Hi, I’m Rubinal! I make silly art and silly little stories :)
I probably won’t post often, but when I do, you can expect it to be fandom content from one of the many fandoms I’m in, or OC content. I also write fanfics, so you can expect posts about them and when they update.
I also post about shipping, but I’m open to discussing a variety of ships, not just the ones I like! (Note: the only ships I won’t discuss are those which are of a minor and an adult, or of siblings. I also will not talk about shipping real people!! Any trafficshipping you see on this blog is explicitly character and story based.)
I’m always open to questions about my characters, stories, or interests as well ^^
More about my interests and projects are under the cut!
My interests:
The Magnus Archives/TMA
The Magnus Protocol/TMAGP
Omori
The Life Series (Third Life SMP)
Undertale
Undertale Yellow
Deltarune
The Owl House
Homestuck
Cookie Run: Kingdom
The Adventure Zone
Night in the Woods
Life Is Strange
Gravity Falls
ENA (original series + Dream BBQ)
Monster Hunter
Projects I’m currently working on:
- Oats We Sow (Omori fanfic, Sunflower, fantasy au)
Essentially: in which it’s a fantasy world, Sunny and Mari’s fight before the recital doesn’t happen, and Sunny meets Basil much later in life than in canon. Adventures and gay yearning ensues. I have been writing this fic since 2021, and post monthly progress updates here on my blog.
Oats We Sow Monthly Progress Update - January/February 2026
uh oh I missed a month
Masterpost - Previous - Next
Hi everyone! Since I missed January’s update, this progress update contains info from both January and February. Enjoy!
Chapter 25/Rugosa Rose progress
Over the past two months, I have written 4,271 words for this chapter. We're nearly at 14k words for the full thing. I feel like if I had more time to write, this would have been done already. However, here we are. Good news: I'm now on the final section of the chapter. Really, all I have to do is finish this bit, and then I get to reread the full chapter, editing along the way.
One thing I’ve also realized now that I’m at this point is that, really, every line counts. Sorta.
I’m not writing a screenplay, I’m writing a fanfic that can be however long I want— and thus, I have room to add some fluff if I really need it or want to. Not every line has to have meaning, sometimes the curtains are blue because I like the mental image and wanted to describe to you the pretty blue curtains so you see my vision. But also, it makes writing drag on. Not just for me, but for the reader as well.
And I think that’s a problem I’ve been having recently. I have a reason for the scenes I’ve been writing. There is a clear understanding in my mind of why I’ve placed them in the story, whether that be building suspense, helping you learn more about the setting, or applying more characterization. The problem is: it isn’t enough. I feel more like I’m following a script than telling a story, and that’s because I need more reasons for what I’m writing.
So, I've tried to remedy that over the past two months. While it's not perfect, I think I've done okay, at least. The final pass will be where all those ideas get fully solidified.
I think this will probably effect a lot of OWS going forward... I have plans from now to the end. I know the general structure of each chapter, they just need meat to their bones and polish. My whole "I need more reasons for these scenes" thing will be something I keep in mind while they're written.
Anyway. More on these 4k words...
While I can't say specifically what they're about, I'll say I'm interested in the balancing act of it. There's several things going on here, and I'm having to keep track of what everyone is thinking. There are scenes where some of them share these thoughts, and some of them don't. There are especially scenes where some of them are conflicted, and not necessarily because they want to be. When I'm working with that, I have to be careful-- there are things happening here that are not good and I do not want to accidentally present them as if they're actually fine and good. But at the same time, I cannot ignore entirely the ideas of what these characters would think on a base level. I think they'll hold some kind of guilt for the thoughts...
On a happier note, there's also several sweet moments. I had a lot of fun writing those bits, playing with what the characters would do, how they would take comfort in little things… There was long analysis that went into it that given the chance I could probably yap about forever. But I’m hoping y’all like these bits :)
Overall, I'm really looking forward to finishing Rugosa Rose up! Hopefully next update I'll have a considerable amount of progress made!
Conclusion
As I said, I'm really happy with my progress so far! I've even gone ahead and started concepting more ideas and themes to play with in the next few chapters! Plus, I'm really excited... There are a few scenes coming up I think y'all will enjoy...
That's really all I have for right now. Thanks for reading, and happy birthday to Mari <3
Oats We Sow Monthly Progress Update - December 2025
WELL,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
OR, WAS IT THE OLD YEAR.
Masterpost - Previous - Next
Happy belated Omori 5th anniversary! Sadly, I don't have the new chapter ready for it, nor the new year and Hero's birthday, but I do have some progress to share!
Chapter 25 (Rugosa Rosa) progress
After a month of being unable to touch Rugosa Rose, I managed to add 915 words to the chapter. While that isn't nearly as much as I've wanted to add, it has been juicy for me in terms of character concepts, and has reminded me just how much I need to replay Omori.
I've had fun playing with what I have, though. And as I sit writing this update, I want to work on more. I'm nearly at the end of the section I'm on, then I'll be moving on to the next few. There's one scene I'm particularly interested in and want to write, I just need to get my brain fired into a state where the words come to me.
