gen z culture is saying “big mood”, “me”, or “same” to perpetually everything. trash can? me. plastic bag stuffed to the brim with potato chips? same. random television playing dramatic sitcoms in spanish? mood. an edited picture of yoda dabbing over a piece of paper reading “pee is stored in the balls” while onlooking politicians applaud? big mood. it literally makes no sense but everyone does it

Watch: Latina journalist Maria Hinojosa epically shuts down a condescending Trump adviser on the word “illegals”
EAT HIM ALIVE
I watched her speak at my school this fall and absolutely fell in love. She’s an incredible, hardcore journalist who stands for the Latinx community and does a good job of it too.
“Saying that people who are breaking the law are criminals is EXACTLY the same thing that HITLER did to the JEWS” You people are fucking clowns you know that?
Thats not whats being said. Elie Weisel, a holocaust survivor and author, has talked about how germany started labeling jewish people as illegal as a precursor to the violence done against them.
Labeling a person as illegal (not a criminal, but as though their existence itself is illegal) is dehumanizing and othering. It is a step in a bad direction.
“Yeah I see what you’re saying about illegal immigrants but you didn’t word it right you LITERAL NAZI” Yeah no you’re right calling everyone literal hitler is a step in the RIGHT direction
when someone breaks the law by circumventing a nation’s immigration laws they are immigrating illegally. meaning they are illegal immigrants. which you may shorten to “illegals” for the sake of brevity because that is indeed how the English language works.
it’s also how other languages work.
text was never used as a verb until text messaging became a thing. now it is a verb.
“why haven’t you texted me yet?” is a common and grammatically correct sentence.
you dumb cunts are resorting to being grammar nazis in your quest to undermine our national sovereignty. and that is laughably pathetic.
the man was stating true facts and the dumb cunt chose to shut him down by attacking a common and correct usage of a word he used and comparing it to nazi germany.
this is why nobody respects liberals anymore.
Friend, based on your heavy and repeated use of misogynistic slurs, I doubt that THIS event is what made you stop respecting liberals.
Pointing out that calling a person “an illegal” is dehumanizing and dangerous is not being a grammar Nazi. Like, this isn’t correcting a person’s use of its/it’s. We’re talking about the way that language can be used as a political tool, and that to classify a human being as “an illegal” is intentionally othering.
You can, as many do, refer to people who are in the country illegally as undocumented immigrants- which both acknowledges their status and doesn’t reduce their existence to a crime.
Acquaintance, you obviously have no idea the history of Liberalism, and how far the modern political left has dragged it down with marxist bullshit and vapid identity politics like what you have just demonstrated.
“Undocumented immigrants” is factually wrong as most ARE documented immigrants who have simply overstayed their visas. meaning they are residing illegally. the rest who have not applied for visas are still documented in some form or another, either with arrest records, deportation records, or large paper trails of forms many have filled out with fraudulent Social security numbers, making the latter guilty of welfare fraud as well.
you know what we could call them that would be more accurate than both “undocumented” AND “illegal?”
Criminals.
You know, I’ve broken the law. I’ve run red lights. I’ve gone over the speed limit. In college, it wasn’t even unheard of for me to, ~do recreational drugs~ Gasp. I know.
But most people would find it really weird if you looked at me and called me “An Illegal” Because it is intentionally dehumanizing. It is othering, and it is intended to create hostility.
It is my hope that in the future, we have no undocumented immigrants in our country, because being an undocumented immigrant puts people at risk for exploitation. They are vulnerable and largely unprotected. I would rather our immigration policy be reasonable and manageable and effective so that immigrants to our country can all benefit from the protections and regulations we have in place for workers.
Because undocumented immigrants are people. And, despite all the fear mongering, besides the crime of being here without the proper paperwork, undocumented immigrants have very low crime rates. They pay taxes (often income tax depending on how they get their income, and always sales tax.)
The US has always had a complicated relationship with immigrants from Mexico, but we should always be looking for mutually beneficial, humane, and effective solutions moving forward. And dehumanizing an entire class of already vulnerable people is none of those things.
