Outdoor digital signage roots.
From roadside electronic billboards through to wayfinding kiosks in open air shopping malls, outdoor digital signage has grown so fast and now audio visual integrators are looking to use 4K projectors in outdoor locations for the same end.
In the early days, the roadside billboards usually displayed electronic lettering, now these billboards are in full color and have video as well as images looping round to form the content. This is all down to the technology advancements and this is why projection outdoor advertising will take over display advertising.
Wayfinding 5 years ago consisted of digital printed signs pointing in various directions, but this quickly developed to now being able to click on an interactive display, choosing the destination and then receiving step by step directions to your cell phone all in seconds. Now this is progress!!
Outdoor digital signage for bars.
Bars need to advertise, so they can fill the bar on quiet days, but how? Well some integrators are using projectors outdoors but they soon found they needed protected an outdoor projector enclosure to provide the correct level of protection.
Now bars can put their High Definition projector into an outdoor protective housing and it will be safe from theft and most importantly the weather, at the same time promote their venue and this in turns gets bums on seats and increases revenue for the bar – even on quiet days!
The manufacturers of these protective housings make them to accommodate projectors up to 30,000 lumens in standard, they make custom units for the very end of 40,000 to 60,000 lumen projectors. So the protection has to be very good, when the projectors are priced at $60,000! Just imagine if the housings security was breached because of poor locks and the projector was stolen – what would happen?
Some manufacturers offer insurance on their product, so should anything go wrong it will be protected under the insurance cover. You need to check to this out as you don't want to leave anything to chance.
Remember to also check where the projector has to be mounted and make sure the environmental housing has a suitable mounting bracket supplied, as some of these units weigh over 60lbs and a standard projector mount may not be strong enough. One unit has a very innovative mount that can be used to mount to a flat roof and the same bracket can also be used to mount to a wall on a cantilever and even mount the projector vertical all in one price!
