"Oh i’m not just here for her." Ebolin’s voice almost sounded a little different. As if the harshness and the kind tones to her voice were separated, yet speaking at the same time as two voices. Falling apart at the seems would be the most accurate definition to describe her right now. She smiled with malicious intent, but a single tear of sadness fell down her cheek. "I’m to bring all who defy the…"Ebolin gritted her teeth before continuing as if she didn’t want to. "All who defy the wonderful, and powerful ruler."
Another tear ran down her cheek as Ebolin, without thought charged, dagger in each hand. She had no control over herself as she rushed first at the human. The thought being that if this troll was protecting the human, then maybe she could use her as leverage to make the troll’s demise easier. If able to, then she would have gotten around human female, and held the dagger to her throat from behind. Yet with her carelessness, there was the possibility that she left open the opportunity for the human to avoid that happening.
Anna had left her guard down, focusing a poison stare at Dextyn while he and the other Alternian spoke. How dare he just ignore her? Her words could save them and he was full on ignoring her! And, if that wasn’t the case, his actions were even more surprising. He was furious with her. She was the one who deserved to be angry, wasn’t she? If Dextyn had let her leave, this assassin would have just taken Anna out without Dex’s knowing. What was worse to him- thinking that Anna was alive and gone, or that she was dead and never to return? Good going Dextyn.Â
She was about to condemn him with the revelation, but an arm wrapped around her neck and pressed a blade to her throat. The human girl’s grey eyes widened in surprise, but a feral anger filled them with fire as she clawed at the Alternian’s arm, her pocket knife thrown into the dirt. “Let me go!” she screamed for what seemed the thousandth time that night, “I’ll kill every one of you bastards! I’m not dying now!”
For so long, Anna had tried to believe that Dextyn had brought around some change in her, but that moment proved she had only been suppressing her old self. A clear-minded and healthy Anna would have remembered all those self-defense lessons both given and taught, wouldn’t have let her guard down in the first place, but, like always, she gave in to instinct. She was an animal, a cornered rat, but she still knew how to survive.
She stopped struggling against the Alternian’s grasp and relaxed, letting gravity do its job. Anna sank lower, feeling the dagger blade cut her skin, but she closed her eyes and let herself fall. Her tactic: pretend to faint. Then, go for the Alternian while she moved on to kill Dextyn. Yes, that would do nicely. Assuming her feint of a faint worked, that is.
Dextyn knew his relationship with Anna was a blatant breaking of Alternian values, but even as the red-eyed follower before him spoke, he couldn't find it in him to regret it. This was it then. He was a criminal. Wanted by the Condesce herself, probably with a bounty on his head. He was a traitor to his species, so deep in treason he could barely be considered a troll anymore-- at least, not mentally.
And he was ok with that. If betraying the race of war-hungry monsters he was unfortunate enough to be born into made him a felon... so be it. He'd take what was coming to him if it meant doing what he thought was right.
The momentary lapse in concentration on the troll in front of him cost the blueblood, however, and before he could react, she was at Anna's throat. Angry at the blonde though he might've been, he still growled and spun, blade spinning and death in his eyes.
"Don't you hurt a god damn hair on her head or so help me I will bury my blade so deep in you your ancestor will feel it." He spit at the other Alternian, frozen in place lest she take his movement as a threat and slit the girl's throat.
His eyes locked on Anna's as she struggled and he knew that even if they were on rough terms right then, he still cared for her more than anyone else in the world and he'd do his damnedest to keep her safe.
Though maybe that wouldn't be necessary right then if that fainting tactic worked...
