What does the C in C-Town stand for? THANK YOU!!!!!!

OK ladies and gentlemen the time has finally come to reveal the “Secret of the C”

But first, lets acknowledge that this tidbit of trivia will launch you into the stratosphere of awesome NYC street cred. You will “know your shit” when it comes to random New York history.

OK here goes;

C-Town Supermarkets’ main supplier for merchandise is Krasdale. (For some “fan luv” on Krasdale visit http://ohkrasdalemykrasdale.tumblr.com/ ) In the 70′s the stores operated as K-Town (K for Krasdale). BUT this was the 70′s and once K-Towns started popping up all over the city in comes K-Mart with a big fat law suit claiming that K-Town sound too much like K-Mart. K-Mart was like Walmart before Walmart.

Soooo instead of spending a bunch of money fighting and probably losing to K-Mart, Krasdale decided to change the name of the stores to C-Town.

Also, all C-Towns are indepently operating and we have run the C-Town on Graham ave sine 1992!

And that’s the whole story folks, kinda interesting but mostly lame.

Dan and I bought a thing called “long ziti” from the local Weird Bargain Store, largely as a joke, but…. I have never had a more unsettling pasta experience in my life. They wouldn’t bend enough to cook from top to bottom simultaneously, and while they were cooking boiling water kept spouting out from the tops of them out of the pot, like a boiling pipe organ. Then they were so long and floppy and hoselike that we couldn’t pick them up with anything other than tongs, and then they were so long and unwieldy that it was basically impossible to sauce them without them all slithering out of the bowl like wet snakes. They then proceeded to cool down almost completely within the the seconds it took to walk to the living room. Eating them was like eating a bowl full half melted drinking straws.
