrug. “If you weren’t friends Takeru, Kari, and the others I wouldn’t know what to expect from you either.” In all honesty, Ken didn’t think they would have even interacted if they weren’t the people they were right now. He could have been “flakey” and she could have just been some pretty girl off the street.

Either way, he wasn’t flakey; he was a gentleman. Ken then blinked as he took in the store they had just entered. This was not where he was expecting them to go into first, and it puzzled him just a bit until Mimi asked him about Halloween.

“Uhm, not particularly,” he said, feeling a bit wary. “I usually dress in my casual clothes.”

“How boring!” Mimi was quick to wave off the idea that he didn’t dress up for Halloween-- because most people did, right? She supposed she might understand those that didn’t, but, really… Was that always the best idea? She couldn’t say. She couldn’t imagine just sitting around at some party somewhere in casual clothes. That was just not something that the chosen child of purity could even consider, let alone actually go through with doing. She nodded her head though, and let out a bit of a humming noise.

“So would you say that this is your first time? At least since you were a kid?” She looked him up and down. He was taller than Takeru somehow, so that was… a thing. They were the same age, but he seemed to have grown more. She guessed that had something to do with the fact that he was an athlete, or at least, that he used to be. “I suppose we can try the Halloween store that’s right down the street first and foremost. Get some skin paint to start with…”

The Greatest Time of the Year

A party! This was Mimi's first time being back in Japan for the holidays, though she had tried to be back at least once or twice before now. Her parents were never falling for it, they never wanted to pay her fare and allow her to come back home... she supposed that she got it. She was sixteen, she got money, even if she didn't agree that you couldn't spend it on things that were... well... frivolous, she guessed. But this year... this year she could go all out.

Ken wasn't holding his Christmas party this year, and she had heard from Sora, Hikari, and the rest that this was something that he liked to do ever since he and the others were fighting against MaloMyotismon and had been first welcomed into the Digidestined. It was really the first time that he got to know the older crew, but Ken was going for something different this year, so decided to opt out. He was still trying to figure out who he was.

So Mimi decided to throw a party. A [i]Secret Santa[/i] party. Basically, she went around to everyone that said they were going to be attending and passed out little strips of paper with names on it. She made sure that no one got themselves; and in the end, she took the last one. Ken was the one that she, herself, got. His gift was sitting under the Tachikawa's tree at this very moment as she hung a bit of mistletoe in the archway that lead into the kitchen.

Mimi had went all out. That was just the finishing touch.

"Everyone else should be arriving any minute now. All right!"

Jou only wanted location recommendation. That’s literally it. He didn’t expect Mimi to practically tell him he didn’t look good enough for a date (in more or less words) or that he needed some serious work. And yet, for whatever reason, even though he could ignore her and refuse to list, he was here with her - a hand wrapped tightly around his wrist as he watched the two girls giggle with each other.

“Ladies…” He breathed. “Is this all really necessary?”

Though, when he was met by two sets of eyes glaring back at him, he realized it was a bad question to ask. If he wanted to get through this, the best way would be able to keep his mouth shut and let them do what they wanted.

Even though Jou felt like he dressed well enough and he was good enough company. He thought his friends would feel the same.

Was this taking a bit far?

... Probably. Jou had only come to Mimi to ask for her help with talking to girls-- some sort of nonsense about having a girlfriend, something that Mimi hadn't yet been able to verify in one way or another, so she just 'chose' to believe that it was true even if she still had great doubts about it. She probably would until she met this girl face to face, if the truth was to be told.

But he asked for her help, and he wasn't specific. Mimi knew what he had meant, but she made a decision to take it her own way because it was about time that Jou stopped running around in his school uniform everywhere. Sure, it was appropriate for just about everything other than going to the bath house or going to the beach, but it was so... so... boring. Jou could do so much better than that, even if the haircut he had three years ago said otherwise.

And why was Hikari here? Second opinion, and Sora was unavailable. So she got the next best thing!

"... so, Hikari, have you heard from Miyako lately? I haven't seen her since the Halloween party and she seemed pretty freaked out by Ken in drag. I never got to explain that it was my idea," and she didn't regret it, either, but she hoped that she hadn't scarred the purplette for life after that particular incident. And Hikari would know better than most people if she had: she was, after all, Miyako's best friend.

