you go to
movie premieres,
hear your songs
on the radio.
livin' two lives
is a little weird,
but school's cool
'cause nobody knows.
you get to be
a small town girl,
but big time when
you play your guitar.
“hm, yeah you have a point. i think a lot of people can be way into social media for several reasons, can end up being a tough habit to cut down on but that’s just the direction the world is going in.”
“it’s scary to think about, y’know? like, people genuinely think they’re friends with celebrities just because they follow them back on twitter.”
– “I’D AGREE WITH YOU if i knew the first thing about any sort of social media.” ezra shrugged. “your mom has tried to teach me, like, three times but i still don’t really get it. instagram is especially confusing. why don’t they just show the pictures in order? doesn’t make any sense.”
“oh, no, i totally agree. supposedly they changed it so that they’re showing you the things they think you’d like to see first, but how do they know what i want to see if they don’t show me everything?” she laughed softly, shaking her head. “it just seems like a waste of time, honestly.”
THIS is new. a kid, disclaiming social media? huh. “i dunno, i kinda like having eyes on my family and making sure they’re safe. some of them live far away, and if you know it’s fake, it’s fine.”
“okay, yeah, but keeping up with your friends and family is what it’s meant for. have you ever seen some of the comments on celebrities stuff though? that shit is so gross. it’s like people think they owe them their private information just because they’re famous. it’s horrible.”
“I think as long as you realise that not everything is as it seems, then it’s not a problem. I love it though so maybe I’m biased. It’s just the easiest way to stay in contact with people you might not see a lot. And you know… If you do it right, instagram can be the cutest thing in the world.”
“yeah, i think that’s the biggest problem. people don’t seem to see there’s a disconnect between their friends and celebrities that they follow,” crosby shrugged. she knew she wasn’t going to get anyone to agree with her on this. “the cutest thing in the world? maybe if your instagram is dedicated to pictures of corgis, yeah.”
“you and me both, cros.” sam shrugged, “i mean… i feel like instagram is interesting sometimes, but i don’t get the idea of being on it all the time, ya know?”
“exactly! i can see why it’s interesting sometimes to go on there, but some people get way too invested and it’s just creepy. it’s so nice to have someone agree with me, anyone else i’ve said that to just shits on me for sounding too old.”
“Aren’t you a bundle of joy and happiness… Maybe it’s fun to watch everyone live their fake lives. It’s like watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians but less work.”
crosby couldn’t help but eye the older boy curiously. “i guess, but that’s still not great. people have no privacy nowadays, it’s so gross.”
“back in like, the 1800′s, only people who were fortunate and rich enough to hire someone to paint a portrait of them were allowed to own pictures of themselves. displaying photographs of ones self was seen as something only for the wealthiest of people. now, literally, anyone with a phone and post a picture and capture a moment. i think it’s kind of simple and beautiful”
“oh, no, i know. it’s technologically impressive, everyone’s just too obsessed with other people’s lives. have you read some of the comments on celebrities pictures? it’s so disgusting. people really think they owe them explanations for choices they make in their own personal lives.”
“it can definitely be toxic. you just have to be careful about what you put out into the world and what you take back in. it’s a difficult balance to work out and it takes years of practice. i still don’t have it completely down, cros.”
“it’s just so... small in the scheme of things, y’know? like, sure, kylie jenner had a baby and hid it, but, like, there’s also so many other issues around the world that no one cares about. if all those people who were mad that she didn’t tell them her own private information cared about, like, genocide or something, the world might actually change for the better.”
“you look like a kid but you sound like such a baby boomer. like, it ain’t that deep. we know it’s fake, i mean we all know how much it take to choose the perfect picture for the instagram post, so. yeah. it ain’t really toxic unless you’re like twelve and dumb enough to idolize people on social media.”
