âWell you wouldnât be the only one. I find the entire concept of technology very odd.â
"Agreed. Even though I know how to work a cellphone I still find it very strange.â
âYeah, I suppose it is,â Flynn replied with a shrug, âYou did? Did you think in a cottage or a log house or something?â Raising an eyebrow as she stumbled over her husbandâs name, Flynn didnât comment except to laugh at her own babbling and excitement, âWell at least Iâm not intruding on your day or anything.â
âUm yes, yes sure,â Faline lied, deciding that perhaps openly telling the stranger she was actually a doe wouldnât be the best icebreaker. Perhaps heâd walk away and call her crazy and sheâd never get to help him. Faline decided she was going to try and be normal. "Youâll let me help you?â she beamed excitedly.

âHello? Hi, yes. I donât know if youâd be able to tell me whereâŚâ Belleâs voice mimicked the nature of a diminuendo, each syllable softening as her dark features studied the city map she held in her hand. âForgive me, Iâm new around here. And French! And I think those two factors, mounted on top of another makes me hopeless in this city. All I ask is that you would be so kind as to point me in the direction of the nearest library.â
Glancing at the map in her hand, Falineâs mind went to her first adventure in the city. Even with a map it was difficult to navigate around here. âA library?â she echoed, smiling warmly, âWhy thereâs one just down the street. I just returned from there,â Faline said, gesturing to the armful of books in her arms. She was determined to understand this new world, and by doing that she was going to search for everything and anything she could. Most of the books were fairytales. This whole princess business was making her curious. âDo you need help getting there?â
Whoever ruled the universe hated him. He was just as unknown to the modern world as anyone else, but for some reason he was fitting in so well, it scared him. He felt like the body he was borrowing was actually really his and he was where he belonged, but the girl⌠She was beautiful and way to bright, almost making him blind by just staring at her hair, but she didnât belong. It was obvious she way too pretty for a city as New York City. âFine. come with me.â He gestured for the girl to follow him inside. It was getting cold, and if her husband was picking up his phone, it was just better to wait inside. âYouâre lucky itâs still in the afternoon. No club activities going on, perhaps the girls are in the back, but you can stay with Billy for a bit. Heâs the bartender.â
Faline was still on edge. This man, although tall and charming still had an aura of danger to his brooding figure. He reminded her of the predators she had to run from back in the forest, yet much like one with its foot caught in a bear trap. He was still stronger and capable of harming her, but at the point in time he wasnât intending to hurt her. At least it didnât seem so. Pressing her lips tightly together, she let out a strangled sigh, âAre you sure?â she asked, wrapping her arms around herself as the phone went to voicemail. Faline pressed the red button on the screen. She wasnât sure how voicemail worked anyways. âI donât know if I should be going anywhere with you. Besides, I know you better than I know Billy. How can I be sure he is trustworthy?â Faline challenged, unable to help her conflicting fight or flight instincts that were forcing her to ask so many questions.
âDonât worry. Riley is a very nice person. I think she loves that Iâm working here.â Lady answered proudly. Her boss had accepted her easily, something that had to do with her being good with dogs, of course the owner didnât know about her being one before, but the compliment was still nice. âYeah isnât it wonderful!â In question, Rileyâs own dog came sprinting towards the duo, woofing in excitement as it asked for attention. Dropping to her knees, Lady started to scratch the dog behind his ears. âYou can go ahead and explain Riley about your shelter.â She said over shoulder, smiling brightly at Faline.
