Having had a major argument with her mother, Punzie wasn’t in the happy mood that she usually was in when she snuck out of her apartment, to freedom. Instead, she was pouting as she starred out the window of the cafe she had stopped in, people watching to try and distract herself.
“You alright, sugarplum?” Charlotte asked, sitting across from her, “If you don’t mind me asking.”

Finishing up his workout, Hans’ chest heaved as he tried to catch his breath from running. His shirt had been removed due to the heat during his exercise, and he smirked as he grabbed his water bottle. “If you take a picture, I’m sure it’ll last longer.”
Charlotte gasped and turned bright red, “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to disturb you,” She smiled sheepishly.

Marie lowered the pepper spray and cursed quietly to herself. She reached out and took the paper, opening it to read it before stuffing it into her bag. “Not important, but thanks all the same.” A winning and friendly attitude was not Marie’s strong suit. “Sorry about this – I’m a little trigger happy these days.”
“Oh, well you’re welcome,” Charlotte replied with a reassuring smile, slightly disappointed that it wasn’t something really important. She didn’t mean to be nosy, she was just used to being in the know about most things. It was second nature. One of the reasons why she asked, “Any particular reason?”

Blood pounded through her veins, her heartbeat thundering in her ears as she began to panic. Even after all this time, being alone made her panic. One man had ruined her faith in others, so when Marie heard someone approaching, she began to freak out. When the other was close enough, Marie whirled around, pepper spray in hand. Lowering the can when she saw who it was, she took a deep breath. “I’m sorry. I thought you were someone else.”
“Hold your horses there, sugarplum. I’m not gonna hurt you,” Charlotte said soothingly, holding her hands up, “I just wanted to let you know that you dropped this,” She held out a piece of paper to her, “I don’t know if it’s all that important but it fell out of your bag so I thought I should give it back to you.”

“Then go with your head, I don’t know!” Tiana knew nothing about throwing parties. She just cooked for them. Speaking of… “Who you got catering?”
Charlotte waved dismissively, “I’ll figure it out. I’ll probably get inspiration at some point,” She grinned brightly, “You, of course! Who else would I ask?”

“I didn’t give you any look!” Adam hissed. “And I’m getting real tired of this conversation, so can you please just drop it.”
Charlotte raised his hands in defence, “Okay, I’m sorry.”

“If you think about it, how does anybody end up here? It’s nothing like New York or Los Angeles – you know, famous cities everybody’s heard about. It feels like Talle Hollow’s a tiny speck on a giant map.”
“Well most people I know who live here were born here. I was. My daddy's great, great, great grandfather moved here and started up the family company. Something to do with the land or something. So I was born here and I don’t know very many people who weren’t.”

“Definitely,” Dorothy nodded. Then, obviously confused, she tilted her head to the side. “I just told you. My aunt and uncle couldn’t take care of me so I was sent away to Talle Hollow. My memories of Kansas are fuzzy, I mainly remember my time in the orphanage here.”
“Yeah but why here? It’s such a small town, it seems a rather random and specific choice.”

“Here in Talle Hollow. I moved here from Kansas when my town was totally destroyed. My aunt and uncle a town over couldn’t take care of me anymore so I was sent here. At least that’s what I remember.”
“Wow, Kansas. That’s quite a different place compared to here, isn’t it?” Charlotte said, “Why did you come here instead of stay there?”

“That’s okay. I used to live in a big house once. Granted, it wasn’t just my house, but it was big all the same.”
“Oh really? Whereabouts was that house?”

Taking a long sip of her rum and coke, Anya continued to grumble about her day at work. “Do you think if I tossed his food at him he’d stop snapping at me? Seriously, learn some common decency. I’m not a dog. Like, what is it with people that they think waitresses are just servants, you know?”
“I think you definitely should. I wouldn’t tolerate that kind of behaviour myself. Especially since my best friend is a waitress. I’d throw something at him if I was sitting at a nearby table if I’m being honest.”

“Well I would absolutely love to!”
“Great! Follow me,” Charlotte began to walk, “I think I should warn you that my house is big. Like really big. Just so you’re not surprised when you see it.”

Tiana couldn’t hold back her laugh. “Lottie, you’re rambling again.” She gave her friend a look before saying. “I know nothing about parties, but I do know that whatever you pick will be fantastic. Just… go with your gut.”
“Oh, sorry, Tia!” Charlotte said with a bright smile. She then sighed and pouted, “That’s why I’m only down to three, I went with my gut. I don’t know how to narrow it down any further.”

Adam shook his head. “No, it’s not…” He sighed, feeling suddenly very tired. “This is just my face, alright?” Although he had to admit, being called ‘sugar’ was kind of weird.
“But you’re not giving me a look now which means it’s not your face.”

“That sounds perfect actually. But are you sure? I wouldn’t wanna trouble you.”
“Well my house is just around the corner so it wouldn’t be a bother at all if you don’t mind coming over.”
