I was starting to feel burned out but still wanted to draw so I needed a low pressure challenge. And then I saw the slugcat oc generator going around and figured that I love making fun character designs so it would be good to do one or two-
And then I made ten of them. But some of them I really like and this is pretty much exactly what I needed <3 so now it’s time to share them.
Starting with the first I designed but also one of my favorites. Such a solid color pallet and an interesting backstory. Exploding fish cat who “protects” its creator/parent by sabotaging and killing things my beloved <3
Second is one I’m lowkey obsessed with. Popcorn Plant Dusk is such a silly name but PPD’s colors are so nice and the concept of a cat made just to be a pet ego and just ponders life but not very hard because he was made just to be a friend and thus it can’t really think too hard actually tickled me.
Next this is red centipede. Her name doesn’t fit the best but damn I love her. It was so fun to design how it would be able kill/incapacitate and carry/collect miros vultures of all things. And rye colors slayed.
And another one I really like! Like I’m crazy over him, honestly. The angst of this rainbow cat delights me. And the idea of a creature eventually befriending him or working with him enough to see him without the cloak only to realize he’s rainbow as hell is so fun.
Next is a relaxed critter but for a different way. I kind of like xir concept more than how she actually looks because I like the colors but I liked the sketch way more before adding the colors. I think I’d like the color pallet better on a different design- or maybe it just needed another color or two. But I still like the concepts.
But now another design I liked more before the colors but still like. I think they’re silly.
As a break from the tiniest bits of negativity. Here is one whose colors I love a lot. My curious and aroace cat scholar friend!
Then the other watermelon kitty. I actually made them before the prophet but, while I like her more, she feels comparatively tame design and story concept wise. I still adore her though. Lonely but hopefully singing kitty ToT (maybe she could have a fun dynamic with the angry if they ever met actually)
And now I present the bigender sly beastie this prompt turned into.
And as our last (but not worst) creature to showcase- the modest. A beautiful and lovely color pallet and a very whimsical concept. I don’t think I actually gave xem pronouns so I guess it uses any- but leans towards xe/xim/xir types of neopronouns? Because I like that for xir for whatever reason. Not my favorite sketches by a long shot but the design itself and the colors are sone of my favorites. Without the limited pallet I might have played more with the paint aspects but I do love xim.
And that’s all for today! Sorry it’s so much at once since that makes it harder to give feedback but I love them. I actually only ended up limiting myself for ten designs in two days because that’s the image limit for one tumblr post. It was a lot of fun. I recommend it to anyone who needs a way to just be loose with something artsy for the sake of helping hopefully avoid burnout or anything like that.
My slugcats <3 I haven’t made many slugcat ocs (or ocs in general but the few I’ve made semi-recently where all iterators and one of them’s slugcat) because I have struggled with the ideas and investment into my own ideas for years now but this also helped with that I suppose because I’d love to maybe do more with at least a few of these sone day.