A little overwhelmed with a mix of emotions, Faline nodded. She wanted to pet the excited dog and avoid speaking to anybody besides Lady, but Faline had to be courageous. âHello maâam,â she said politely as she walked over to the counter, âMy name is Faline and one of your employees, Lady, well she told me you could help me figure out where the shelter Iâm supposed to work at is,â she explained, pulling out the card she had shown Lady previous. âDo you um, recognize the address?â she asked as she watched the woman's face. She seemed to know. And soon enough Faline figured out her assumptions were correct. Riley gave her directions and a little map to remember. She even pointed out that Faline could use the phone number below to call the shelter. Turns out it wasnât too far from the one she was currently in, âThank you so much, maâam,â Faline said with a smile before walking over to Lady, âAh, thank you too. I wouldnât be able to figure this all out without you!â
Bambi shook his head, trying to clear away the last of the sadness that came with thinking about his motherâŚabout the hunters whoâd taken her away from him. He smiled softly and shrugged when Faline asked about the plastic. âHumans areâŚodd creaturesâŚbut theyâre not as bad as my dad led me to believe, you know?â His smile grew a little bit. âAnd some of the stuff they have that we can eatâŚitâs fascinating. I had something called pizza the other day and it was likeâŚthe best thing ever. You have to eat some sometime! Bambi held out his hand, proud of himself for making sure the conversation could change smoothly. âLetâs go. It canât be too far away, right?â
"I do know what you mean,â she smiled back, glad to see him smile. That was really all Faline needed to know things were going to be okay. If Bambi was okay, everything else would figure itself out along the way. âNot going to lie, Iâm excited to try everything here. And now that you speak so highly of pizza, I must try it,â Faline beamed, happy to see him so enthusiastic about something. He seemed to be fitting into this new life a lot faster than Faline was. âNo it surely canât,â she agreed, taking his hand with an excited twinkle in her eyes.
â Thank you kindly ! Iâm afraid that Iâm just an inch or two too short for this shelf ; usually, the shelves are within my reach, or I can jump up and reach it alright, but this one is a little bit too tall for me to even do that. â It was always a problem at the grocery store near her apartment â the shelves were always so high up, particularly because the store was so small and cramped. They had no choice but to stack the shelves up high. If it hadnât been for the redhead girl, Snow wouldnât have been able to get the bag of flour at all ! " I do wish that the shelves were a little lower⌠Or that there was a little step stool so that I could reach it by myself. But, thank you so much for getting me the flour, I do appreciate it so. âÂ
"Itâs a shame they donât have step stools available in the least for shorter people to reach! Iâd say itâs rather inconsiderate of them,â Faline reasoned, taking the brunetteâs side. âBut perhaps itâs so smaller children donât get their hands on things and make a mess?â she debated curiously. âEither way, youâre very welcome. It was really no trouble.â
âWhatâs it like? Well, Corona is a kingdom. With a huge castle right in the middle where the king and queen live, where the lost princess would have lived, and the town surrounds it. Around the town is mostly forest. I never really anywhere permanently. Not recently anyway. But it was still a nice-looking town,â Flynn didnât know why he was telling her all of this. He didnât even know her name and he was already telling her about his âhomeâ. Looking down the street she pointed to, he nodded, âThat would be extremely nice of you. Thank you,â Flynn wasnât used to people showing him much kindness. The matron of the orphanage had never shown him any. The Stabbington brother definitely hadnât and probably would be worse if they ever found him again. The guards certainly werenât kind and the had their reasons. The kindest person he had met was actually the bubbly blonde, and she had hit him over the head with a pan and tied him up with her hair, âLead the way,â Flynn finally continued with a smile.
"That sounds incredible. It must be beautiful there,â Faline gasped, âForest? Thatâs wonderful. I live in a forest as well,â she exclaimed. The ginger haired girl couldnât help herself-- she was originally a fawn after all. Nature and forests were what she missed most. Central Park was the next best thing. âAh itâs no big deal. Iâd like to be helpful. Besides I donât really have anywhere to be since Iâm not working today and Bamb-- my um, my husband Hadleyâs at work,â she babbled, âSo Iâm free to spend the day helping you out.â With an excited nod, Faline set down the street towards the tourist center.
âThank you,â Jasmine said softly with a smile that matched her tone. It was nice to hear from a stranger. At least when it was a stranger who wasnât a prince trying to win her hand in marriage. Not that they ever cared whether she was an idiot or not. Jasmineâs eyes widened as she touched the screen and it changed, âYeah,â She replied, âPerhaps the buttons are on the screen?â She suggested.
"Perhaps. How queer,â Faline thought aloud, pressing another thing upon the screen. âI must admit, Iâm horrible with technology,â she pressed her lips tightly with a shrug as she turned to the brunette.
Merida quirked her brow at the ladyâs response to red hair but kept her opinion to herself. âYa, my brothers. Three of âem. Little monsters some times. Surprised they âavnât left a path of destruction yet.â
"Donât be too quick to speak-- perhaps they have? And if so, itâll be easier to find them,â Faline said optimistically, âAny idea where you saw them last?â
