     ❝Not amusing there Hayley.❞ Kol shook his head not really in the mood for Hayley’s jokes as he leaned against the wall. ❝Nobody that we will miss if it doesn’t get done. Don’t worry it’s no one in the family. Just some random person from New Orleans.❞

    Hayley pressed her lips together into a line. “Hm. Alright.” She hummed as she folded her arms across her face. “What’s so important it’s life or death, anyway?”

     ❝Mom… I’m sorry, it’s just been a stressful couple of weeks you could say.❞ She quickly apologized. Sure she would snap at a couple of people, make some comment, but overall it wasn’t who she was and she did raise her to be better. ❝The whole engagement with Landon, just, overall feelings overwhelmed.❞

     “It’s okay. I can’t fault you for taking after me.” After all, it wasn’t as if Hayley wasn’t known to lash out towards people herself. That her daughter, or any of her children for that matter, had inherited that from her wasn’t a surprise. “Well, that’s why you have me. To help you when things get overwhelming.” There had been a time Hayley couldn’t do that, after her death, but she was never going to take for granted that she could do it now again. “You want to tell me what’s going on so we can figure it out?”

I just thought about what you would do. It’s like you always say: if we stick together, nothing can hurt us.

Your dad just asked if this was a love letter. I guess it kind of is. ‘I never got to know my mother. I have no idea what she must have felt when she carried me. So I thought I’d write to you, so that you could know how happy I am at this very moment. How much your father and I can’t wait to meet you. And I want to make you a promise, three things you will have that I never did. A safe home. Someone to tell you that they love you every single day. And someone to fight for you, no matter what. In other words, a family. So there you go, baby girl. The rest we’re gonna have to figure out together.

    Hayley needed to do a better job checking in with her family. With her children it was one thing, they were always her priority. But the rest, well - the separation was still so new, it was a lot weighing on her. Still, it would be a lie to say part of her wasn’t relieved when she recognized the sound of her niece’s voice. “Isn’t that what mechanics are for?” She asked as she stopped near the front of the car. “Or, a super awesome aunt of yours can take a look. I do know a thing or two.”

     Being on the phone, Kol was just finishing up before hanging it up ❝Just get it done by tonight.❞ He muttered before the click. 

    “Who pissed in your cheerios?” Hayley chimed, her face twisting into slight amusement as she looked over towards Kol. “Better question, who’s getting killed if they don’t meet your deadline?”

     Looking back to who was speaking, Hope felt herself snap slightly. ❝Look whatever you’re saying I really don’t care right now. If it’s really important fine, I’ll listen but I’ve got other things that are important right now.❞ 

    “Now, is that any way to speak to your mother?” Hayley asked, an eyebrow quirking as she crossed her arms loosely across her chest. “I thought I raised you better than that.” She was teasing. Well, sort of. As much as she could when her very arrival seemed to be met with that kind of reaction from her daughter.
