i understand why people have mixed views on neopronouns and xenogenders but i think saying “this is why they hate us” is a stretch. yes, it’s valid to feel skeptical and uncomfortable with what you don’t understand, especially in an environment where said practice is socially unacceptable. but this is a cycle. they did it when people started more openly using they/them and when the nonbinary umbrella became more recognized. they did it with binary trans people. they did it with bisexuals. they did it with gay men and lesbians. they do this with interracial marriages, people of color, the mentally and physically disabled, people of different religious beliefs, immigrants, women—people inside and out of this community. this is just that same cycle repeating itself over and over and being hateful towards someone because you don’t understand them is feeding into that. of course not everyone is going to be crazy about the lgbtq+ community, but no one’s opinion should override someone else’s rights, wellbeing, or safety in being openly themself. it literally costs nothing to be kind.
