Bad Future Bowuigi thread time, let's go. ⏳💪 From everyone else's perspective, one day Luigi wakes up... different. He's quieter. More withdrawn. His memory is spotty, like the last few days have been a blur. And he's not asking Mario for help with anything, which is odd.
Some people might think Luigi being more independent is a good thing, but Mario knows it's not like that. They both help each other all the time! This is really weird. It's like it doesn't even occur to Luigi to ask.
Mario gets REALLY worried when he notices Luigi disappearing during the day.
After asking what's wrong several times and always being reassured everything is fine, Mario finally resorts to following Luigi on one of his "walks." Turns out he's going to Bowser's castle, of all places. What could he possibly be doing there? And why did it only start AFTER he changed?
From Luigi's perspective, Mario died ten years ago.
They underestimated the villain they were up against. Well… no, they didn't, really, it's just that they couldn't NOT fight him when he was threatening the whole world. But they lost, and Mario died, and so did a lot of other people afterward.
One of the victims was Bowser Jr., and Bowser did NOTHING but seek revenge from the moment it happened. Since Luigi also wanted to stop the villain, it just made sense to team up. And since they were both mourning the most important person in their lives, they understand each other more than most.
They do succeed, but it takes a long time, over two years. There was a LOT of damage done by the villain in the meantime. Once it's over Bowser doesn't really have anything left to live for, but he focuses on putting his kingdom back together because someone has to. Luigi stays by his side.
He doesn't want to go home (what is "home" anymore, anyway?), and everyone's gotten used to Luigi being part of the team so nobody questions it. It's not like Bowser is doing anything bad now. There's no reason for him NOT to stay.
Time passes, and Luigi falls in love with Bowser.
He does kind of hint at it a couple times, but Bowser never acknowledges it. Luigi assumes he doesn't feel the same way and tries to ignore it. Even without his feelings being reciprocated, Luigi still wants to stay with Bowser.
Time passes. They're both… content.
And then, suddenly, it turns out someone has invented a device that can send memories back in time. Just memories, no objects, but that's enough. That's more than enough! If Luigi knew what would happen before it happened, he could stop it! He could prevent ALL of this!
He tells Bowser and Bowser immediately agrees. If there's even a tenth of a chance it could work, he wants to go for it.
And he agrees Luigi should be the one to go, not him. More people will listen to him, and anyway, Bowser is… very different from the way he was back then.
They put their heads together and come up with a plan and a backup plan and and a backup backup plan and about eight hail marys they can try. Bowser has Luigi memorize a message from himself to himself, including several embarrassing personal secrets that NO ONE else knows about as proof.
And then it's time. Luigi straps in, runs over the plans in his head one last time, and bids Bowser goodbye. They assume (hope) that this future will cease to exist the moment Luigi sends his memories back.
At the last moment, Bowser says to Luigi, "Maybe my past self will actually deserve you."
Luigi wakes up ten years in the past. In his old house, in his old bed, with Mario downstairs acting like it's any other day - because to him, it is. Luigi can't even break down, it doesn't feel real enough for that. He can't remember what they talked about yesterday but he muddles through.
He does TRY to act the way he used to, but it's hard. Sometimes he thinks he goes too far and comes off manic. It's really obvious Mario is worried, but Luigi doesn't want to tell him the truth because then Mario will want to HELP. (He never doubts that his brother will believe him.)
Luigi doesn't realize he's not asking Mario for help like he used to, because he's gotten used to doing everything himself. Sure, Bowser was there, but Bowser was busy running an empire. It doesn't occur to him that getting up and grabbing the salt instead of asking Mario who's closer is strange.
So all that is going on, and ALSO Luigi has to go talk to Bowser and convince him to help. Bowser thinks he's lying as a joke or a trap at first and throws him out. But Luigi keeps coming back, and finally manages to get him alone long enough to recite the message from his future self.
NOW Bowser thinks he's a stalker. But still, Luigi keeps coming back, and once Bowser calmed down enough to think about it he realizes NOBODY could have known all those secrets, because some of them happened inside his head and he never told anybody, ever.
Okay… maybe he'll hear him out.
