When the message reached Lelio, she was with Tami. The slightly above freezing temperatures of the morgue weren‘t of any concern to her until she heard the knocking of someone banging onto the morgues door.
Annoyed, but having to put up a professional facade, she opened the door. The subordinate that had so rudely banged on her door was one of Dottore’s. He looked distraught as he handed her a scroll.
Lelio asked, slightly letting the annoyance show through her tone
“A message from the Doctor. You haven’t heard what about what transpired in sumeru?”
The subordinates voice was shaking. Was it because of the cold from the morgue or was he scared of her reaction? Probably a bit of both.
With a sigh she rolled out the scroll, Dottore’s messy but weirdly neat handwriting was scribbled across the page. Lelio skimmed over it, her expression growing more and more concerned as she continued to read. By the end of it, she was gripping the paper so hard, the subordinate was afraid it would get ripped into pieces by her claws.
The subordinate still hadn’t left when she suddenly shut the door in his face. The loud sound echoed through the hall and the morgue as she leaned against the door. This wasn‘t real, was it, right? Maybe he was notifying her about a segment he had made without her knowledge? No, that wasn‘t it.
This was real. The paper clearly stated that this was only to be delivered when he was truly dead. How could this even happen in the first place? Who was behind his death?
Was she allowed to cry right now? Probably, yes. Did she want to cry right now? Not at all.
Tami had sat up on the exam table. He slightly tilted her head to the side in a silent question as to why Lelio was sitting on the floor. Lelio didn’t answer her. She didn’t look at her either. Not until Tami approached her, steps slightly shaky as she walked over to her, only as she crouched down next to her and weakly slung an arm around her in a sort of half hug.
“Lelio, don’t cry… Tami doesn’t like it.. why is Lelio sad?”
She mumbled, her limited vocabulary really didn’t help her with expressing her concern about Lelio. Instead of giving her a proper answer, Lelio fully hugged her. She buried her face in Tami’s neck as her tears finally started to spill over.
Lelio’s body felt so warm compared to Tami’s body and Tami wasn‘t complaining. She knew that her creator was distraught. So instead of saying anything else, she just slung another arm around her, holding onto her with all the (not fully charged) strenght she had left. She could feel Lelio shaking against her, the claws of her prosthetic slowly tearing at the plastic like fabric of her overall. Usually someone else would comfort her, right?
Tami had never seen Lelio so sad. When she remembered the word ‘doctor’ falling, it clicked in her brain.
“Where is doctor..? Isn‘t he with Lelio when she’s sad?”
She asked, the question was met with silence. Tami knew the Doctor. Lelio called him all kids of things, Doctor was one of them. Then there were words like ‘darling’, ‘dearest’ or whatever else she called him. Maybe he was on a journey? Why wasn‘t he with her?
Lelio took a few shaking breaths before answering her, her voic was wavering as she spoke.
“The Doctor isn‘t here anymore.. he won’t come back for me.”
Won’t come back? Why not? Did he just leave Lelio?
“He’s dead, Tami. And I can‘t bring him back like I did with you..”
