IT’SSSSSS CRYPTIDSMAS AGAIN FOLKS. Time for a new batch of cards! Wish I’d gone a little harder on the black placement this time, and that watercolor paper scanned better, but I still had a total blast making these.
If any mutuals want to trade cryptidsmas cards, hit me up! This year, I have had the foresight to not be in the middle of fucking moving, so I can be sure not to accidentally miss anyone this time. Non-mutual followers or passersby are also totally free to inquire about a card trade, but I may have to turn you down due to time restraints.
The Black Bird of Chernobyl
In the weeks leading up to the tragic nuclear meltdown, citizens around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Pripyat, Ukraine. Witnesses described it as a large black headless bird with piercing red eyes and large wings. The menacing creature was reported to haunt the area around and within the power plant. On April 26, 1986 in the early morning hours a chain of explosions caused the power plant to have a nuclear meltdown. Radioactive fallout consumed the surrounding area that spread for miles. The explosions and radiation took many lives and forced over 300,000 people to evacuate the area. Workers in the factory who survived the explosions described seeing the winged creature flying through the fire and smoke within the factory. These witnesses would later die of radiation poisoning. The creature was never seen again.
The bird like creature of Chernobyl has drawn many similarities to the harbinger of the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant, West Virginia just 20 years before. The creature spotted there was known as the Mothman. This creature was seen by many people from 1966 to 1967. After the collapse of the Silver Bridge the Mothman was never seen in the area again. Some speculate it is the same creature and its purpose is to warn us of impending disasters or even said to cause them. We may never know what haunted the power plant in the days leading up to the meltdown. But the creature has built itself up a reputation of being a harbinger of death.