As soon as Luigi brings up the fact Junior died Bowser hears it as a threat and starts roaring at him, but Luigi just sits there and waits for Bowser to calm down. Almost like he's used to this. Almost like…
Hang on. Why did Bowser's future self trust HIM enough to tell him those secrets?
Eventually Luigi gets Bowser to pay attention, and they spend the next few weeks preparing to stop the villain before he can do any damage. All the while the gears in Bowser's head are turning. Luigi seems to know him REALLY well. His habits, likes and dislikes, little things that no one notices.
It's like they've been glued at the hip for most of a decade. And since Bowser knows he'd never tell someone all that embarrassing stuff unless he was absolutely one thousand percent sure they would NEVER use it against him… Bowser decides the only thing that makes sense is if they were married.
He doesn't say anything about this assumption because he thinks Luigi hasn't mentioned it to avoid making things (more) awkward. Bowser has a whole story in his head about how Luigi must be missing his affection SO much and be SO glad just to be close to him.
Meanwhile Luigi is just thinking, "God I forgot what an asshole he used to be."
Through all of this, Luigi hasn't been spending much time with Mario. It's not that he doesn't want to, but he can't relax until he's certain the danger has passed. Luigi keeps telling himself that once it's over he'll have all the time in the world with his brother. THEN he can break down.
Luigi doesn't realize that his strange behavior + avoiding his brother = MARIO breaking down and practically begging Luigi to just tell him what's wrong so he can stop feeling like Luigi is slipping away.
"Is it something to do with Bowser?"
"No, why would it- Have you been FOLLOWING me?"
"I didn't know where you were going!"
"You could have asked!"
"I DID. EVERY DAY."
Luigi still doesn't WANT to tell Mario everything, but he knows that if Mario doesn't understand why it's important he stays somewhere safe, he won't. So Luigi spills. And once he starts it's hard to stop. He ends up telling Mario far more than he meant to. Including about Bowser.
It's a lot to take in, but Mario does manage to grasp that the most important thing is for him to sit this one out. It goes against his nature, and it feels weird to rely on BOWSER to help save the world (even if it's not actually the first time), but he doesn't want to re-traumatize his brother.
"What if I guarded Junior? Then we'd both be safe."
"NO, the two of you can't be in the same place."
"Ooh… Right."
And then it's time. The villain is making his move, and Luigi and Bowser are as ready as they're going to be. It's not EASY, by any means, but they've prepared so many contingencies that the villain doesn't stand a chance.
It's over before Luigi can even process that they're winning.
He goes home. He fills Mario in. He goes to bed. And in the morning Luigi realizes that his brother has officially lived a day longer than he did in the original timeline and promptly collapses.
It's OVER. It WORKED. The future he came from will never happen now… And he still remembers it.
Luigi had sort of been thinking that his memories would disappear once there was no longer a future for them to come from. He felt conflicted about that, because although that future was worth preventing, it wasn't like it was ALL bad. He had a life, he had friends that are strangers to him now.
But forgetting would mean he goes back to the way he used to be. The person he used to be. He feels like he doesn't deserve to live in this world, because he's taking the place of the old Luigi that everyone misses.
It takes a while before he can articulate these thoughts -
but as soon as he does, Mario shuts it down. Luigi is NOT a different person, he's still the same person he's always been. Just because small things about his behavior changed doesn't mean he's not HIMSELF. The only reason Mario was worried in the first place is that he didn't know why it happened!
A few weeks pass, Luigi is doing better and settling in. Starting to feel like he belongs here instead of being an outsider. Then he gets an invitation, from Bowser, for dinner. That's a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. The day Junior died in the old timeline has passed too.
So Luigi figures the invitation is to touch base and figure out if there's any more disasters in the future that need to be planned for. He's looking forward to it, though he tries to manage his expectations. This isn't HIS Bowser.
He's certainly not expecting to be propositioned. Or to say yes.
Afterward, Bowser seems pleased with himself and says, "Bet you missed that, huh?" Luigi doesn't get what he means, so he goes on, "I know we were together in the future. That stuff you knew, I would NEVER tell those things to ANYONE I didn't love."
Luigi still remembers what Bowser said to him before he sent his memories back in time. He'd refused to think about it, because if it meant what it sounded like, that means…
And now here is Bowser, not HIS Bowser but still Bowser, still the man he loves, saying his future self felt the same.
