Finally making an official announcement now that the prints are ready. MY SHOP EXISTS! There's some stuff that I was selling last year still there, but all my current stuff is finally updated.

interesting how people assume Pocket Deadlock was CAMAB in the way that they use he/him as a means of misgendering them, which Pocket having been CAMAB would be fine (lord knows non-binary people who were CAMAB rarely get acknowledged let alone if they're not white let alone in a popular video game), but we also know almost nothing about their history outside of their relationship with their family, which doesn't rule out the possibility of someone who was CAFAB and either just looks/sounds like that or who has been on T

but since Pocket's appearance and voice fits some Western traditionally masculine standards, people assume they'd been CAMAB and therefore "actually male"

the converse goes for Venture in Overwatch where Venture's assigned gender hasn't been stated either (and it doesn't need to be), they could very well have been CAMAB for all we know but since their appearance and voice fit more Western traditionally feminine standards, they get she/her'd instead because they assume they were CAFAB and thusly "actually female"

just goes to show how surface-level gender is to cis people despite their rantings and ravings about what "truly" makes someone a woman or whatever

I asssume it is for a couple reasons.

1. They’re the heir to Fairfax Industries and since this is set in the 40s or 50s (I think…) that role is simply not going to someone who is AFAB.

2. They were in an arranged marriage with Mina before their assassination attempt and ya know, I assume again based on the time period that people wouldn’t arrange a “lesbian” marriage even for wealth.

3. Their (birth?) name is Arin. (I didn’t say deadname cause I’m not actually sure that they’ve disowned the name and it could quite possibly be their preferred name and their actual birth name is something else).

And 3. Maybe this is just me being too forgiving of people but I assume not a lot of people don’t know or haven’t picked up on the fact that they use they/them and since they look and sound masc, people default to he/him.

so first of all, way to miss the point of this post and...completely disregard the messaging about transphobia here (because what's primarily being talked about is the deliberate misgendering where people will literally insist they're "a he" based on superficial observations)

second of all, this demonstrates a serious lack of imagination on your part in terms of how Pocket's gender situation could be different to what you're assuming, as i don't think it's that unreasonable to say that Arin could've potentially transitioned prior to the arranged marriage thing in a game where gargoyles, vampires, and sentient robots canonically exist; i don't think commitment to realism irt the 50s is a source of conflict here since those things are infinitely more unfaithful to the time period than the idea of a transmasc Arin

they could also be someone who just has a lot of traditionally "masculine" traits while not having been CAMAB and also not having transitioned, which happens in real life, because i'm one of those people (intersex or otherwise, because i'm not intersex myself)

additionally, most of the cast of the game doesn't misgender Arin, so it's probably their preferred name, since i imagine these people aren't going to be deadnaming them while also respecting their pronouns, and Arin is a pretty gender-neutral name

genuinely surprised to click on your profile and see your pronouns are what they are because this feels like an "explaining gender to cis people" moment lmao, this isn't much different to the arguments that are typically had about the presence of marginalized people in general in certain pieces of media and how "unrealistic" it is but it's always a selectively applied logic since if we wanna talk about prejudice of the time we would also have to talk about the fact that 1940s-50s America is still Jim Crow era, and i don't think the game gives off the vibe of "racial segregation is extremely alive and well in this universe" (no, the demon people don't count)

… Sorry I guess I misunderstood and thought you meant “why do people assume they’re AMAB and misgender them while playing the game…?” I wasn’t trying to argue with you or attack you in any way, I actually liked your initial post about it and thought it would be something interesting to think about. I also just automatically assume people mean no ill intent when I hear them misgender Pocket while playing the game. Sure, if people are intentionally trying to be transphobic about it then yeah, dick move. And I also assume those people trying to do it on purpose are not bright enough to pick up on all cues and lore for it and are only basing it on appearance and their voice, in which you would be absolutely right to pick at (which I guess is what the intention of your first post was and I’m stupid).

not using AI genuinely feels like the rest of the world is experiencing some kind of mass amnesia. if someone says they never use it, the immediate response is that can't be true because "everyone" uses it to write their emails or answer their questions. saw a comment suggesting that not using chatgpt to write an essay is "like the 90s". girl I graduated in 2021 and we weren't doing that! how is it that everyone has suddenly forgotten that they were entirely capable of doing these things all by themselves for their entire lives up until the past few years!! am I going crazy!!!
