Crystal Week Day 7: Free Day | AUs

Okay. Okay. Seeing the future was one thing, weird and floating but witchy enough that she could find some tomes and papers on it with Edwin's help.

But this? Crystal was not prepared for this. She wasn't sure if this was even real.

Because she was seeing herself, and it wasn't the future, or the past, or the present. It wasn't her, but it was. She knew it in the unexplainable way she often knew things.

She was seeing herself over and over and it was always different, sometimes slightly, sometimes entirely.

Most of the visions included the boys, the agency, Niko, and it made sense. Some were just a glimpse, others felt heavy and long. One Crystal was running with Edwin through a long dark corridor and there was a sense of urgency and dread; another one was kissing Charles and Edwin was also there and the atmosphere was warm, open and inviting; another one was marveling at a place that looked like a Dream; another one was in an entirely new city with different powers, walking through a cemitery and dutifully listening to the dead.

A fair amount of the images had fleeting moments where she was touching, kissing and smiling at Niko. Crystal would have to think about that later.

It was too much, far too much for her to understand. She wasn't sure if any of it was true, if those versions of herself were actually out there living those adventures.

Part of her wanted to stay, to know, to check on it obsessively, but she had her own timeline to live. Each Crystal would have to fend for themselves. From what she could see, she thought they were pretty good at it.

hello i have lots of thoughts about dead boy detectives star wars au and i just think that crystal should be a coruscant socialite that is strangely tapped into the force who gets tricked into doing a dark side ritual with david! and instead of them both getting powers and knowledge from it, he locks her memories away in a holocron and takes the boons of the ritual all for himself <3

Crystal Week Day 6: Celebrations | Hobbies

It's their first Halloween together and Crystal will be damned if she doesn't make it a good one.

Edwin and Charles had expressed different levels of excitement, which was to be expected, and Niko surprisingly has mixed feelings. She is up for all kinds of decorations, but kept quiet when they were discussing a horror movie night. Crystal noticed that she definitely enjoys the holiday, but has some specific limits on the scary stuff.

And so Crystal decided to take it upon herself to curate the entire night so it would be perfect for everyone. She didn't have to do that, and usually she wouldn't, but she had been feeling the need to prove herself to... well, to herself.

She ordered decorations for the office that would make Niko and Charles smile, but not too many that Edwin would complain the whole night about it. She got cute themed cupcakes and other foods for her and Niko, and brought horror themed games — only mildly gory — to keep mostly herself and Charles entertained for hours.

Now, watching Niko get absurdly concentrated on the bloodiest part of one the games, and Edwin moving to fix one of the fallen decorations with a smile, and Charles trying to shove a cupcake on Niko's face to bother her- Crystal feels like she doesn't really know how to properly plan these things. But it works anyway, and that's probably what matters.

Obsessed with the way Kassius Nelson acts out Crystal swallowing the memories. It literally looks like a hard and bitter pill to swallow. Like it tastes horrible and a part of her is resisting against them but she forces it through just like she doesn't really want to remember who she was and yet feels she needs to so she takes them in anyway and Kassius just makes it work so goddamn well

I'd been wondering why they made the choice for her to take the memories into the physical realm after she reclaimed them in her mindscape, which seemed to be where memories would go normally. It didn't really make sense to me that the memories became physical and had to be swallowed like that. But it's for this. Thematically, Crystal taking in her memories needed to be visceral. Private, horrible, repulsive. Painful. It needed its own story beat removed from the win over David. Because the memories first and foremost come with the loss of the image of her past life that she’s kept while staying with the Dead Boy Detectives. It's a difficult and bitter truth. Literally a hard pill to swallow

When I was in Becky's mom's mind today, with all of that grief and that pain, I thought, what if my parents are out there feeling that about me?

I keep thinking about how Crystal asked the Washer Woman I need to know who I am and she meant getting her memories back but the Washer Woman replied "when the earth moves and the bird cries, stop looking without, and look within"

And I know the Washer Woman's focus is on saving lives and the revelation Crystal had there did eventually lead to her being able to reclaim her memories but the fact remains she asked a wise prophet who am I? and the answer was you are a beautiful blossoming tree and you have access to a strong, rich lineage to help you and a great potential to do good

It is not her memories that make her who she is, or her parents, or her name. She's not defined by the environment she grew up in or the horrible things she did in the past. She asked to know who she was and this is the answer. Resilient, glowing, beautiful, empowered by generations before her to be herself and protect others. She really needed to hear that and she’s gotta be so grateful she learned this before getting her memories back. She's a strong and loved psychic medium first, the person she was before second