Luigi bursts into tears and Bowser has no idea what to do.
Okay okay bowuigi werebeast idea. A monster rampages through the mushroom kingdom on the full moon, and everybody side-eyes Bowser and he's like, "it's not me this time!" Four weeks later it happens again, and Bowser is like "it's seriously not me, fuck you guys!"
Four weeks later it happens AGAIN and this time the monster gets injured, so the Mario bros roll up to Bowser's castle to see if he's got the same injury, which he doesn't. But he immediately notices that Luigi DOES, and asks why nobody suspects HIM.
Mario gets defensive and says Luigi got injured FIGHTING the beast. Bowser asks if anyone actually saw that happen, or if they just took Luigi's word. And when nobody can answer him to his satisfaction, Bowser proposes a test. Lock them BOTH up next full moon and see what happens.
Four weeks later, they do, and sure enough Luigi transforms… But he doesn't look like what everyone reported the beast to look like. And the same beast is once again rampaging while Bowser and Luigi are fully accounted for. So the problem isn't solved AND now they know it's contagious.
The next morning while everyone is panicking and attempting to strategize, Luigi approaches Bowser privately and asks if anybody knows where Junior was last night. The reason they suspected Bowser is the beast had horns and red hair like he does… but so does his son.
Luigi's gotten the closest to the beast, and he noticed a torn bandana still clinging to its neck. He hasn't told anyone, Junior is just a kid after all, he shouldn't be punished for something he can't control.
Bowser is pissed off but he's grateful Luigi kept quiet, so they start looking for a cure
Turns out Junior was sneaking out while grounded, that's why he didn't tell anyone when he got bitten. He doesn't remember anything that happens while he's a beast, he thinks he's been sleepwalking.
Luigi agrees not to tell Mario anything, because he doesn't want Mario to worry any more than he already is. They'd agreed to search for a cure separately, so Luigi just doesn't bring up that he's technically not doing it ALONE.
The first cure Luigi and Bowser find doesn't work. It was too easy to find, Luigi isn't even surprised, but the interesting part is that it actually does anything at all. Once Luigi drinks it he transforms into his beast shape while keeping his human mind. It's certainly a lot better than rampaging!
There's still a chance he or Junior could be caught without the potion on the full moon, putting other people in danger, so Bowser isn't happy with the solution. The search continues.
They travel to distant locales, mad laboratories, forbidden libraries. This adventure starts to be… not all bad.
Traveling to scary places isn't so bad when one of the scariest people you know is right at your side. And Luigi discovers that being able to turn into a beast whenever he wants kind of rules actually.
I’m back!!!!! I was able to get a response from the person who wrote that one Bowigi fic I went feral over!! They may or may not finish it, but I am happy either way. Thank you so much for helping again!!!!
I would also like to ask if you ever escape Bowigi once you stumble into it. I thought it’d be a one week hyperfixation, but it has been three months and has only seemed to gain traction.

in regards to escaping bowuigi, im sure its possible, but i certainly havent found out how (nor do i want to). ive been hooked since that first trailer dropped and the brainrot never stopped since ^^"
i will say tho that the intensity of it (in my experience at least) fluctuates between creation and consumption. im currently in the consumption phase, and i can hear all my wip fics screaming at me from my pc (i will finish them one day, i swear)
but its defo one of the more fun ships to obsess over ;P enjoy it while the intensity lasts and everything is still fresh, this corner of the internet is small and updates are slow (yet high quality)

So this is a weird idea, but bear with me because these are awesome.
Bowser is frustrated as he is running out of ideas to defeat the Mario Bros. Kidnapping, battling, even karting or tennis, there just doesn't seem to be a way where he could stop them from thwarting him. How could he inflict the most humiliating and final defeat on these two pesky plumbers...?
"I know!!!" Bowser suddenly exclaims, feeling very smart, "seduction!! Forget Peach, I'm going after the Bros this time!"
"Which one-?"
"BOTH OF THEM!!"
Here is Bowser's plan :
Seduce both bros separately
Make them fall madly in love with him
Lead them along for a while
Dramatically reveal the truth, causing a never ending rift between Mario and Luigi as each realises the love of their life has been cheating on them with his own twin! How could he! The drama! The anguish!
