“laziness” is such an incredibly ableist concept.. wtf does it even mean? “can do a thing but chooses not to because they have a bad character”? can you really tell if someone can or can not do a thing just by watching them? no, you can’t. there are a lot of factors, physical and mental that can impact someone’s ability to do a thing, which are completely invisible to anyone else (executive dysfunction, arthritis, chronic pain, depression, ADD, and so on and so forth). 

it breaks my heart to see my friends calling themselves “lazy” or “useless” when any of these things stops them from doing the things they want to/need to do. that’s what they have repeatedly been told they are. that’s what I’ve been told I am when I was too depressed to leave the bed.

don’t call things ‘lazy’. don’t call yourself or others ‘lazy’. my quality of life and my self worth have improved significantly after I deleted this word from my vocabulary. (as an added bonus, I’ve become better at expressing myself, because I have to be a lot more precise when I can’t just dismiss something/someone/myself as ‘lazy’)
