( mahesh jadu, cis male, he/him, 40) ** ♔ announcing BODHI ACHEBE, the PHYSICIAN from PORTUGAL ! upon closer look, they resemble MAHESH. it is a miracle that HE survived the last five years and for that reason, they are AGAINST the kingdoms working together. reflecting on them now, they remind me of CALLOUSED HANDS, CLOAKED FIGURES MOVING UNDETECTED IN THE NIGHT, & EMPTY WINE BOTTLES LITTERING A FLOOR.
Bodhi Achebe was born June 15 to his parents, Malika and Ahmed. Though the family was far from wealthy, they most certainly were not considered peasants. Both of his parents were incredibly dedicated and hardworking, his father working as a day laborer and his mother as a servant to the royals of their country. Bodhi lived a good life, one of love and laughter, and formed very close relationships with both his parents, as well as with his younger sister. Growing up, Bodhi was an adventurous child, always exploring, getting into things, and learning as much as he could about the world around him. There was nothing he loved more than exploration, and while he often found himself exhausted by social interactions, he was able to assimilate easily, wearing somewhat of a mask when it came to other humans.
As a teenager, Bodhi began to turn inward on himself, his antisocial nature taking on a new form. Still, he loved to explore, and spent the majority of his time outside. Some days, from sun up to sundown, he could be found exploring the areas around the village he lived in, despite having lived there all his life. Midway through his 17th year of life, his parents made the decision to move. Work in their village had all but dried up, and his father could no longer stand the ‘lazy’ way life had become (or so he interpreted). So, they saved enough money for the family to board a ship to Persia, setting off for a new life.
A bit later in life, Bodhi was working a day laboring job with his father when he met Abel. Immediately attracted by their intelligence, suave nature, and good looks, Bodhi found himself enamored with the other. It took days, but finally he worked up the nerve to strike up a conversation for himself. What seemed like such an impossible romance commenced, and though Bodhi had some reservations, in quiet moments with himself, when he thought about Abel, and all they’d seen of them, his heart was already too far gone. He was in love. A bit later the two were married, and naturally Bodhi began to imagine the perfect life he might have with his spouse. That dream began to crack early on, however, as Abel began to show more and more of themselves, and their true nature. At first, Bodhi tried everything, doing everything in his power to hold onto the perfect love he’d once believed he’d had. Still, no matter what he did, nothing seemed to work- least of all, desperation. IN the beginning, he blamed himself, believing it was something he’d done- not groomed enough, not submissive enough, not good enough. Though, it wasn’t long before those feelings turned to anger. Anger at Abel’s nature, at how they treated him, at how much of their perfect dream had been shattered by them. And so, Bodhi began to act just like his partner. Having been hardened by the hours of fights, disagreements, exhausted from trying, exhausted from crying and dealing with his ever-breaking heart by himself, Bodhi turned cold. Bitter. A mere shell of the man he had once been. Then, after all of that Abel left. No note, no warning, no word, Bodhi’s spouse left him.
Bodhi began tracking Abel after a few months of pure grief, months in which he couldn’t be bothered to function, or even to act like he was even halfway a human being. Once he managed to track down his ex, Bodhi vowed to follow the other, determined that he would see them receive the same heartbreak, grief, and treatment he’d been left to deal with. Wherever Abel went, Bodhi was, though he purposely remained undetected, taking a variety of odd jobs in various places to ensure he could survive while on his mission. Of course he labeled this as revenge stemming from rage. What he refused to admit aloud, however, was that his quest was nothing more than the fruits of the most horrific heartbreak he’d ever suffered. Still, it was apparent to anyone who got too close to him, as behind closed doors he was a different person, merely a shell, and more often than not, completely drunk.
During his course of performing various tasks and odd jobs, Bodhi became interested in medicine. After taking on an apprenticeship, he was soon able to begin practicing on his own. It was something he enjoyed, something he could channel some of his emotion into, and most of all, something that made sense in ways nothing had since his relationship with Abel had ended. So, he kept practicing, and soon became one of the most sought after Physicians in his area. When he learned that Abel would be traveling to Italy, he sent a few letters and made a few visits, convincing the royal Physician to the Persian crown family that he would be an excellent selection to accompany them on their journey. Strings were pulled, and before he knew it, Bodhi had accepted an offer to travel to Italy with the Royals.