Step back and enjoy
Flawless plan, surely! And once Bowser starts enacting it, it actually seems to work! Before he knows, he's so busy planning secret dates with one brother without letting the other know about it, he has to tone down on the kingdom invading business.
Except.
Mario and Luigi are aware of the whole plan.
Even if the bros didn't tell each other everything, Luigi can't lie to save his life and Mario has no concept of discretion, so of course it doesn't take more than a couple of days to realize they've been dating the same (evil, Koopa-shelled) guy.
And. They're rolling with it.
"I mean, I feel a bit bad leading him along like that," Luigi says as he's chilling with his bro on a beach of Delfino Island, "but he kinda started it? Yet I wonder if we should tell him."
Mario only lifts his sunglasses to give Luigi his best "are you really feeling bad for the double-crossing villain who decided of his own free will to star in a soap opera" unimpressed look.
"But as far as preventing him from kidnapping Princess Peach goes, dates with Bowser is more relaxing than running through kingdoms and jungles."
Mario gives Luigi cheeky finger guns in agreement.
"Plus, It's not like he's a bad lover," Luigi admits, prompting Mario to nod appreciatively, "and it's nice to be spoiled for once."
(Does Peach know? My dears, she asks for ~*~details~*~)

This is, so very unlikely, but do you by chance know the AO3 user LoudMouthRaccoon, or where to find them? I tried to search them up on here cause they made a bowigi fic in 2022 and you somehow popped up, so maybe they’ll be something here (doesn’t make a ton of sense, I know, but I’m desperate and can’t find them anywhere else). It’s an incomplete series and I think I might perish if I didn’t at least try to find them

This is not me saying that Bowser has no rizz, infact he’s very handsome in koopa standards and can be very swave when he wants to be. The thing is that his confidence and presentation is the only thing making up his charisma.
I shit you not, bowser will say the most corniest, cringiest, and downright left field shit to you and grin as if he was a poetic genius.
Peach tries not to laugh out of sheer awkwardness because bowser WILL take it as a successful flirt. The only people who have the balls to point out the koopa king’s lack of game is Mario, Daisy, Kamek, and the older koopalings. (Wendy is very mean about it). Everyone else is either too afraid to tell it to the king’s face or is actually caught up in Bowser’s hype.
Now LUIGI is the only of very few people to actually get verbally seduced by bowser. Luigi doesn’t really have any standards of pick up lines, pretty much because he barely gets complemented and even gets flirted on even less. He also find the goofiness very charming. The first time Bowser flirted with Luigi, he got really flustered, and the koopa kings ego grew three times as big to the dismay of everyone.
Luigi: “Mario, He’s not-a THAT bad!”
Mario: “Mio fratello, the princess with her explosive speech is better with her words!”
Now you think that since bowser can dish it out as much as he can take, and you’d pretty much be right. As royalty, people do sing his praises and talk about how hot he is. But you had to see the flabbergasted face of King Bowser once Luigi muster up the courage to flirt back. It was like if a cave man discovered FIRE. Bowser’s entire face was redder than his hair and eyes. Reptile brain full on blue screened. He was hooked.
And no, luigi isn’t this secret love master, he (and mario) just has that autistic rizz. And bowser not having his feelings reciprocated to someone he was romantically interested for most of his life played a big part in that.
At this point it’s a game of quick draw, whoever flirts first makes the other a red puddle of giggles with a belly full of butterflies.
I was thinking in a fake dating AU in which Bowser "dates" Luigi so that he can have someone that collects intel in social gatherings, because people don't really open up to him or near him, but people don't mind Luigi or don't feel threatened around him, so he is perfect for the job!
But then uh oh, someone catches real feelings and i love when that leads to very awkward interactions xD
This took a long time to make and I put my heart and soul into it so let me know what you think!! I'm hoping to have chapter three out by March but its a really big chapter so it will take some time :)
Anyways, this is the start of the comic! I jump right into things so hopefully it isn't to confusing. Also this is pretty much the last time you see Bowser's human form, it's mostly koopa from here on out. This comic will be pretty long so its going to take a long time to finish but I hope everyone will enjoy it! I will have content warnings for the next chapter as things start to get crazy moving forward.
