One Sunday my son was pretending to be a frog after church. So, I added some raisins to his peanut butter sandwich and called it a peanut buggy sandwich. He loved it and asked for it again the next week and the next, sometimes with honey, sometimes with black beetle jam. After a few weeks of this, I decided to get creative and I turned his round sandwich thin into a beetle by adding carrots for legs and antenna, raisins for eyes and cutting slit partway across the top piece of bread. Thus began the mostly weekly tradition of turning his sandwiches into something else. After doing this for several months and sharing it with my friends and family, people kept telling me I need to share it with the world (at the very least OroWeat might be interested in what I was doing to their sandwich thins). So, finally, I have relented. I hope you enjoy looking at them as I enjoy making them, though to be honest, I really only care about whether my boys enjoy eating them.
Well, R got potty-trained this week. So, to honor the big accomplishment the boys got potty sandwiches. You can’t see the inside of the toilets, but rest assured they are filled with honey to simulate the toilet water. They had a ton of fun dipping their bread into the toilet water before they ate it.
And below is a picture of them making the sign for potty (make the letter T (for toilet) then shake it back and forth).
If there is one food B loves more than peanut butter sandwiches, it is pizza. (Well, I think he probably likes ice cream and cookies and cake more than peanut butter sandwiches)
So, I combined the two. The pepperoni is made of strawberry skins, the cheese is rice krispies, and the sauce is strawberry jam. The crust is of course an Oroweat sandwich thin with peanut butter and honey inside.
Since spring has sprung, we are seeing many more of these little buggers down by the creek and in our yard. Why are dragonflies called dragonflies? They’re not very dragonish as far as I’m concerned. Do you think they are called dragonflies for the same reason house flies and horse flies are named the way they are? If so, there be dragons here.
The dragonfly was made 2 weeks ago. Last week we moved on to dragons!

Let’s just say, I think the boys liked the dragons better than the dragonfly. Here they are pretending to be dragons:
It wouldn’t be a blog if it didn’t have a backlog of posts that the blogger has not yet gotten around to posting and then decides to do so all at once.
I’ll actually schedule them to come out over the next couple days. Enjoy.
1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, [Mary Magdalene and the other Mary] came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
So, I am a little bit excited. This blog is getting some international publicity. Not much. In fact it is quite obscure, so let’s see if you can follow.
I make these sandwiches with Oroweat brand sandwich thins.
Oroweat is a subsidiary of Bimbo Bread, an international corporation.
Bimbo bread has many divisions in different countries.
The Bimbo bread division in Spain has a facebook page dedicated to the product they call “Thins” not “Sandwich Thins” like in the US, just “Thins.”
This facebook page shared some of our pictures and provided a link to the blog. So, give them some love for me and go to their page and like their post.
As an Arizonan I do not get daylight saving time. It does not make sense, and based on the number of memes floating around facebook, most people are not big fans of the policy. Which makes me wonder why it is even still a policy. Well for this daylight saving Sunday, B & R both got clocks.
I wanted to get back to making animals. I was very happy with how the eyes turned out, and then I was even happier when B asked, “How did you make the eyes so mean?”
So, the night before this sandwich, we had gone to a local park to have a campfire with my sister’s family and all her in-laws. It was a fun night, nice and cool with a warm fire. The boys had fun roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.
In the run up to Easter, I decided to get in the spirit. But when I put it down on the table, B thought this Easter egg was a monster with three eyes and claw hands. Everyone is a critic.
When I presented B with his bunk bed sandwich. He smiled then, turned to me and asked, “Where’s the ladder?” So, I ran over to the cutting board, and made a quick ladder with carrot rails and skewer rungs. Then he was happy.
The pillows are celery, and the blankets are fruit roll up.
The reason for the bunk beds is that just the day before, they got bunk beds! R was no longer sleeping on a crib mattress on the floor, and they were both so happy.
R didn’t get a bunk bed, he opted for crackers with hummus for lunch. But B was nice enough to share one of the fruit leathers.
And here is a picture of the boys in their new bunk bed.
