Having sex with someone actually is a big deal and involves a ton of vulnerability and I think it’s extremely troubling and gross and unhealthy and actually exceptionally dangerous that we pretend otherwise and encourage people to “be mature” by compartmentalizing/completely eliminating their deeper human emotions from their sexuality and that any other view is dismissed as prudish and invalid and unenlightened and childish and restrictive. I can’t think about this too much because it makes me rage but I hate how much porn and capitalism have destroyed how we understand and experience sexuality and intimate connections with one another so much.

I’ve noticed that many trans identified women have no female role models (who accept themselves as female). All of the music they listen to is by men. All of the books they read are by men. All of the shows and movies they watch have male leads. All of their favourite characters and celebrities are men. Trying to get them to give a single shit about female artists, characters, and celebrities is like pulling teeth. If it isn’t men they’re surrounding themselves with, it’s women who identify as anything other than women, which is usually who their friend groups consist of. And that has to take a toll on your self image as a woman—to look around at everything and everyone you love and only see men, and women desperate to be men. Of course you want to escape being female when you’re only allowing yourself to look up to men and the concept of maleness. When your default human is male, and female is some strange other you never allow yourself to see. My hope for these women is that they at least dip their toes into female separatism. Choosing to make an effort to centre women in my life—in the art I interact with, in the professionals I see, in the people I give my energy to, and so on—has been such a game changer in that it shifted my perspective into one that views female as default. It’s something I think every woman should try, but especially women who have centred men and the desire to be a man so much that they believe themselves to be men.

I'm ngl the recent need to assign every woman an "aesthetic", to put her into a box and label her as a specific "type" of woman (a clean girl, an alt girl, a cottagecore girl, or most obviously, a goth girl) is reminiscent of how women are labelled in porn; infact I'd argue it's pretty much identical. Men use these "aesthetics" to describe a type of woman he wants, as if we're a dog breed. When he says he wants a "goth girl", he means a specific type of woman portrayed in a pornographic light; kinky, bossy, big tits. When he says he wants a clean girl, he's also describing a porn category; he wants a woman who is unnaturally hairless, face caked on with makeup to hide any form of "blemish" but in a way that looks "natural" so he can continue living in the lie that porn has promised him, a woman who appears simple and won't cause much of a fuss, and so will bend to his will. Aesthetics are capitalistic by nature, but they are also deeply embedded into patriarchy; they convince you to focus on becoming a type of woman, while also robbing you of your money and your thoughts at the same time. The men are fucking us over twice with the same idea. Two birds, one stone.

There is no wrong way to be a woman. However you are doing womanhood is correct. You cannot fail at being a woman. The one and only deciding factor of whether you are a woman or not is being of the female sex. Everything else is made up gender roles. Live your life how you want to live it.

It’s really difficult to discuss anything to do with “trans” when the trans community can’t even agree on what “trans” is.

Some people will say that trans is when somebody suffers from gender dysphoria. Others will say that gender dysphoria isn’t required. Both parties will call each other transphobic for their position.

Some will say that trans is whenever you identify as a gender other than what you were born as. Some say that the trans label should be reserved for those who’ve medically transitioned and should not just be based on identity. Both parties will call each other transphobic for their position.

Then you ask them to define what “gender” is, and everyone will have a different answer. Most of these answers will be steeped in sexist stereotypes. Many answers will contradict others.

How can we discuss this topic and base laws around it, when nobody can even agree on who and what we’re talking about in the first place?

Always be hope-pilled. Things are fucking rough. Many of us have experienced horrors that are almost unspeakable. But still there is good in the world. Females from all walks of life organize, look after one another, and advocate for one another. We are beating men in educational attainment, birth rates are going down, more resources exist for domestic violence and rape. And there is pushback to all of this! But we need to push back harder and continue to support and look after one another rather than allow ourselves to fall into despair. I believe in us.
