The responses to the mpreg reddit post are wild, actually. It's one thing to kindly point out the fact that the language excluded trans man and intersex folks, and another thing entirely to immediately get angry and start throwing around accusations of transphobia. Honestly feels like a very bad faith reading of the post. I think people would be a lot happier if they saw something like this as an opportunity to open a dialogue/offer some education rather than as an opportunity to get angry. Sorry you're getting so much flack!

I feel like people bringing up trans men are completely missing the point of this tbh. I'm a trans man myself and the sentiment here isn't "only women can get pregnant," it's "anyone seen by conservatives as a woman is affected by the conservative men's politics"

The point of the post is "mpregging cisgender men is a stepping stone to gender equality" because those are the men that see anyone capable of giving birth as a woman. The post even specifies "non-gendered in an ideal world" at the beginning.

(I also don't really enjoy the idea of referring to myself getting pregnant as "mpreg." The connotations of mpreg to me are that individuals who are cisgender and male are getting pregnant, which is not something I would fall under)

Personally I take more issue with the phrasing of the hypothetical. "If men could get pregnant, gender equality would be easier."

This 1) excludes trans and intersex men who can get pregnant by saying that men are incapable of being pregnant, thus insinuating they aren't men and 2) perpetuates the idea that pregnant men are purely hypothetical.

This leads to situations where when pregnant men get attention, they're called disgusting or not real men, and also not given the proper care that they need. Trans men are horrifically under researched. We straight up don't know a whole lot about the effects of testosterone hrt and pregnancy. Also, this is a hypothetical scenario that is unactionable.

Basically: the point everyone is making isn't complaining about trans and intersex men being included, it's that these hypothetical scenarios keep real pregnant men from getting the help and advocacy they need, and also that this hypothetical isn't actually getting anything done. It might be for the memes, but intentionally or not it's reinforcing transphobia and intersexism.

I completely understand what you're getting at here and that's my bad!! The goal of reddit as a forum is to garner discussion and so my thoughts were something like "resources and avenues to help trans men give birth will naturally show up because I don't really know any myself."

I understand the exclusionary language and I will 100% be more forward to include trans men by name in the future. It was not my intent to exclude and I apologize.