Then Jou asked if it was necessary. And slowly, she turned, glaring at him-- mostly for show. "Jou, you can't go on a date in your school uniform. It just doesn't make sense."

Was Mimi at all surprised that it worked? Nope, not one bit. It wasn’t like this was her first rodeo, after all; she was more surprised that Sora seemed to be able to actually do something like this without screwing up out of nervousness. She loved Sora, Sora was her best friend, but Sora could be a tiny bit of a stick in the mud sometimes. It was okay. Really, they balanced each other out. When Mimi was going too far, Sora kept her grounded. When Sora was being a stick in the mud, Mimi dug her out.

Without actually digging, of course. That would have been gross. As they entered the club, Mimi felt reinvigorated– it had been a long day and now they were unwinding perfect. Sora, of course, had to insist that they would be leaving sooner rather than later. “Calm down, sis!” Mimi teased and tossed her a wink, linking her arm with the redhead.

“Look, I promise that we aren’t going to drink and that we’re not going to be leaving this place with any strangers. This is strictly just for you to let loose and have some fun– now come on, shut up and dance with me!” She shouted over the roar of the bass, and winded further into the club, taking Sora by her hand and pulling her along. Mimi’s hips gyrated to the beat and it was as if she was in her natural habitat.

She wasn’t sure that she could say that much for Sora, but she hoped that it was something.

Sora narrowed her eyes at Mimi as she spoke. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Mimi, she was just…cautious. And rightfully so, in her opinion. “Fine,” she muttered, as she let MImi drag her through the crowds of people.

Sora watched as Mimi easily immersed herself into the music, not missing a beat as she jumped right into it. Sora glanced around, noticing everyone around them seemingly finding it as easy as Mimi. They all looked like they didn’t have a care in the world, as if nothing else mattered. Sora supposed that was why Mimi brought her here, hoping to have the tennis player feel the same.

Sora gently swayed her body in beat with Mimi, feeling awkward as she did so. As many concerts as she’d been to, people would’ve thought she would be used to dancing in front of people, but she couldn’t help but feel self conscious every time she did.

Mimi put in this much effort to try and help, so Sora decided she was at least going to try, Mimi just might have to help her along the way, just this once.

Sora. Oh, Sora. She was so out of her element in the here and in the now, as the bass bounced and the lights strobed. One might have naturally assumed that Mimi's mind lied elsewhere, and if she were here for any reason other than the one that she had brought her friend here for, it most probably would have been. But she was a woman on a mission right now. There was a reason that she was here in this club, and she was all of five-foot-three inches tall.

And more than that, she didn't seem to be fitting in all that well yet.

Cocoa eyes centered on the redhead as she danced awkwardly, trying to fit into the groove of the club, and honestly... kind of failing miserably. "Oh, honey..." Mimi whispered in a tone that no one could hear over the sound of the music, and she was just fine with that.She didn't want to draw attention to her friend when there was no real reason for it yet, and she had so far avoided embarrassing herself.

So, Mimi swerved through the crowd again, bumping a guy away from her almost playfully in the process, though he had probably thought that she was going to dance with him. And any other time, she might have. But what do we say to the god of dance when our best friend is in crisis? Not today.

Soon she was in front of Sora. She nudged her, gently. Just to get her attention. Then when she turned towards her, she grabbed Sora by her hands and started dancing. She mouthed,

'Just copy me.'

That game was intense. Mimi sighed, plopping down on her bed. Michael was fast asleep by now in the living room. Sora had texted her to tell her that both she and Hikari had gotten homes safely, but Mimi could tell that Sora was unhappy. Hikari was hurt. That game was a disaster. She dialed Hikari’s number and lifted the phone to her ear. It took a minute, but she answered. “Hikari? Sweetie? Are you okay? I’m sorry.”

Hikari tried to smile while thanking Sora for walking her home, but came out more as a grimace so she stopped. Giving the older girl a hug, she wished her a safe walk home before closing the door and slowly heading to her room.

Just as Hikari shut the door, her cellphone rang. She picked up without even checking the caller ID.

“Hello? Oh Mimi, I’m… I’m okay. It’s not your fault, don’t be sorry.”

"It kinda is. Sorta. What... what was bothering you?"