I think that's really it in terms of new content, though. There's a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel it. I’m really hoping that once we get there, I can make an update giving a more detailed description of how I made the chapter as well as some of my concept art I drew!
Conclusion
I feel like these updates become shorter and shorter. I need to write more and rectify that.
Regardless, progress is progress. We'll get there soon enough.
Thanks for sticking with me so long! Hopefully January will end with a higher word count.
Happy 5th anniversary to one of my favorite games, Omori <3
While I unfortunately do not have any art to share, I will say this game has changed me as a person and I love it with all my heart. The 100k+ words of fanfiction (and more I’ve written behind the scenes, unrelated to Oats We Sow) should say enough. I’m so glad to have been able to experience the ride of being here until now :)
I feel like every week I see some rendition of the “martin said they’re not together in every universe so guys they aren’t” or “martin’s wrong actually jmart will be together all the time” and I just chuckle
Like… my outlook on it, taking what I know about tmagp into account, is that they do not meet in every universe. They can have completely separate lives from one another if things don’t align to bring them together. But the ones they do meet in? They get together, in one way or another, regardless of first impressions
Multiverses are infinite. There are still infinite timelines where they’re together, and infinite ones where they aren’t. So of course Martin would fixate on the possibilities where they’re not after being influenced by the Lonely
Jon is the one who will pull him out every time. So when Martin meets Jon, every time, he will fall first, and Jon will fall second. Not every life where they don’t meet will be miserable for them, either, because they don’t know what they could have had
Somewhere else, they’re bumping into each other in a bookstore, and Jon is cursing out the clumsy man stocking the poetry shelves as he hurries out. The man doesn’t get to tell him the book he’d been holding got knocked out of his hand and fell into his bag
Somewhere else, Martin’s walking dogs to make some side money and one pees on an unfortunately very attractive man’s shoe. He hastily says he’ll make it up to him, say, with a quick stop by the cafe?
Somewhere else, Jonathan Sims goes missing at eight years old and is never found. Martin Blackwood lives a quiet life working in a library.
Somewhere else, Martin Blackwood doesn’t have a funeral, because no one planned it. Jonathan Sims is curled up on the couch with a cat on his chest, not knowing why the rain feels different tonight
Somewhere else, Martin cannot for the life of him get this poor man’s order right at a coffee shop, because he keeps getting distracted by his voice when he gives it. He just gives up and hands him tea. The man never orders tea, but comes back every time and drinks it.
Somewhere else, they’re both together and apart indefinitely. Because that is the way of the multiverse.
Oats We Sow Monthly Progress Update - November 2025
Aka non-update
Masterpost - Previous - Next
Okay.
So this one isn't really an update. It's a non-update. I have to admit that I've been pretty busy. November just wasn't a good month for fic writing, I fear
That being said, I think I got at least 100 words into Rugosa Rose, but it's so low I'm not going to try to grab a word count for the month. As for the whole chapter, it's sitting pretty right now at roughly 8,945 words-- with still a lot to go. I have a few scenes in mind I still want to work with when I get the time.
Due to constraints, I may be stuck here for a little bit. Here's to hoping that I can get a bunch more done for December
Oats We Sow Monthly Progress Update - October 2025
Crane Wives month?? / YOUR [monthly fic update] IS TAKING TOO LONG
Masterpost - Previous - Next
Hi! Sorry for the wait. I’ve been caught up in a few things college-wise that have kept me from updating. That being said, here’s the OWS update for October!
Chapter 25 (Rugosa Rose) progress
So! I've actually been doing a good bit of work for the chapter! This month, 2629 words were added to Rugosa Rose, and I'm now onto section 5 of 9. I've also jumped forward a bit to write some from later sections, with ideas I've been thinking about for a while now.
The main part of the chapter, the hard part, is over. I'm now mainly focusing on scenes that I've had concepted in a way I enjoy exploring. It'll be a lot to actually make into prose, but I hope it's enjoyed when I'm done with it. The good news is: the sections I have yet to write are not meant to be nearly as long as the previous parts of the chapter, as most of them go together, in a way.
A lot of the rest of the chapter is me playing with character and perspective. How much information does this character have? What about others? What can I expand on from canon that’s relevant, and I may or may not have brought up yet? How can I diverge and make it interesting? I’m trying to push through while keeping those things in mind, and I hope it’s clear when you read the new chapter.
Hopefully next update will come with more information! I see the end in sight... Even if it's still pretty far away.
Conclusion
Short update and slow but steady progress. I really don't have much else to say than I really hope I can get more of this chapter done soon.
I unfortunately also do not have a song for this update, as I can't really find something that accurately portrays the feeling of what's happening right now. Maybe next update..? I'm not sure.
Soooo after the new update, I was wondering if you'll be drawing Awakened White Lily and Awakened Pure Vanilla since there was a lot of Purelily in this new update lmao.
But I was just wondering. No pressure, do what you want! I just love seeing your art and I am so stoked to see how you draw her awakened form whenever the time comes.
Something something looking towards the affirming words of a friend in order to continue moving forward. Something something he will always see the the good in her despite the mistakes of the past.
