Max, Ellis and myselfs final outcome on our live brief. (:
This is a short film I directed and wrote for my AS level film studies. I worked with my friend Rach who filmed. Got an A* for this piece.
Scotland for Independence: Devo Max was a brief given to my group. We had just over a week to come up with a campaign and a debate in which we had to persuade the people of Scotland to go full out and Vote to make Scotland Independent form England. This is a photo of our Twitter, We decided to make a newspaper and call ourselves The Thistle Report. The name cam from the famous Scottish Tree. We had over 800 followers, we wetted daily, hash tagging our secret organisation who was supposedly funding the newspaper called Iron Eye.
For this one day brief, set by Joe Sheilds himself (@josephmsheilds) , we had to come up with how we would we pre mote smoking if we could. Each team was given a brand of cigarettes or tobacco, we had Golden Virginia. According to my team as Alicia put it, we would "throw a goat off a cliff" … and to some degree this is true. We decided to start off at looking at the obvious, what would everyone else do? First things first smoking is "cool", we thought about using inspiring people smoking cigs. This then changed too taking moments such as the Queens coronation and putting a cigarette in her hand. etc etc. We also then moved onto "Five cigarettes a day keeps the doctor away" and "one of your five a day". However after all of this we could still just think of the bad effects smoking has on us, which now people are fully aware of so know matter how 'cool' or 'healthy' it was people still wouldn't do it. This is then when we thought about playing on the word 'Golden'. After mind mapping a few ideas, such as golden eye- james bond and golden years, we came up with the golden eagle. Joe showed us the way the birds hunt, by pulling goats off cliffs and then eating them … so we kinda got to this point throw all of above. Long winded I know. We started thinking about platforming and getting this interactive, for example #betheeagle. And being able to upload your own piss take videos of you being the eagle if you smoke Golden Virginia e.g./ Pulling your mate of a table as you kakar and they baa.
Overall I had an sweet time working with these guys and I would work with everyone of them again. Frome left to right: Jamie, Alicia, Me, Joe, Emily.
For Laurence and Mark at Saatchi & Saatchi agency. Join me for tea?
On wednesday 22nd January, I went to the Mark Denton, D&AD talk. Since being on this course I have never been that inspired. A hilarious night and fantastic talk.
This was taken at Adam and Eve agency when we were presenting our first live brief, which was to create a john lewis sales ad. We decided to go on the fact that mums buy in sales for children to grow into clothes. We used the concept of two adults in a 'perfect john lewis' home. However when they come out of the house you see they are just children who were playing grown ups in a playhouse at school. This was a great Brief and a fab agency.
For this brief we had to watch the 1950’s film the red balloon and then give our chosen object human qualities. I worked with Charlie, Alicia and Jamie. We decided to take the concept of how when you are an alcoholic its almost as if the alcohol is following you. I decided to volunteer to be the actress in the film as it was something I hadn’t done since school. Overall I feel this was a really fun brief and it gave me a chance to try out old skills again.
This was our presentation. We got a C for this project. I feel like we could of explored our target audience a bit better.
For this brief we had to go but something for a £1 from pound land and then increase the value. I worked with Holly on this brief. We deeded to make an "it kit". The it kit would give you tips on how to go proana! We wanted to show how young girls and boys can access all this online so by not doing anything your are basically giving your child one of these kits. we wanted to sell them to bring awareness to the subject matter.
This was a brief set by a third year to get him to stop smoking. We decided to leave a cigarette in water for a week and show what happens. Would you drink this? no? so why do you smoke it?
During the character brief, I went to an exhibition with my class called "cradle to grave". The exhibition showed how many tablets two people in their lifetime took, they had photos and small memorabilia's to support the story. This exhibition really got me thinking about my aunt Jackie who has brain damage and how her traits are different to mine and how people fear her because of her disability.
I started by mind mapping and thinking about what my music reminded me of. I then from this did a lot of people watching and research into my own family traits, I decided to take a few photos of my family members too. Here is one of my gorgeous nan. After all this I started to build my character using parts of family members and things I had picked up on. I wanted to base my characters appearance around my dad as he seems to stand out to people when he is in a crowd.
I then went on to think about how I would present my character. As he had an illness I thought to have a set up of a illness support group would be a good idea. I introduced myself in my crit as a member of staff. I then made them put their heads on the desk and close their eyes and listen to I'm still here by Tom Waits. After this I read an 'extract' from my characters book. (to follow on my writing section when I get it back off my lecturer). I got a B- for this brief which i was pleased about as I really enjoyed myself and was able to write.
For this brief we had to create a person. However as a starting point we were given a song. Mine was "Tous les garçons" by Francoise Hardy. At first I felt that the song wasn't useful etc. however I then decided to listen to it in bed with my lights off and it hit a spark! (scroll up for the rest)
This brief was called "The word brief".
We were all given a word, my word being Solitaire. From this we had to find an original interpretation of the word. I started off by doing some mind mapping on wallpaper. This is the first time I've worked on wallpaper, at first I really didn't like it but soon I got into the flow of things. The word I got to was "Fate". I asked the class if they had a book with the story of there life in it would they read it? For this project I got a c-. I feel this is a fair grade. I don't think this was a great brief for me, I constantly kept hitting brick walls.
Wycombe brief video.
dearoldfriendofmine:
This is the second brief I have been given since studying at Bucks new uni.
The Wycombe brief:
This brief was to help us get to know our new home town a little bit better. We were put in a group ( I was with Emily,Charlie,Max and Miriam), and given a section of Wycombe to cover. Our section had the Rye in. After coming up with a lot of ideas we decided we wanted to show a journey to the rye in the medium of a short video. However we thought that most people in High Wycombe probably already know about the rye, so to jazz it up a bit we found out the icon/symbol for high Wycombe, which is the swan. We then made a load of these stickers and stuck them around the place on our walk to the rye. As a later stage of the brief we wanted to do an online thing like “#you’ve been swaned”, now make your hometown known. When we got to the rye we also made an art attack styled swan. I decided that as well as the film we should document our journey through photographs, here are a few that I tooK (SEE ABOVE). Overall I had fun doing the brief and it was a good chance to get to know the group a bit better.
