a lone gem descends as droplets would,    though no noise is made on impact.  lost within the blankets,   no doubt,   but it’s touch remains.    brushing her cheek,  she feels the ghost of her tears linger.   “   i’m sorry—  ”   memories haunted her dreams,    horrible nightmares that seemed endless,   repeating over and over again regardless of her wishes.    yet,   she felt numb upon awakening.   she wished to resign in ICE.   the comfort of nothing brought forth just that,   however.   nothing.    a state she despised.    she couldn’t bring herself to dissociate from her pain,    instead she choose the harder path.   to move forward.    even so,    yukina wasn’t aware that she spoke in her sleep,  and the thought was worrying.    what has she said in front of the other girl  ?  she didn’t wish to trouble her.   “    i hope i didn’t wake you.   ”   a chill creeps in,    yet the cold air is not responsible for her cradling arms.    an ice maiden could not suffer from the cold.    “   please  …   excuse me for a moment…   ”   she did not wish to burden anyone,    she only needed but a moment to compose herself.

“    are you sure it’s okay to be doing this ?   ”   she can’t help but sound hesitant.   would it be so bad to relax and celebrate  ?   the others had won their last match,   but so many were still injured  …  though her healing had worked wonders on kazuma,  which still surprised the apparition since these abilities were only recent in learning.   she glances to the door.   was it really okay to have fun this soon  ?   the other girls didn’t seem to have the same concerns,  which helped to ease her growing worries.   botan especially had caught her attention.   it wouldn’t of been easy for any of them to witness the things they did,   but they never lost their good spirits.   warm smiles greeted her,   botan’s energy radiating and seemingly bouncing across the enclosed room was contagious.   it felt good to relax.   with a small smile of her own she gave a short nod,   excitement finally becoming her.  

“    in that case,   it couldn’t hurt.   thank you so much for letting me stay.   ”   she wasn’t sure what a sleep over was,   but the others seemed enthused over the idea.

   He wasn’t sure what he was more surprised over. The formal introduction or the ask for help. One reminded me of the time he had in the Meikai when it still stood, the other simply took him back from thinking it wasn’t something someone would even ask him. (did he look like someone that knew his way around finally?) But finally settling those thoughts and feelings aside he smiled to her before giving a small bow back to her.

thank goodness,   she sighs to herself in relief,   that she’d been so lucky to stumble upon him.  the air is calm,   a simple breeze without the cold flurry she was so used to  (   would she have noticed if it was cold  ?   for she was immune to such icy chills  )  helps set her with ease.  more often then not,    those she met were always so kind to her.   knowing this,   it brings a small smile to her face.   “   thank you ever so much  !  ”   yukina was truly in his debt.   “   i’m a bit embarrassed to say.   i usually know my way back  ...  but i must have missed a turn,   i’ve been walking in circles ever since.  ”  sheepishly put,   though her fluster isn’t present in expression,  as eyes remain thankful,   humoring her own mistakes with a soft laugh.

not at all.    truthfully,   it had been another sleepless night for the kōrime.    dreams that haunted her sleep,   or simply nights where she’d refuse slumber,  encasing her cage in frozen ice.    a five year cycle so repetitive,   it was hard to break the pattern.   instead,   it was a lonely night,   where she’d pray for rest and instead cast her gaze to the night sky.    trapped  (   but no longer trapped  )  in a room of her own,   laying in comfort and warmth.   she had the freedom to leave.   it was a reminder she sometimes had to tell herself,    and in this case,  show herself.  

honestly,    she hadn’t heard him.    it was a chance encounter.    the night’s breeze was comforting for her,   and his presence only startled her for a moment before he finally spoke up.   “   no,  not at all.   umm —  may i ask,   what you’re doing up so late ?  ”   though the question of why lingered on her mind as well.

yukina is an abnormal when it comes to the kōrime because of her warm hearted nature.  she was affected by her mother’s relation with the fire demon,  though he isn’t her father  (  since she was conceived by hina alone  )  the fact she shared a womb with her twin of that nature means she went through a different type of birth.    my headcanon is that because hiei is a fire demon,  his presence in the womb is what made yukina less COLD while she was growing.   that her heart would have been FROZEN OVER and she’d of been no different to the other kōrime who would close herself from others and live with little to no feelings.  so really,   it was thanks to hiei she was able to live a happy life  :  )  because i love pain.

at her words he freezes, back stiffening and shoulders tightening. it isn’t that he dislikes time spent with his sister with yukina — it’s the opposite. he enjoys her company quite a bit ; which naturally means he isn’t allowed. she deserves better than him, better than a criminal for a brother. ( better than someone destined to destroy everything he touches. ) but, all the same, he can’t say no to her. he turns to look at her ( at yukina, at his sister ) and forces his mouth into something akin to a frown. ❝ what is it ? make it quick, i have somewhere to be. ❞  he doesn’t, but he can’t let himself spend too much time with her. ( can’t let himself ruin her. )

“   if it’s   ...   not too much trouble,   i was hoping you could stay.   ”  always so far from reach.   something that wasn’t unusual,   so she’d been told,   so she’d witnessed herself on multiple occasions.    even a heart so FROZEN can ache,  though for what reason she isn’t sure.  “  please.   just for a bit longer.  ”  before he had to leave again.    she felt perhaps she was overstepping boundaries  (  he had somewhere to be.   it was unfair of her  )  but in truth,   she found her days up in the forest to be lonely.   yukina was used to isolation.   it didn’t always mean she enjoyed it,    not after being around the company she keeps.   she was very grateful of genkai for letting her stay,   she didn’t wish to sound unappreciative   ...  but she found herself longing for company.  a luxury she never thought she’d have until now.
