In honor of Gravity Falls turning 10, I must insist you all read this incredible GF x Over the Garden Wall crossover story, which is one of the most amazing pieces of fic *and* fiction I’ve ever read and which will make you smile and hurt in equal measure, which somehow manages to hold the existential melancholy of OtGW and the zany joy of GF in perfect balance. Here’s a bit of “Child Cleans Room and Has a Meltdown” that I really don’t know will make it into the final update.  Alberto tries—he tries—but he knows he hasn’t been a good kid. Good kids, for one, don’t set boats on fire, or get banned from the café for dancing on jukeboxes. The people he loves all have plenty of reasons to leave him too. And they keep not doing it. And somewhere between the phone calls and the hot meals and Massimo's quiet instruction, he’d started getting a weird suspicion that they wouldn’t. The longer he’s thought about it, the more he’s suspected that no, actually, none of this had been his fault at all—that maybe his dad leaving had had nothing to do with Alberto. Which is a completely different kind of awful to grapple with. Because shouldn’t it have?

Oh I feel that -- I'd been trying to write about Alberto cleaning up the Tower for monthsssss, it was awful. Eventually I just kinda gave up, cannibalized some of what I had for a different fic, and boiled my thoughts down to the singular image of Alberto finding his dad's stuff in "the serenity prayer." So maybe your current form is the problem?

That's a good thought! And very possible. Since it's part of an ongoing fic I've already posted part of (because I love the craft but I crave attention, apparently) I feel like I've kind of locked myself into the form. Unless I want this chapter to be just *batshit* different from all the others, but I don't think I can make it good enough, or come up with a good enough artistic argument, to justify it. Then again, experimenting just to get the ideas out could be fun, and maybe I’ll find a happy medium--something different enough to help get to the heart of the issue but not so different it’s jarring with the rest of the fic.  Workshopping is fun. :)

Also, some of us are just. So small. And write so slowly. (It’s me. I’m some of us.) A few things I’ve been doodling on, slowly but actively, that I really do plan/hope to finish at some point: - Take It Back. This child will clean his room, dammit.  - secret funtimes project with @annie-mantic  - Deep!Luca AU  - Chicken crimes (no I will not elaborate) - The Friends I Do Not Like As Much As You - an exploration of how hard it actually is when you get an unexpected brother/sister, because I love Marcovaldo sibling supremacy but some of y’all don’t have stepsiblings - a completely gratuitous and indulgent look at Alberto’s time alone on the island - the boys aging and being like “oh shit humans kind of suck, actually, what does that mean for us?” - a roadtrip challenge I still owe @candykale - a small handful of ridiculous oneshots of the kids just being wild, joyful disasters - Alberto’s migratory tendencies (shamelessly inspired by/stolen from a @bobtheacorn headcanon, I’m sorry, you said it once and it was so brilliant my brain ran away with it, I am dreaming fanfiction of one throwaway line in one of your stories)  No lack of ideas! Just lack of TIME! And spoons! And sometimes I start stories and I’m like “oh shit this idea is beyond my ability to do it justice!” and then I spook myself out of finishing it!  (Especially now that it’s cold and dark and I just want to hibernate).
