Just a quick photo manip of a photograph taken at Malham Cove.
Gordale Scar & Malham Cove - Yorkshire - England
[Visited - 6th September 2014]
So firstly I need to apologise for the huge amount of time between my last posts and this post. Basically I've been super lazy and I've not really been travelling anywhere for pleasure purposes.
Last weekend though I traveled with a group of friends to Yorkshire to check out Malham Cove as part of a belated birthday celebration.
The walk up Malham Cove takes about 3 hours, though longer if you are unused to hiking. There are a few slightly steep bits but it's a fairly sedate route for anyone of average to good fitness. When we went it was damp so the limestone paving was wet and slippery which slowed progress and meant we couldn't go closer to the edge so I would recommend going in dry weather, though it's very exposed so if the weather is hot be sure to take plenty of fluid and sun screen, it'll be sweltering up there.
For anyone wanting a gentle stroll you can drive up to Gordale Scar and park about 5 minutes walk away from the waterfall and gorge and it is absolutely spectacular.
Both the Cove and Scar are formed by the erosion of limestone. The Cove used to be a waterfall at the end of the last ice age, which would have eclipsed Niagara Falls. Melt water from the glacier flowed over the cove into plunge pool below.
Malham Cove actually features in Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 1, in a scene with Harry and Hermione as they travel Britain trying to evade detection and locate the horcruxes.
