werewolf who is cursed. A man during the day and a woman at night. Only a fated mate can save them. In it she feels like a woman but I’d be down to read a male version too. In the thing, it was a reincarnation one where her alpha was her chosen mate but he betrayed her blah blah blah by falling in love with someone else.
Oh. Obsessed. So what we're doing in this one is I'm gonna let y'all tell me if Werewolf Reader is really a man or woman. I think I'll let this one be poll ran! Haven't done that in awhile. Also I got another ask where they said that the Reader was the Alpha's Beta so I'll include that.
I love this because, no matter which way, Reader is trans, the way that intersex people can be considered trans. I feel like it could bring up a lot of queer discourse, and hey, perfect for Pride month, right? Another thing for Pride month but this one I won't be doing early uploads on Patreon like the other two new series.
When you woke up in your bed, air filling your lungs, you nearly sprang out of bed. Hand flying to your chest where, moments ago, a blade had been. Where blood had been filling your lungs.
It took a moment through the delirium of pain to recognize where you were. In your childhood room. The wallpaper hadn't yellowed yet. There was no peeling. Nothing to indicate that your family had fallen to ruin like it had after you married Alpha Rowan. When your parents had been accused of treason. When you had taken their whippings to spare their lives. For years, your back had ached from those scars that had never healed properly, but now, there was no dull, throbbing ache. In fact, you felt lighter than you had in years.
It had taken that long for you to recognize your own body. Your male body. That you hadn't been in in years, because the mating mark on your neck had bound it. As if on instinct, your fingers traced your marking spot. Blank. Bare. Rowan's bite hadn't scarred there yet.
Tears welled in your eyes. Your chest tightened. Had all of that been a dream? Were you going mad? Or had you been reincarnated?
"Y/N! The Alpha is calling for you," a young Omega said as she ran in, her eyes downcast but she stumbled. "He said it was urgent Pack business."
"Fine," you gruffed, trying to hide the shaking of your hands. "Fetch me a breakfast to take with me while I dress."
"Yes Beta," she said, bowing her head before scurrying out.
Your heart was pounding in your chest as you got out of the bed. Your body felt strange. Heavy. In your male form, you were taller, more muscular. Women laughed that your jaw was sharp enough to cut glass. Part of you had always liked your male form. It brought a lot more attention than your female one ever had, then again, no one knew your family name when you were in your female form since you had to hide it. Your family wanted a strong heir. Needed a strong heir. It was rare that you even had gone out in your female form for fear that you would be recognized, but when you had, you were hardly spared a glance.
When you were done dressing, the same maid that had made the announcement met you in the hall, extending the small lunch bag in her hand. "Here you are, Beta. Safe travels."
"Thank you," you nodded, taking the bag.
"Y/N! Hello! Rowan sent me to fetch you. He said that you were taking too long," Rowan's younger brother, Asher, called the moment you stepped outside.
He was closer to your age than Rowan, and the two of you had been close before Rowan had picked you as his Beta. After that, you hadn't had much time to spend with him. Seeing him now, you couldn't help but smile.
"Ash," you dipped your head, your hands at your side to show respect for the Alpha's family. The nickname slipping out like it had since you were kids. "You didn't have to come get me. I can find my way there."
"Trying to get rid of me again? What kind of friend are you?" he scoffed, drawing a wider smile from you.
"I would never be rid of you. I'm sorry for being busy. Let's go hunting together this weekend," you offered, unable to hide your smile.
His light eyes snapped to yours, flicking over your face. "Yeah?"
"Yeah, as long as I don't have any Pack duties, we'll go hunting this weekend," you promised.
The smile that spread across Asher's face was almost bashful. A flash of his fangs as his wolf pushed closer to the surface. "I'll hold you to that."
"Then hold me," you retorted with a mocking tone, making him laugh.
Before he could respond, another set of footsteps sounded down the stone pathway. Both of your eyes turned to meet one of the most beautiful women the Pack had ever known.
Alya was making her way towards you. Every hair on your body stood straight up. In your last life, this was the woman that Rowan had cast you aside for. She was known as the Pack's blessing because she had been born on a full moon, with hair as white as the moon, and eyes the color of the night sky. So blue they were nearly black. Long ringlets cascaded down her back like flowing water, and, rumor had it, that she could even manipulate water. It was believed she truly had been granted the Moon Goddess's blessing, hence her name.
"Beta Y/N, I'm sorry for the intrusion," she said, bowing her head as she came to you. "I was just hoping to speak to you about a problem at the Pack's borders. The Alpha said you run the front lines against Rouges..."
"Yes, I do, and I would be glad to discuss this matter with you later, Miss Steppen, but the Alpha has called on me and I'm already late," you said, your voice formal. Stiff.
You had to remind yourself that she was not the one who had broken her vows to you. From what you remembered, she had even rebuked Rowan's advances for months until her wolf weakened and she relented while she was half mad with heat. It disgusted you then and now how Rowan would taken advantage of a vulnerable situation just to get what he wanted, but after that, Alya had fallen pregnant. What choice did she have but to become his appointed lover? No other wolf would have her for fear of Rowan's wrath.
"Alright. Tomorrow at noon?" she asked, looking up at you through her long, pale lashes. It used to irritate you how she always did that to you and only you. Why wouldn't she just look at you properly? Even now, it still did. Was she mocking you? Did she find you repulsive? It was infuriating. Yet you nodded. "Wonderful. Thank you, Beta. Until tomorrow."
"Goddess, she is stunning," Asher whistled after she had walked away. "I hope my mate is as mesmerizing as her."
"Aren't you still taking the scent blockers? You'll never find your fated mate with them," you muttered, making your way towards the carriage that Asher had brought with him.
"You know just like your family, every ranked family has to take them. Father fears that we will ruin the Pack if we are led by instinct," he sighed as he climbed in after you.
"Then why would you wish for it?"
Asher glanced around before whispering. "The Lycan king is considering making them illegal, so all of us might be able to find our fated mates soon, by order of the King."