“it’s not good for people who aren’t twelve and still don’t realize that stuff is all fake. i heard these two girls earlier today talking about how they wished they could look more like the kardashians and they definitely didn’t seem like they realized that they have a team of, like, ten people getting them ready in the morning. i dunno, it just seems so... bad.”
he scrunched his eyebrows at her fully knowing he was the wrong person he should be talking to. his fucking job was literally being a social media influencer, “cynical.” he says referencing a certain blonde that always roamed in his mind. “maybe it let’s them leave what ever miserable life they have. also, i wouldn’t put down the creators on social media there is so much work put in-” he gave her a fake smile, “that you really should watch who you say that to.”
crosby looked over at griffin and his obviously fake smile and shook her head, “never said i was putting anyone down. i just said i didn’t get the hype.”
“just— come on,” mateo let off a soft laugh, motioning for the other to follow him as he climbed atop a closed dumpster in order to reach the side ladder of the old building. “sun’s not going to wait for you to make up your mind, to go down,” he added with a quick wink, before making his way up the side and onward to the roof of the building. “there’s only like… a few spider webs."
“this seems like such a bad idea,” crosby sighed, begrudgingly following mateo up the ladder. “what are we even going up there for?”
“okay, but i don’t understand why people bring their small children to the rink during the summer. i get that it’s free skate but it’s one hundred actual degrees. go to the beach.” sam pursed his lips, “ice skating is for christmas and sport. but never recreational summertime activities.”
“what are you talking about? ice skating is the perfect summer activity. it’s not hot, it’s inside, easy way to cool off and get away from the sun. i’m surprised more people don’t go in the summer.”
“Some grumpy, middle-aged man literally wrote ‘get a real job’ on the tip line of his receipt today, so, that’s how my day’s going,” Shane huffed. “How’s yours?”
“what do you even do? that’s rude. did he leave a tip too or was it just the rude note?”
“i don’t get how people are, like, SO into the whole social media thing. it seems super toxic, don’t you think? people don’t need to spend all their time seeing other people’s perfect lives. it’s all fake, anyway.”
ROWAN BLANCHARD, SIXTEEN, SHE/HER —— hey, did i just see CROSBY walking around the block? i hear they’re from the DANIELS FAMILY and they’re a CHILD who is a SOPHOMORE until they move out. they always look like they’re hiding something…but they’re so KINDHEARTED sometimes i wonder how they can be SELF-DEPRECATING. they certainly can’t be hiding HER DOUBLE LIFE, can they?
hey hey hey here w my second kid!! i never did an intro post for delta but that’s fine. here’s one for cros! sry this is v late i just did a 12 hr shift at work & wan to die a lil bit lol
she just recently turned 16 so she’s probably the youngest in the daniels fam?? could change but im kinda stickin w it? idk
she was adopted by the daniels’ when she was a few months old & while she doesn’t hate her birth mom, she definitely has hard feelings toward her.
she’s always known she was adopted bc she looked nothing like her siblings or parents & when she was younger it was much more of a touchy subject but as she got older she realized it’s not a bad thing to be different and has learned not to give a fuck abt what other people said about her
she never rllly had that many friends in school and was always much more of an introvert. she spent a lot of her recesses hanging out in the classroom with her teachers and writing poems and stories in her notebooks
she got into music when she was around 8 or 9 and was in choir at school. it was smth she wasn’t great at but rly took a liking to. she was never the best in her classes but always had the passion for it. she started writing her own music when she was around 10 and has been writing ever since
she has started to become less shy as she’s grown up and has gotten a lil bit more confident but not rllly that much. she’s still v nervous about singing in front of people alone. in choir she has no prob w it but when it’s just her she gets v shaky
she released her first song a little over six months ago and was nOT expecting anything to come of it but somEHOW it blew up & she was shook like ?? how? me?? and ever since that happened and she heard ppl she knew IRL playing it or singing it she has been one big ball of ????????????????//?
some wc’s for her would def be:
a lifelong best friend who she tells everything to (think: lilly and miley)
a crush that she is v awk around bc honestly? some of the funniest connections out there. she’s my awk lil kid who doesn’t kno how to handle herself in 85% of situations. can b anyone bc she’s openly bi & has been since she was like 11 lmao
unlikely friends. dis one is pretty self explanatory.
distant friend - someone she grew up w. they did everything together growing up but drifted apart once she started working more seriously on her music & got more distant w ppl
