it is a DIFFICULT case if she’s ever seen one. even the eldest of the torre cesme’s healers, those who have seen PLENTY of seemingly-impossible situations and worked through every one, are scratching their beards at this ; but not all of them are GIFTED with magic, and though yrene is still experiencing with hers ( she was but a child when it was snuffed out ), she’s been given the right to INTERVENE. “ lady nesryn, ” she starts as she steps out of the room where captain westfall lays, comfortably installed, “ i THINK i have some idea on how to get started on— ” her voice dies in her throat as she looks up from her notes and realizes it is NOT nesryn faliq sitting there, but a pretty BLONDE woman. as their eyes meet, memories flash ; to a dirty, cramped little inn in innish, to the dark alley where she’d thought she would die, and to the money an ALMOST-STRANGER had given her so she could realize her dream after all. ( she’s never quite forgotten the PECULIAR hue of those eyes. ) “ you’re— you’re not nesryn, ” she manages feebly.
aelin is nestled comfortably in her seat, slouched slightly to the side with her legs crossed, picking at the DIRT under her nails as she awaited news on chaol. turquoise eyes ringed with gold flashed up to meet those of golden brown. although, the queen of terrasen didn’t need to see her face to recognize the girl she had saved in that RUN-DOWN inn all those years ago, the shyness in her voice and MEEKNESS in her steps were enough to give her away. aelin had wondered occasionally if the girl had ever made it to the torre cesme to realized her dream, or if she had instead ran and SPENT the pouch of gold aelin had given her at the first chance she got.
lips curled ever so slightly at the corners, and she is unsure if it is from the fact that this girl had made here against all odds, or the sheer look on her face when she realizes that she in fact, NOT nesryn. probably both. “ no. I’m not. ” is all she offers before standing, closing the distance between them in a few powerful strides, arms crossing over her chest as her gaze drifts into chaol’s room for a moment before again locking with yrene’s. “ you were saying you had an IDEA of sorts ? ” she asks, brows raised.

he lifts his hands, palms open, in an almost-mocking show of GENUINENESS. “ color me surprised. i’ve never seen you at a LOSS for ideas. ” ilias tilts his head to the side, nodding towards the door. despite the SPIRITUAL nature of the silent assassins’ vows, it is nothing short of relieving to be able to match her QUIPS word for word. “ as you wish, though. have you been drinking enough ? i was about to make some TEA anyway. ” his tone makes it an invitation, his hands gesturing towards two nearby pillows set besides a low table. “ BESIDES, you may want to eat your fill. my father’s summoning you tonight. ”
she snorts in response. although the rest of the silent assassins took their vow of SILENCE rather seriously, celaena was quite GLAD that illias forwent the notion. silent footfalls take her past him and towards the table with which he gestured, plopping herself amongst the pillows as she had done countless times before. “ chamomille, please. ” the smile on her lips feigns HUMILITY as she props her feet up on the edge of the table. his comment throws her, though she knows better than to let her emotions through. instead, a slight tilt of her head in CURIOSITY is all she offers. “ do you have any idea why ? it can’t be to REWARD me for kicking your ass in training, he already did that last month. ”

officially done w finals !! I’ve been awake since 5am yesterday ( it’s 10pm now ) and got like 7 hrs of sleep total since sunday night so I’m going to bed and sleeping for hopefully two straight days but I AM BACK

“ DID YOU ? ” he knows better than to feed her pride, but there is some in his voice as well. after alll, this competition has been ongoing for years now, any development cause toBRAG at dinner. he seems to unfold as he stands, willowy limbs skipping over with DANCER-LIKE grace to properly greet her. “ don’t think this is going to become a habit. you might make beating me in training some kind of REGULAR thing, but i’ll try to keep the races. ” he rufflesher already-messy golden hair in a playful gesture, raising an eyebrow at her. “ i, however, didpromise i’d give you a WISH if you beat me to this one — so go on, celaena, you’ve got onefavor to ask, ” ilias says playfully. as if you’d refuse her anything if she asked nicely enough.
the QUIRK of her lips is the only indication needed ; she knows she has won the fight even before it has begun. celaena admires the way in which he moves towards her, like a sand snake through the dunes of the desert. ( if he is a snake, then she is a JUNGLE CAT prowling through the night ) the blonde swats at his hand in annoyance, though there is LAUGHTER in her blue gold eyes. “ as expected. ” another EGOTISTIC GRIN shot his way. “ I need more time to think up a WORTHY request. my creativity suffers when surrounded by nothing but sand all day long. ”

