Stop spreading misinformation.
I’ve seen a lot of misinformation floating around my dash lately in regards to the recent Snatcher “discourse.” Particularly, @/snatchersnatched’s post makes blatantly false accusations against me and other people whose actions have sparked this “discourse” into action.
No one is “shitting on other people’s aus.” Poking fun at how absurdly popular something is is not harassment or “shitting on [it].” And absolutely none of us are being “rude” to content creators. Where the fuck did you get that? Is “ahit fandom when (no) has Snatcher” fucking harassment? Seriously? If you’re actually serious that a meme counts as harassment, I’m genuinely concerned.
Now, if there’s really been some quiet harassment going on that I somehow haven’t heard of, I agree; harassing popular artists just because they post Snatcher is absolutely immature and childish. I believe I speak for everyone when I say that harassment of content creators is, indeed, unacceptable. Except, from my knowledge, that’s not been going on. So maybe look a little deeper into the situation before you throw out blind accusations?
(If there really is harassment going on, please tell me. I don’t want to be associated with anyone who is harassing content creators.)
So then what event sparked everything, anyway? Clearly it was something huge and not just a huge over-exaggeration by the AHIT fandom, making straw men of people who want to see content other than Snatcher, right?
Except that’s exactly it.
Being on the other side of this “discourse,” I can tell you exactly what’s been happening. In fact, let me list it.
- Lighthearted fun has been poked at Snatcher’s popularity (see: the sans jokes)
- Jokes have been made about the absurd popularity of Snatcher in comparison to anything else (see: “ahit fandom when haves Snatcher”)
- Good points have been made about Snatcher’s absurdity in dominating the AHIT scene (see: all these posts)
And that’s it. Where you’re getting “malicious attacking of Snatcher as a character as well as those who are fans of them,” I have no clue.
Then what’s the point of it all, you may ask? Let me lay it out for you (since clearly my other posts about this haven’t been able to get the point across).
The point of this movement is not to get rid of and trash the popularity of the current Snatcher content and AUs, but to redirect the AHIT fandom’s priorities so that content creators are not discouraged from creating content other than Snatcher. Many artists and other content creators I know have spoken out about the only content of theirs getting notes being Snatcher. At surface level, this is understandable: everyone loves Snatcher! Of course the content is going to get notes.
But then you take a deeper look at the absurdly disproportionate note count between AHIT posts that are Snatcher and AHIT posts that are not.
Bow Kid (24 notes) / Snatcher (553 notes)
Cooking Cat (31 notes) + Nyakuza Cat (13 notes) / Snatcher (183 notes)
Alpine + Shapeshifter (126 notes) / Snatcher (707 notes)
Alpine + Alpine + Alpine (combined 38 notes) / Snatcher (319 notes)
Hat Kid (68 notes) / Hat Kid + Snatcher (452 notes)
Timmy (51 notes) / Snatcher + Prince (472 notes)
Mafia Boss (57 notes) / Snatcher (727 notes)
Alpine + Hat Kid (158 notes) / Snatcher (1,446 notes)
This is what we’re fighting against. Not the Snatcher content itself, but the disgustingly unequal treatment the AHIT fandom gives to posts that are not Snatcher.
Which takes me to why I’ve been putting “discourse” in quotation marks throughout this post.
Classifying this movement as “discourse” (a disagreement between two or more parties) (the “disagreement” being that people who post anything other than Snatcher shouldn’t be discouraged from creating content) tells me that you don’t care about people who don’t post Snatcher.
I know I’m not as large-and-in-charge as some other people who have made posts about this, but please, please listen to me. I honestly can’t stand seeing this misinformation on my dash anymore.
TL;DR: No one is “shitting on other people’s aus” or “harassing content creators,” and every post that claims something similar to that is false information. If there truly is harassment that I’ve been unaware of, I speak for everyone in this movement by saying such behavior is unacceptable. The purpose of this movement is not to kill the popularity of the current Snatcher content and AUs, but to redirect the AHIT fandom’s priorities so that content creators aren’t discouraged from creating content other than Snatcher.
