As requested by: @young-justice-riddler : here are some headcanons for the young justice versions of the riddler and vandal savage:
How they met: at first riddler was just one of the many criminals working for the light and dus vandal savage. When riddler completed a important mission succesfully he was orderded a meeting with the heads of the light. As he explained how the mission went and what was gained from it, vandal couldn't help but notice riddlers enthouisiasm. There was something endearing about how passionate and proud the riddler was about his job. After that vandal gave riddler more work to do that he had to report to vandal. This way vandel could get a bit closer to him and find more out about him. Riddler was very happy that the boss himself saw riddlers potential and he was happy to continue working for him. He started to look out to the reports more and more. Vandal turned out to be suprisingly nice for a criminal of his size. And perhaps riddler found him quite handsome at it made him feel extra good everytime vandal complemented his work. Both began growing more and more to eachother but sinds they had a work related relationship they found it innapropiate to ask the other out. Luckily queen bee noticed what's up. She found vandal to be a bit boring and stuck up. If he had a partner he might loosen up a little. And besides she always enjoyed a good romance. So she encouraged riddler to ask vandal out. Vandal happily agreed. As they started to be more personal and open to eachother the feelings only grew.
They both like to yap a lot. Vandal about his visions for the world and his long life. And riddler about puzzles and other things that would make him look intellegent. Vandal enjoyes hearing about riddlers interests. And riddler is amazad by all the things vandal has done troughout his life.
Vandal has poetic ways of expressing his love to enigma. Here is something i imagene he could say to him: 'you know, for a long time i only had my sights on my mission to make the human race stronger. I have had many partners whom i did not truly love. Only to numb the pain of my lonelyness. I just became numb to everything, or so i thought. Because after i met you i once again want to love. It is you that reawakened my numb soul. My goal for the future has changed. I still desire to rule the cosmos, but now with you at my side. I want to create a world where we are truly happy and at peace. That is my dream for the both of us.'
Riddler would also explain his love in great detail.
'Vandal, i cannot explain how happy i am that someone important as you actually sees my potential. But not only that, i don't need to keep working for your affection. I can fail and mess up, and you still love me and accept me. You see my strengths and intelligence and at the same time you see the person past that. For the first time i feel truly loved and accepted.
Vandal would prob look for ways to make enigma immortal. Ra's strongly advised against the lazerus pit because of the negative effects it caused. So far vandal is still looking, determined to make enigma stick by his side.
Riddler will sometimes make little puzzles for vandal to solve. Vandal enjoys it everytime.
After their relationship became official. Riddler stays a lot closer to vandal as vandal worries that riddler might get hurt because of his close relationship to him.
The same people who used to bully riddler now became much more polite and respectful to him. Altough no one knew the true reason why they had to be.
Since vandal doesn't like to be recorded for things he's done, he will often let riddler get the credit for his scemes. This helps vandal keep a low profile. And riddler gets a lot attention and respect which he loves.
Ok so these where some headcannons i created for this ship. It was quite fun to think of. If you think about it, vandal and riddler contrast eachother a bit. Vandal prefers to stay more in the shadows and doesn't like it when people record his crimes. Riddler on the other hand wants the attention and respect. He wants you to know it was him who did it. They are however similar in that they are both very ambitious, but for different reasons. And they both like to flex a bit, vandal with his age and experience and riddler with his intellect. This was very fun write altogether. I also changed his name from edward to enigma as this was also requested.