“You wouldn’t!” She couldn’t. Even though he could swim, he was’t great at it. And this was an ocean… he doubted his powers would do him much good. He huffs and turns away from her, “You are insufferable, you know that?” Time passes as the air grew warmer and Dorian grew restless.
He watches her as she lounges against the edge of the boat, her eyes closed. He was almost tempted to push her over as payback for her suggestion, but he knew damn well she was awake and she was faster than him. Instead he took the time to admire how beautiful she really was— well he’s always known, but there was something graceful in her completely unladylike form. An eye opens and he quickly averts his gaze pretending he’d found something interesting on the floor of the boat. “We should talk about this thing later.” He blurts out and his eyes widen as the air between them stills, “I–I mean we’re almost there.”
the grin that slips onto her lips is nothing short of WICKED. oh, how she had missed pushing his BUTTONS. and how EASY it was ! the queen of terrasen gives no verbal response, her sly smile indication enough that if he so much as tried to toss her over, he would live to REGRET it. a deep exhale is the only relaxation she allows herself, despite her body sprawled out over the row boat, legs crossed and dangling off the edge as they sailed.
an eye opens, a brow quick to arch in response. “ what thing ? ” she replies simply, voice filled with sheer BOREDOM. she didn’t WANT to think about it –––––– the BOND that had snapped into place the moment she saw him and almost knocked her to her knees. she hadn’t THOUGHT much about it at the time, had just chalked it up to the injury that still bothered her from the oh so lovely valg she’d fought in the vaults all those months past. but it was too painstakingly OBVIOUS to her now. they were mates. she wasn’t even sure if a human could even feel the bond, though, she wasn’t going to bring it up and TEST that theory any time soon. “ and how, exactly, do you KNOW where we are going, dorian ? did you take up sailing while I was away ? I have to admit, I wouldn’t PEG you as the sailing type. ”
a brow quirks at the sight of the assassin wrapped in WHITE, the light fabric clinging to his muscles toned from a LIFETIME of training. her own tunic clung to her curves, skin slick with SWEAT and gloriously tanned from years spent training in the red desert. she moves with a FELINE grace, SWIFT and silent as a viper, as she peels the fabric from her face, freeing a mess of blonde hair.
“ I think you’ll find that I WON the race back from the oasis today. ” she may have been raised by silent assassins, but that didn’t mean she was going to abide by their ridiculous rules of NO TALKING. “ it was a VALIANT effort but I saw you stumble three quarters of the way back. ” the slightest misstep on his part, barely even noticeable to an UNTRAINED eye. though the SMUG expression on her face does little to ebb her ever growing EGO.

DORIAN.
Dorian knew it was the hard truth, but it did not mean he had to like it. His people probably sensed him as a coward. Their newly crowned king leaving them to die, even if they were already doomed from the start, they would think he tried nothing to protect them. “Well I doubt they see me that way.”
“Skulls bay.” He nods. They would need all of the allies they could get and with Aelin’s past she was bound to have some favors to cash in. While Dorian himself had nothing. Who would ally with the King of Ardalan? He was different from his father and he vowed to undo all the pain he’s caused, but he would always carry that weight on his shoulders. The hair on his skin raises as Aelin’s shoulder met his, a bolt of electricity running through his body. There was no gods damned way she couldn’t feel that. Regardless of the mate bond, he knew of her feelings for Rowan and he would not interfere. She deserved to be happy. He draws a shuddering breath and smiles, “I’m not looking forward to Skulls Bay. I hate the heat.”
It was that JOLT that sends her into silence again, has her sliding AWAY from him on the small wooden bench. Aelin had suspected that Dorian was her MATE from the moment their magic entwined the day they brought down the Glass Castle, the world shattering around them. It was confirmed when she felt that witch drag her iron through him, and then she KNEW. But she couldn’t bring herself to bring it up now, not until her feet were under solid ground.
She nods. “ Yes. I have a few life debts OWED to me and I intend to cash them all in before this war is done. ” Rolfe, the Pirate Lord of Skull’s Bay. She didn’t have a life debt to dangle in front of him; no, not with the way she had WRECKED his fleet and his city four years ago. The Queen of Terrasen had something else up her sleeve to ensure he would join her cause, especially with that magic map of his.
