How... how many smuts scenes are too much for a story?

I'm legitimately wondering.

I know it started as Shameless Smut, but then Plot Happened, and I don't know if it's just kind of distracting.

I'm not trying to get them to hook up all the time, they just keep finding opportunities and drag me along.
