I've had the idea of Kelly being temporarily removed from Blue Team and assigned to Kilo Five. Partially because Blue team isn't handling John's “death” very well and partially because Naomi sometimes needs Spartan companionship. Because no one understands a Spartan like a Spartan.

I imagine that in some way Kelly becomes a bit obsessive over John. Simply wondering where he is, how he has to be alive and looking for a way home. It hurts Fred and Linda to constantly hear about it and they get snappy with her which only makes her snap back at them.

Naomi on the other hand hasn't had the chance to talk about John and his disappearance with someone who understands on the same level she does. She wasn't as close to him as Kelly was but being able to talk about him is therapeutic to both of them.

Kelly sometimes cries herself to sleep and Naomi just holds her until eventually she too falls asleep. It's a very rare moment of vulnerability, especially for Kelly who hasn't cried over someone in decades.

Eventually Kelly goes back to Blue team and she stops bringing John up as often to them. She becomes more reserved and shrinks into herself as she waits for him to return. She does her best to let her work and missions distract her from her grief.
