Rain poured down upon the nighttime city scape, soaking the streets and anyone insane enough to be on them. It was the heaviest they’ve had all year. A real storm, not like the light drizzle they’ve been blessed with before. The sane people were running home or finding shelter from the insistent rain, but of course young love has been known to dive some people mad.
A young man, mid-twenties, splashes into a puddle, dimly lit by the street lamps. It was as though he had been turned into an elementary school kid. The woman, early twenties, yips as the cold water seeps through her stockings.
“That’s mean!” She scolds him, a smile dancing at the corners of her lips. She’s not really cross with him. No. She is already so far gone on cloud 9 to be angry, but her teasing worked.
The man took her hand, laying a feather light kiss in her palm. “I’m very sorry my lady. Please forgive me” With a smirk he glanced up at the woman. Light dancing in his eyes as he pulled her into his arms. He swung her around into the middle of the desolate street, both laughing and caring on as if they were the only two people left on earth.
Suddenly a voice rang out. “You two better get inside quick before you drown!” It was the old man from the flower shop. He waved at them smiling before closing his doors for the night.
Nodding the young man set his girl back on solid ground and waved back. “It’s only a little rain. What harm can it do?” Just then a bright light, and a loud crash of thunder made them both jump in the air. The rain storm had just taken a dangerous turn.
“Maybe he’s right.” Said the woman now a bit shaken.
“We’ll find somewhere safer then call a cab. “ He reassured her, kissing her forehead as he scanned the shops on the street. All had closed up already. Doors locked and lights out. But as luck would have it he spotted something that may just work. Not too far away was a building who’s roof hung over into the alley just enough to provide a dry spot for them to wait. Smiling he tilted the woman’s face. “I’ll take care of you don’t worry.”
Her heart leaped and suddenly she wasn’t scared anymore. Nodding she leaned up and gave him a peck on the cheek for his bravery. “Lead the way then.” Off they went, running a smiling as though they were a prince rescuing his princess. It was a very touching, loving scene. But that all came crashing to a halt.
A scream leapt from the woman’s throat at the edge of the alley. A flash of lightning illuminating the scene before them. There, soaked in rain and blood were two boys. The taller in a blue coat, known very well as the uniform coat of Scepter4. The shorter boy was wearing what used to be a white sweater. Now it was stained red in several spots, the largest running down his arm. The boy in blue had the other pinned against the brick wall, a dagger millimeters away from slicing his throat. The boy in white was only barely keeping the blade away with a beaten baseball bat.
The man quickly grabbed the woman and spun her around, cradling her head into his chest so she couldn’t see. “What’s going on here?” He called out in a brave voice, hoping to deter the boys from fighting.
Slowly, eerily the boy in blue craned his head toward the couple as another flash of lightning struck. His stare was cold and dark. No soul, no heart could be found in those eyes and it chilled the man to his bones.
The blue’s lips parted, “Leave…” he whispered quietly into the rain.
The small whisper was enough. The man grabbed the woman’s hand and took off back down the street. His heart racing to get as far away as he could. The woman was panting, trying to catch a breath unable to keep up with such a pace, but she knew she had to try.
“Should we call the police? That boy! He was bleeding!” Her voice strained over the thunder.
“Don’t you know anything?” He lashed back. “He’s from Scepter4. He is the police. Let’s just get the hell out of here before we get killed too.”
